Hey just great channel man. I bought the Samdo speedometer. I also bought a pin connector kit. You said you didn’t have to splice the original cluster harness but did you cut or splice the samdo wires?
What we need now is a way to hide the wires maybe cover the harnesses. I've gave it some thought. Also I think it'd be cool to install the very bottom piece of the fairing, the one that covers the oil pan and is usually gray. Problem is it bolts to the side fairings. I also think I will paint my crank case cover. Going for all black look with a couple accentuations.
All black looks are definitely very nice for Streetfighters! 👌🏻 I’ve thought about the wire situation and the factory length is really long, not sure how or where to hide em. The bottom fairing idea would be great, You’d almost have to make a mock up the fairings being there to give you the mount points, it would definitely be a diy job. I’m going to take a look at mine and see how the mount points look.
Justin, I ordered this speedo and hooked it up this weekend. I decided to order the Samdo male and female connector kit and cut the original harness and wire everything to the speedo. I have everything hooked up according to your diagram (and crossreferenced it with the Kat wiring diagram). Everything seems to be working right - except I have no speed read out? the 3 pin connector seems a bit of a problem - because you say orange and red or pink. which one is the positive and which one is the sensor? I think this is why I'm not getting a ready out. You have any suggestions? I also don't have that style of headlight to hide the extra wires - hace any suggestions for that?
Good job buddy. Lots of people can't do that kind of stuff. You kinda have to be forced to deal with it to even consider. I'd be lost if I hadn't been there myself on a different bike.
Hey man great work really appreciate all the tutorials , i have a 2001 katana 750 and just did the samdo speedo that u used, everything is working great but the speed sensor, have the power signal out to pink, and power to orange/red and wont register speed
Hey Justin, you mentioned using 16-18 ga male pins to connect the samdo speedometer to stock harness but your pins were too thick.. Do you know which pins would fit perfectly ? Thanks
They were too thick, so I cut them down very slightly. I’m pretty sure Suzuki and most bikes use their own size of pins so finding exact sizes was difficult.
Hey man, i'm almost finished connectingg the samdo to my katana 04 and thanks to you and your guide, it was pretty easy !! I am at the speed sensor part of the installation and I was wondering if you had speed readings on the samdo prior to programming the frequency with tire circonference ? Thanks again!
The speed tuning took some trial and error. The calculations they provided didn’t seem accurate. I’d recommend doing the calculations and then use either your phone or a gps to test. Best of luck!
So I have an 03 katana and a samdo unit coming in the mail today. How did you go about mounting it though? Building a streetfighter out of it but have no clue how I’m going to be mounting it.
Nice!! I did it the diy way and bought slotted aluminum strip and cut it down to the length I wanted. Luckily the Samdo unit had bolt spots on the back of it. Using the metal strips I attached it on to the bolt that holds the bars in place and the back of the speedo. It took bending and cutting to get it to fit and be the right angle, and black paint to make it blend in better. But it works and holds strong. $10 for bolts, paint, and the metal. Similar to the bar I got: www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-3-8-in-x-36-in-Zinc-Steel-Punched-Flat-Bar-with-1-16-in-Thick-802037/204225755 Bolt number 10 in this diagram is the one I mounted to, it was long enough to mount the strip metal in between the bottom of the bar and nut number 9. www.bikebandit.com/oem-parts/2000-suzuki-katana-600-gsx600f-handlebar/o/m147750sch238372
Justin's Garage see I run an exhuast shop so metal fab isn’t something I’m entirely new too, but it is new for a motorcycle let alone a mount and not an exhuast. I though about using that metal stripping because it has holes already and the tach has them as well, I just didn’t know exactly where I could easily mount it to the bike that wasn’t in the way of bar movement and that wouldn’t require messing with the bike itself too much. Couldn’t figure anything out so thought I’d ask 😅
Oh good!! I had no metal work experience, but know my way around the Katana. I had to work in reverse. I hope my mounting location helped, and you should be good the rest of the way with your skills and tools at hand. Good luck! If you do Instagram give me a follow and let me know how it goes.
I just want to make sure im tracking, you put those connectors onto the samdo wires and plugged them directly into the plug in on your factory harness?
If you have Instagram message me on there and I can send you some pictures. What I did was use the bolts that mount the handlebars to the fork hub to hold slotted aluminum strips that I cut and bent to shape. It was very cheap and was very easy to bolt directly to the handlebars
I plugged them into the stock speedometer harness. Each function of the stock speedometer has a cable that can be spliced into to make the new one work.
Have you figured out the temperature reading ,is there a setting in the samdu to change it cause mine lights up overheating at 100dg and my bike is not overheating so idk
I disabled that and the oil light. I found it too finicky to bother with. If you truly are worried about overheating I’d look at either another small display just for temp or a simple light than lights up at a certain temp. Both are fairly cheap and easy to use off of eBay.
If you have Instagram I can send you a picture of the manual. It gives you the conversion for the wheel speed. What bike is it? If it is a Katana or similar I set my setting to around 115.
Hi this video is brilliant ive done everything but i have a different speedo everything works apart from neutral light i have a green and a black wire left on speedo but no idea where they go i feel ive tried every one in the cluster
Is there a blue and black, or black and blue connector on your bike’s harness? That should be your neutral light. Have you tried reversing polarity by alternating the green and black wire from the aftermarket speedometer? It might not be getting grounded. Try and find a known ground wire and go from there.
@@JustinsGarage sorted it now mate just the spee im trying to get now but not wanting to use magnets not sure whether to put the wires off speedo to pink and orange wire and then the one green left to neutral
The manual for my bike had the wires for positive and negative of the rpm gauge labeled and I was able to tap in to them. If your bike has a cable driven or a physical tachometer and no digital wires you can wrap the new speedometers cable around the coil packs. Good luck!
My website has the Samdo programming guide pdf on it. Link in description It’s a combination of a mathematical equation for the speed and trial and error. It also gives you the codes for different cylinder counts and rpm voltages.
Hi ive just set mine up works perfectly im now onto the speedo part im wanting to connect to actual speedo sensor wires on tbe bikes cluster do i put both positive speed sensor and and the other wire off speed to one wire the orange and pink and then green to random earth on the bike ?
So I've got this speedo for dirt bike. It has a regulator rectifier and a battery but I still cant get my RPMS to work I had it hooked up to the green coil wire but doesnt do anything unless I slide the speedos RPM wire up and down on the coils wire. So my question is how do I book up the RPM wire? What did I do wrpng?
Did your bike have a rpm gauge to start with? If so was it electric or was it cable driven from the engine to the old speedo? Getting RPMs from the coils is tricky, it really comes down to trial and error. I’ve heard of people wrapping the bare wire around the coils or the coil wire and getting a steady signal from that.
@@JustinsGarage I figured it out. Thanks though. The problem was that the ground wire coming off of the coil where the wire from the speedo plugs into wasnt a good ground. I ran a ground from the coil to my fuse box, which is a good ground, and instantly my RPMS we are working. I added all the wiring minus the rectifier 1and gear position sensors. But now everything works minus the temp gauge. There was no wire on my speedo for that even though though you can see there are lights for it when you first turn the key on. I grounded my fuel level wire so it stops flashing as I dont have a gauge, but theres no wire for the temp. Ahh but the guage is electric. It never had any kind of gauge before. I added the same gauge you have I just have to hook up the three wires and magnets for the speedometer be and all is good.
Find your bikes manual and you will need to splice into the stock speed sensor wires, typically a 2 or 3 wire system and your rpm wire which is typically pulse and ground.
Sadly forced to use the magnets. I have seen a analog to digital cable, but it requires a lot of diy. Google analog to digital speed cable and it should show some results. Good luck!
It isn’t bad. Depending on the bike it is almost plug and play, if it is a Katana 600 there is a link to my website and I have a guide on what wires go where. Just make sure you have your specific bike’s wiring diagram and patience.
Is there any chance you could tell me where the nuetral light is on normal stoxck cluster please ive a black and a green wire left on my speedo but wherever i seem to put them dosent work the neutral light but original speedo it comes on straight away thanks in adance
I wired directly into the stock speed sensor. I set the speed setting to around 115 in the settings menu to get it accurate to tire rpms. The black and white cable on the Samdo’s harness should be the signal wire and goes to the Katana’s pink cable. and if I remember correctly the other two are positive and negative. It was trial and error when I did it. If the pink katana cable doesn’t get you the signal try the orange and red cable.
@@JustinsGarage ok because no matter how many times I switch the pink and the o/r around doesnt seem to do anything. But I also bought a new speed sensor hoping that was it still nothing yet but I'll try in the settings.
I’d try around the 100 mark Initially. These magnet based Suzuki sensors are interesting, i did some research and the pink wire is indeed the signal out, and orange/red is power.
