    Gotta say, that Gigant lore was something I didn't expect to find - really goes to show just how much story lays behind even some of the most "forgettable" mobs in FFXIV. Thanks for the lesson, Scribe!

      Just starting this video and I think I remember some of the lore from it and those giants 300 years ago.

    What I always liked about Copperbell was that Papashan, who gives you the initial quest, doesnt hold back when it comes to put shame where it belongs: to his own ancesters. You enter the mines, knowing full well why these creatures are upset and why they have to be dealt with. Sure, the msq doesnt allow us to not do it, but on the other hand, as you already said, we dont really have a choice either: its either stopping them, or watching countless innocents getting butchered. Its one of those unexpected dark moments in FF14, that hit you in the gut...

    I remember when I first did this quest. It was then that I realized that this game was a lot darker than I was led to believe. ARR actually deals with a lot of things like this but many people miss the details because you e got to both READ AND UNDERSTAND both what’s being said and what’s being implied.

      @mikoto7693 2 года назад +7

      I remember that too. I knew the basics of Copperbell mines of giants of the mines. But I also remember part of the main quest where the WoL is tracking Ascians as men in black robes and red masks and you end up in Little Ala’Migho chasing down youths wanting to summon Rhalgyr.
      And one of the young woman you meet at one point and yeah… darker game than it seemed. Including that beggar woman you saved in Ul’dah from that male merchant.

    Jeez, that Giant lore is even more tragic than I already thought. :(
    Also, when I first saw the name Hecatoncheries, I thought back to how the ancient greek monsters of the same name were described by Overly Sarcastic Productions and said out loud "B-bro, I'm level 16, I am in no way ready to fight 50-headed-50-handed rock chuckin' giants :o ".
    So I was relieved to see that these Hecatoncheries are lacking in the heads and hands of their mythic bretheren.

  • @Gefnir

    Beast tribes usually summon a primal so help with their oppression problems. Hecatoncheires on the other hand be like “nah bruh, we gots hammers, worms and brawn”.
    In that regard they’re suppose they could be seen as an atheist race?

    • @SynodicScribe
      @SynodicScribe  2 года назад +6

      Endwalker proved that even being atheist doesn't prevent primal summoning. The belief in not believing in something still fulfills the "faith" requirement for primal summoning.

    • @RhapsodicSongbird
      @RhapsodicSongbird 2 года назад

      I certainly could see the Hecatonchieres in this situation wanting to solve their matters by their own hands rather than some god, but, you could also chalk up their lack of Summoning to their brainwashing before and lack of aetheric crystals after, since the mines itself had been stripped dry for centuries.

    I just wanted to share -- I found your channel a few days ago and I really enjoy listening to you. I love the way you present, you're easy on the ears, I learn a lot, and you help calm my brain to sleep. I've been listening in the morning when I wake up too. Thanks for doing what you do and please keep at it. I really enjoy your content.

    The Hecatoncheires come from ancient Greek myth as sons of the primal beings Gaia and Uranos, the earth and sky gods. The name comes from "hundred hands" and these monsters had 100 hands and 100 heads. They were released by Zeus to defeat Cronus and actually ended up becoming servants to Hepstatus in his forge, helping to forge Zeus's lightning bolts.

    Looking back, I kind of miss when dungeons had a sort of lore/plot reason for existing. And not just like appearing for the sake of gameplay, not that I have a problem with FFXIV's dungeons is just that it felt like I was exploring the world of Eorzea through dungeons in ARR.

    Another good (yet hard) lesson learned with Vodka in hand, Teach! Looking forward for more of these as always. It does help in appreciating how much work is done lore-wise for the ARR dungeons. Now I can't wait for the Heavensward ones XD

    Hecatoncheires have 50 heads so I can only assume Squeenix named them this to annoy me and force me to struggle with their pronounciation as they are just giants in this game with one head and certainly not Hecatoncheires.
