    I went down the pickup change hole years ago 😂 Yes each change was slightly different and a lot of work and parts. Then a great player I know showed me his equaliser pedal and how he could dial in every tone in seconds that took me hours of rewiring to do the same thing. Lesson learned. I don't change pickups unless their broke.

    I dig the tone, it's a nice hybrid of single coil, P90 and PAF, and if they came stock on a strat I'd consider it a great big plus. I also dig how they look. Very cool. But I can't justify the price. As a strat player I'm in between classic and modern, but not obsessive. I know all sorts of tricks to get the tones I need without breaking the bank.

    • @norseman61
      @norseman61 Год назад +1

      I'm with you. There are so many simple things a player can do to change the tone of their guitar that don't involve changing the pickups. Pickup heights, picking location, attack, etc. can often do more to the tone than a pickup change will. And apparently, a lot of people don't seem to realize that those little knob things on the guitar and amp can actually be used to change the tone.

      I agree, I had planned in getting a set of CuNiFe to replace the original ceramics in my '92 Mex Std Strat, until I saw the 350$ price for them. Finally took a look at a bunch videos on these pups to hear how they'd sound.
      Sounds good, BUT, to be honest methink it's not worth 350$ to get that tone. I can get alnicos that sounds similar for ~100$ less from Seymour Duncan, and ye could pay less for other sets from cheaper sources like China for under $50 (but ye generally get what ye pay for if ye go THAT route).

      @angusorvid8840 Год назад

      @@norseman61 I always suggest working the tone knobs and amp settings first. I don't know what it is with modern players, but they seem to think those knobs are just decorative and would rather spend more money on crap they don't need. I'm old school. I once recorded an acoustic in a tiled bathroom because it had the right sound I was looking for in regard to that album, a very low budget demo. It sounded amazing, literally Floyd quality. I love reading about the recording process for my favorite classic rock albums. It's often so simple it's easy to overlook.

I played a lot with Jaguar pickups that have the metal teeth on them. Just curious, why not get a new pick guard and drop in the whole new assembly without scraping the old works? The CuNiFe feel brighter with less low mids, which make the stock pickups sound a little washed out. Feel like the CuNiFe would be great for the John Mayer type of sound, but take a little more effort to dial in with overdrive as they are very bright and poky. One suggestion to your videos: since humans have a "listening buffer" of only a few seconds, they tend to forget what things sounded like, so it would actually be best to cut the video in such a way as to have the comparison for each pickup individually right after the other. I know, this is even more work in the cut stage, but hey, I'm sure it'd be worth it. ;)

But I still want the around 6.6k pickups in the other positions. Wait, position that is as I kinda Tele'd that guitar by removing the middle pickup & using a three way switch. Cunife huh? Question, who's hearing a 60 cycle hum over bass & drums?

    The cobalts sound great more compression on neck but position 2 was real chime, and a bridge pickup you could actually use its quite tamer. It’s a new tone to have for sure. But, Im not sure its worth it unless you just dig the tone. I personally dig ceramics. Thats a good vintage tone for a great price. I just buy a good American that sounds and plays good and leave it stock. I don’t upgrade much anymore. But its a new tone we have available and its hard to be mad about that eh?

    I don’t get why you unsoldered the original pickups first. If you are replacing the pickups AND the tone stack wiring, why not just unsolder the bridge and cavity ground leads and then remove the original assembly in one piece? That way you just need to reattach the ground leads if you ever decide to switch it back to factory original.

    CV 50 has Surfari Tone riders, 60 is equiped with Pure Vintages Tonerders but Fender put his name on them, a case of marketing trick, and in my humble opinion they are so good, that Cunife seems to be completely MUDDY , that probably good for Metal, but what is realy necesary on Clasic Vibes, is to upgrade the hardware, and keep the Toneriders, alnico 3 in CV 50 and alnico5 in CV 60. greetings from Chile

    I have a 1976 i think tele custom that I inherited, thing is microphonic (you can hear the STRAP movement), tiny frets, the neck can move in its socket if the screws are not super tightened (needs a side-shim).

      That's the problem with CBS era fenders in a nutshell...they're not all crap, but some left the factory that never should have, and will need serious work to make them proper workhorses...at least you didn't shell out thousands just to find out it was a lemon

    • @Healcraft
      @Healcraft Год назад

      @@jasondorsey7110 it is still playable just not satisfying, where I live there aren't many luthiers if any, if I could find a decent one I would have it worked on though. We have a Long & McQuade but they don't even do most work besides basic setups, they would ship it out and I don't want to trust that, since it still has sentimental value (and real value even if its not a fine specimen).

    Thoughts? Well quite frankly, this just shows that the pickups on a CV are just fine and dandy stock. And that Cunife only truly comes into its own when used in WRHBs. Couldn't hear any major sound difference on this video. I have the Cunife WRHBs on a Fender Japan Jazzmaster and they sound really good - but what they do is give a more single coil type sound with a humbucker, just with less hum. On a single coil type pickup, this (to me at least) seems like a pointless exercise.

  • @valueofnothing2487
    @valueofnothing2487 Год назад

    So the neck is 9.5k and the inductance is 3 H? That's quite a bit more than a vintage single coil which could be 5.5k and 2H.
    I think the point of these was to put them in humbuckers so that you wouldn't need a bar magnet.

    Hey Landon, I’m trying to find an Obsidian wire harness for a '69 Tele thinline by Harley Benton. Can't seem to get anywhere at their website. Do you know if there is such an animal for a '69 Thinline? Thanks. The guy from London Ontario.

    I did like the new pickups.. but at the end.. what is worth the price? over the last 25 years.. i always been "MEH" after switching pickups almost to a point where it is a lost of money. my new thing these days.. try the guitar. you like the tone.. keep it intact. unless it is really an undertone guitar ( rare these days ). and last.. have you try the new FSR Strat in British racing green? it has a set a SD quarter pound and a trembucker.

    Difficult for me to tell what changed the sound...the pickups ore the pots. 🤷🏻 there is a tone change yes and they sound good..but for that price i like the stock pickups more. If i change my pickups in my CV strat i would go with fat 50s, fat 60s ore an SD ssl-1. That are the tones i prefer more. 😉
