People talk a lot of smack about these mosfet amps. From my experience they perform just fine as long as you don't overdrive them and your dead key is set low. They are good little amps, people just burn them up because they run them incorrectly. I'm currently running a 2x8 Superior mosfet amp with ten Palomar Erf-9530's. I have no problem seeing 1kw. I'm driving it with 6 watts carrier and 45 swing.
I have a couple videos on the KL703, great amp like the 503. Awesome DC and RF filtering and definitely more linear and cleaner than the actual home brew amp builds, only thing is there is no high SWR protection circuit. Great video Rooster, 73.

This is a P to P linear no more than 35 watts P to P into it. Per KL seller to me . I have 2 of them Not 35 Watts it will kill linear only 35 P-P watts
So i have to set my Crt variable radio max to ? how much watts? In this video he uses 2 watts. Mine does 2,5 watt lowest . On internet the specs state that you can put in max 35 watt . Which I dont want : use the top input to spare it. The radios output turn switch makes the wattage go out slow at first. But halfway it jumps real quick to the 38+ watt output. So what is a save output wattage to set my radio at please? Sorry for my bad english grammar btw.

if you drive it with the same output on ssb it will do the same amount of power. 35 watts of peak power is 35 watts of peak power regardless of AM or SSB. Unless your radio does more on ssb than am the output will be the exact same

Good thing there's no warranty on any of these amplifiers realistically anyways 😂😂😂. Ultimately a manufacturer can decide not to warranty for something for any reason they want.
My Uniden Washington is pretty much un-molested, so doing about 20 watts. Is this gonna be enough to get 300+ watts out of this 503HD? Or would I be better off going with a 503P?
@@Rooster_Radio I have an RCI Ranger RG-99 that I wanted to use but I think it would be too much for the amp and I don't want to open the radio and mess with the internals to turn the power down. So I bought a President McKinley to use instead. Not sure if I want to keep the RG or try and sell it.
Hi Rooster, I have a Stryker 955HP with the KL503HD. On the 955, I have the PWR set at 12 o'clock. I understand that it still has the potential to PEP over 35 watts anywhere the PWR dial is set. Is this a good spot to put the PWR without damaging the amp? Thanks!

I have the same cb as you with the K30 magnet mount. Did you find an amp that works good, and did you have to do anything to the radio to not over drive the amp? Not sure what the dead key is on these.

Getting back into the hobby after 30 years. Have DX 959, power turned down so I have 1 1/2 watt dead key on low power. Peaks at about 7 watts on am, about 25 watts peak ssb. Is the KL503HD designed for more powerful radios? What mods would be required on my 959 to run this? Or would I be better off going with a KL 503? Thanks in advance!
I have a question for you about running SSB mode. When I key up, the TX light does not light until I talk, and then it turns on. Is this normal? Also, when I am done talking, the received signal is low, and then a second later, it is fine. Is that normal as well? Only on SSB. Thank you
Do amps mess up a semi truck ecu? I was told it will fry it by some tech out here in Nevada and another tech from California said no it shouldn’t as long as i got good coax and low swrs and another tech said well it can 🤨…. So im here asking you now what do you think is it safe to run an amp in a semi truck I took a huge interest in this amp over my Midnight Special 250 toó bulky this 503 HD looks slim enough to put over my cobra 29.
So that’s peak power not average power when it comes to the Recommended drive ? So you can’t have an average power of 30 watts and drive it into the amp

It would work on FM and SSB, you will need to adjust the RF output, but you should know that already. What is a qualified RADIO AMATEUR doing looking at lowly CB radio amp videos lol? @@brianhenry8464 well... A galaxy 93t is a turbo radio with a built in amplifier. It's a wonder you have an amplifier at all. The 93t well exceeds the 35 watt PEP recommended in the manual and that I have also stated countless times in these videos

@@ChristiannTyler sometimes 3ft jumpers will cause oscillation issues, making relays stick in the amp, keeping the amp keyed etc. Not always, but sometimes.
i woud like to see you do a review useing ssb as what you have done is only halfe the job as a lot of people use ssb for DX so why did you only do halfe the job not good at all and not satisfied with the review and i am sure RM would not be satisfied either

nothing wrong with mosfet amps as long as you have all your ducks in order, good antenna, good SWR, good coax, and a clean output radio

I like that amp!! I guess my McKinley DK at 4w swinging to 12w should drive that amp. My 203 does 150w with a 1.5w DK. Awesome amps!!
12 watts wont drive it to full potential. You'd be better off with a standard 503 or 503p. Even those models recommend 25 watts peak

I have the regular 503 (gold casing) and the instructions say input power is 1-6 watts.
1-6 watts AM carrier, not peak power, even a stock cb will produce over 6 watts peak power

Deadkey needs to be 3 watts or less and with a stock radio you aren't going to see max output.

You probably aren't going to get maximum performance with any stock radio with this amp, but something like a McKinley would be ok
