  • A customer asked me to check out a few amps that may not be working right, especially high SWR. I did tests on a dummy load as well as on air with a dipole.
I did a power test, checked the SWR and visually inspected all three amps.

Sorry but I've just sent a message to you, but I was reading one of your answers to someone. And it didn't come through on the front page, so if you can look at the last question you answer to someone it's there, thanks ALAN. 👍

I can see a wrong thing on the two kl203. Well, i can hear it. Those fan are as noisy as they are useless. Slowing them down would bring some comfort to the ear.

@@duglia they're extra loud because I have my camera right next to them. But they do work and probably wouldn't be as annoying under a dash or in a cubby hole in a vehicle like they're meant to be.

They audio signature on scope is not good . They tend to have extended negative muchnlike the stryker radios do. I'm not stryker hater as other than increased imd and 1 ch bleed over the human ear won't hear those artifacts . That said throw and of the amps out today using hg 2879 (C) on spectrum analyzer and will appreciate signals at partial harmonics . Ie, 7,13, and even 18mhz...alot of power we see w those pills not on our channel.or even band

@eastcoastmecca7109 I think I know what you're trying to say but it's not true. Strykers are great radios. The only time you see them or any other radio have distorted wave forms is when somebody messes with them. An amp will only amplify what you put into it. With my Grant XL that is not modified, all three of these amps had perfect waveforms and no "partial harmonics", IMD. Technically, these are not supposed to be used on 11 meter. Just like the Stryker radios, they're 10 meter radios converted over to 11 meter. I'll make another video showing this.

Thanks for letting me understand it more, because it's been throwing me off for bloody years now, so many people saying one thing and someone else saying another. So for me I understand more from your video so far than all the years I've been on radio. I was going to buy one of those baoije amplifier front bangood order it and then started to watch RUclips about people's opinions on them, and I know that you only want to put at least only 4 watts into them . Now people are saying that RM are MUCH better because you can put more watts into the amplifier. I saying this because I Got a CRT 6900 which all ready has power in it, so it becomes dangerous already, I think that the lowest it goes out of the rig is 4,5 watts. So what I'm trying to say I won't to but a decent amplifier on so I'm not using my rig so much for power, they get hot. Sorry for the book, and thanks for all your work love watching everything you do for people on rigs, ALAN FROM ENGLAND 💯👍

Thanks for the kind words. Rule of thumb for low drive amps is that a 4 watt carrier is probably the max you want to drive it with. RM Italy states that you can have up to 10 watts. While that may be the case, it doesn't mean you'll sound good. You'll find some low drive amps only want 2 watts to work good. It does vary. But 4 watts is a safe maximum. Good thing is, I think your radio has a rf power potentiometer. Set it low with a wattmeter and try to get a radio check as you experiment with power levels. I think you will like the follow up video I did with these amps. 73s

@pulsarcb where I was going was these radios are not using fets for RF, most are broadbanded power and or just simple switchers. I know they're were few early bearcat that had those rd1614hf in them . Those are rf fets .
