  • Just a quick test of a RM Italy KL 503.
    it states not to put over 5 watts dead key.
    the cb I'm using to test is a President Washington. it's dead key is 4 watts and swings to 12.
    powering it 14 volts. I was impressed with this one. I know in the video I call the 400 watt maker on the 1 k scale 300 wats. my bad anyway if you have any questions please leave below and if you like the video I will make more cb related ones.

    It’s a nice amp!! You want to lower that am carrier. 4w is a lot. You want a 1:4 ratio. You are barely getting any swing on 5/6 setting. It’s ok for SSB but on AM…yikes. I would say 2-2.5w carrier for AM. Then she would really have a ton of top end!! I have the 203. DK at 30w and swings to 190w. Try it!
    Anyways just my findings. People talk smack of RM’s but treat them nice and they will talk!!! 73!!

    I run a Kl503 🏧 with the European version of the Anytone 6666 2w Fm and 4-10w Ssb and it works great, 60w is plenty & 350+w on Ssb, i also have the Kl505v which is HF multiband, that is a 250w max amp but works.
    Currently looking at a Kl805+ & 25v psu for around £800, or an Acom 1000a £1,000.
    Great video & a new Sub, look forward to the next one. 407 Mcr Uk 👋

    The silver 503 I received was crap. It oscillated from new, and when I transmitted for a short time, it would begin to distort. This I believe was due to the driving mosfet, one driving eight. It doesn't even make sense when you break it down from a KL203.
    So I bypassed the driver, replaced the eight remaining mosfets with IRF520s, and corrected the input impedance. I also installed multi-turn pots to set the bias voltage to a certain figure and dialed the fets up. I then upped the supply voltage to around 20V (bit under). With 12W pep drive, the unit sings at 300-350 watts, doesn't even get warm with a single, small fan.

      First check the kpo without amp,think you can adjust the output power to a few watts(4 to5) only then use it to drive the amp...your radio can do 40 to 50 watts,driving an amp that hard it s going to kill it

Most people give me the no more the 2 Watts ore it will blow up but it's still running just fine. Side note I run my power supply at 14.8 volts and it will draw 22 ish amps. Your radio is on AM yet the amp is on SSB with no relay chatter ?

    • @frankdiminnie
      @frankdiminnie  2 года назад +1

      Nope when the amp was on ssb the cb was as well. When I took off ssb I put cb on AM you can see that I forget to go back to AM in the video and have to put the cb back to AM. And even if I did not have cb on ssb it's just a relay for the amp. The cb dose not necessarily have to be on SSB for the amp to trigger SSB. Does that make sense? Hope this helps.

      503hd is a high drive 30/35watt max amp, and depending on what voltage it is run at depends on what output it will give, 13.8v is what I use and 280w Fm 320w Ssb was what it put out.
      I thought it would be good with my 6666, it wasn't, but the Kl503 I would highly recommend, and I think the Kl203/203p is a great little amp too 😉
