The air filter thing almost messed my run up because I had saved it right before I noticed. If this happens to you get out of your seat and put on your suit and start driving. I'm sure it's a glitch but when you have your suit on the oxygen in your cab begins to fill up again no matter your filter health. Saved my run.
@@AceVentura-px3pt it’s not a glitch, you’re not using any oxygen with the suit on, so even severely damaged filters are still giving an output rate and you aren’t taking any input away……unless it refills without any filters at all installed, because yea that would seem off
A few things that have transformed the experience for me after having a hard time starting out. 1. Realizing you don't actually have to back trailers in to deliver. 2. In difficulty, turn maintenance DOWN. It means I can spend more time driving than fixing problems. (You're right - I had to restart my profile 👎) 3. To prevent gravity messing up your stuff, change the battery while docked in a station. It keeps the power on so gravity doesn't cut out while doing maintenance.
To be fair u dont have to back up the trailers when ur dropping off a load. You can pull forward to drop them off. I learned that the hard way just like u did in the first part of the video when u were trying to back up into that purple zone in cloverfield gasworks
Hell ya. I got stuck in a crap deathball loop. Started getting low on supplies and power. Was running freight took hull damage needed to jump out and repair and while I was repairing another truck rear ended me destroyed my cargo had to do more repairs. Delivered the freight but got $0 ran out of gravity followed by oxygen died in the middle of another run and not only had to pay for rescue but also an abandoned cargo. Next thing you know I am $31k in the negative.
I am playing on recommended and a few things iv learned is 1 missions are going to be all over the place so you should always be picking cargo that's going your way 2 dont be afraid to take the dangerous way just drive slower and lastly, trading is important almost just as important as the actual hauling. I've recently unlock the sensor and can find free batteries and air filters, so rushing upgrades from the convoy missions will help massively as they open the map
My mom and stepdad did team long haul driving. Most important thing is that you are either making money or paying money. If you’re pulling a load, you’re making money. If you’re “bob tailing” with no trailer, you’re paying money. Always try to have a load going with you. Also, turn off unnecessary systems to save batteries. Lights are a big drain. If you have to cut “off-road” then go around 80 and you won’t have breaches and only minor damage. I’m playing recommended and so far it’s been not as bad as I kept hearing.
I haven't had the slightest bit of trouble with the game, though I picked it up after a big update (apparently) that made the batteries last longer and some other little QoL stuff. Still seems like people just aren't very good at the game and complain about it rather then start a new game with difficulty turned down.
I actually like the frustrations to a point- they really remind you of what a ridiculous situation you’re in, driving a real truck in space. Seems like part of the character of the game. Having said that I started a new game when I found out you could turn the maintenance down in custom mode. Now it’s a perfect game!
i wish they would lock certain achievements behind the difficulty modes, simply because i been enjoying this game a lot and im playing on the recommended settings and im on xbox but the ammount of DIamond achievements im getting is insane, im not even sure 1% of the people playing this game have even gotten the last 10 achievements i have since the game came out it was always showing a ridiculous low number like 0.40% or 0.70% of people unlocked this which is absolutely insane, and that's because im actually really really really excited how this game plays how this game handles how this game is "frustrating" i find it to be part of the charm and in many ways to me is near a perfect game, dodging debris, and finding salvage and transporting cargo while admiring the AMAZING graphics and the soundtrack is again perfect. The fact that some1 with the same drive as me can go into custom difficulty set everything to a very very easy mode and get the same achievements i have with me being on the super harsh end of the difficulty curve, it kinda annoys me to a level that i can no longer say that i did that really hard thing, while theres some people doing it extra easy and the achievement isnt tied to a specific difficulty. Its kinda like going into PC downloading a bunch of mods playing the game and getting the same achievements, to a certain degree it kinda destroys the sense of accomplishment and in these types of games sense of accomplishment is kind of what the main user enjoys to experience that for the first time and wanting to keep going to achieve the higher levels of your mods in your truck being able to transport cargo across the colonies at 210mph and having your fuel last for 10 jumps in a single go while delivering 2 trailers connected back to back simultaneusly is something of an achievement that is just made that much easier if you would just get on custom difficulty and just set everything to easy
If you had asked me what I thought when I was 6 hours in and had lost my run due too crippling debt... I'd agree with all the negatives. However on my second run I found a new appreciation for the recommended difficulty, I felt great about overcoming the challenge, and it actually gave me a glimpse into actual trucking. When your on the road you need to always be making money or you'll go into debt fast. One problem I have with first impressions is that they are almost always deceiving. I personally think that instead of a change of difficulty there should be a more in depth tutorial to certain aspect such as the air filter which don't need to be replaced that often until later whenever you've established yourself.
Agree with like everything you said. I am disappointed about the lack of long highways big time. I am now playing on a custom game mode. Mostly just making stuff cheaper. Made it a lot more fun, and I am about to finish all of the Side Jobs tomorrow, and then I’ll just be truckin and pimpin my truck
After a couple hours playtime you get into the groove of upkeep and how to keep your truck going. It gets easier, it just takes some patience and planning ahead a bit
The one thing I dislike about this game is the powercells. I just want to drive/pilot stuff from A to B, like I can in ETS2, but I find that I'm constantly having to stop to replace power cells, and I think it's kinda of annoying. I think the powercells should auto recharge ever time you're parked at a station.
Unless you're playing hardcore mode, no it's not too frustrating. It's just got a decently steep learning curve. Everyone complains about batteries and filters but fail to realize this, the game time spent without a working scanner is a small portion of the total game especially if you're playing it as an open world game. The moment you get the scanner this all becomes trivial and you'll be throwing batteries and filters away due to weight limits.
I am sure I am as old or older then you and I love the XBOX controller on PC which is how I play most games. It takes time, but I have mastered the use pretty quickly. I do appreciate your commentary, well thought out and articulate, but I personally think that some of what you are referring to is what most survival games have. They all start really slow and difficult. Once you learn, then the more challenging modes are not that bad. IMHO, really well executed and fun game. I have been playing for about 14 hours now and loving it. This is a unique twist on space and driving games to me. I really enjoy playing it, especially the interactions with the story players. It does have a bit of a learning curve and it might frustrate some, but if you relax and take it all in I think you will have fun. There are some QOL things that I think the devs need to work on (UCC monitoring capability, Straps to hold boxes down, put shop icons on screen always, make a shop screen on the console instead of having to get up, etc.) , but I am sure they will. The graphics are really well done and the physics to driving the Star Truck in space are pretty darn awesome, albeit frustrating if you try to be a hot rod like me. Then again, that would be true in real life too ;) Have fun fellow Star Truckers and keep on truckin'!
I understand where your going from on the long distances. But I just want to say on that, as someone that has put a lot of hours in Elite Dangerous be careful what you wish for. It might be fun 1 or 2 times but I have done the 22000 ls journey that takes 40 minutes to an hour to compete the vastness of space is boring. It works in ats or ets2 because you have scenery. In space it is nothingness.
The recommended setting is just too hard for a casual gamer, so many things can end your run instantly, and it really ruins an otherwise great potential game.
Alot of your complaints are a you issue 😊 not to b3me a butt but it is controls are a skill idsue you dont have to back in every space ive seen you pull thru and you level quickly till lvl 20 it slows down upgrade your truk also it will help dont give up your 2 hours in you haven't scratched the surface im 15 hrs in on my first play through and absolutely love it
I couldn't even do some of the missions later on, because I kept getting caught in a loop of do some jobs, have maybe 6k and then spend it all on batteries and filters. Every time I thought I was okay, something would always happen to ruin the flow no matter how well I managed. Guess I have to start a new game and turn down the maintenance like someone else has mentioned.
This isnt a Space Trucking chill sim game, its a survival game in a truck. I am sitting at 1h 40 mins and chewing whether to refund or not. Its a good game, but its too demanding on having to continuously change batteries etc, I feel like I am driving a Tin foil rig.
There's a custom mode my guy.. want a chill experience?, just run with the settings lowered a little bit.. how the game treats you is completely up to what experience you choose..
@@hescamping5982I completely agree. If you was survival mode use the default settings. If you want a space trucker sim then use custom mode and turn the survival settings down.
play it with custom settings otherwise it really gets frustrating. later in the game you will brick the truck all the time and repair and maintenance will be a bit higher than in the beginning. default mode is brutal. and i personally dont see a chance to finish the game on the standard difficulty.
Dude I was slapped in the face by the difficulty a lot of my components got damaged from the gravity going out. Was not aware they had health. Next time I had a domino effect of issues involving the gravity, air, and core power. I had pretty much went from a space trucker to a NASA engineer mixing around components trying not to die from running out of air. 😂😂
I think the problem is that release version of the game is bugged. The payouts are supposed to be higher from the perks you take, but they're not. Also, some of the upgrades don't seem to work, like the fuel efficiency one. So the reason people are struggle on the recommended settings is because it's completely borked right now.
yup there are bugs cropping up. lots of us can't progress because Dusty Bear isn't giving us the later missions. I've unlocked the scanner and got the Enigma zone unlocked (have the achievement) but the zone is still locked somehow v0v
One thing that has been infuriating me, and idk if it's a bug or what, but I have been getting hit with "littering" fines from the weigh station even though I never litter anything. I rarely even leave my rig as the armor is fully upgraded and I rarely have to repair
If you enter a system overweight and then get called into a weigh station you still get fined if you sell your overweight items at a shop first. There's no voice line for that though, so it uses the littering one
Selling or getting rid of anything AFTER you get called in to be weighed causes you to be fined… I was at zero percent power on oxygen four percent on mag and nineteen percent on core when I got called to be weighed, I was at 300 out of 800 for capacity so I decided to stop at the shop to get batteries and a air filter before going to the weight station… I got fined 1.5k for “jettisoning cargo” lol
I have been a fan of space scifi for over 50 years and I have a list of 12 things that do not work well in space. To list just two of them; No species intelligent enough to colonize space would ever colonize an asteroid cluster unless it was a mining operation or pirates. Two; No sane astronaut would ever risk his life in a space suit with less than one minute of oxy! This game is more like a flight sim and should have joystick controls.
I haven't struggled at all. But some tips to help yourself that aren't obvious. 4 filters really help, but try to keep their condition staggered. Cargo hard cases will protect whatever is inside them from damage, and you can open them on the shelves to keep them from floating away. Cardboard boxes are just smaller hardcases as far as i can tell. Make sure to pickup important stuff (especially costly stuff like filters) in sectors where they are cheep. I have never had to back into anywhere with a trailer. Sadly you can't pair trailers yourself, hopefully they add that at some point. They have plains to add the control customization, but the keyboard and mouse alone actually isn't supper bad.
It’s on Xbox game pass too. YES this really needs a left to right, up and down thrusters it would make lining up the truck easier. Also Cowboy Bebop was the reason I was excited about this game
The disconnect here, as I see it, s that M&M built a light survival game, but wrapped it in a trucking simulator. Thus survival fans either never find it, or do, and are disappointed by the lack of hunger, thirst, fatigue, and the trucking fans, who all found it, are disappointed by the lack of chill highway cruising and scenery. Finally, open world fans are gated behind a story mode with no option for sandbox. Still it seems like a great if tiny dev team, and for a premiere launch I have high hopes for their next release assuming lessons learned.
For the recommended mode its tedious but i wouldnt say its a huge challenge myself. Now i enjoy survival game mechanics but im overly careful with driving. Im always carrying a load and if i find legal items for dirt cheap i stock up and sell for small profits elsewhere so keeping repair items stocked hasnt been a challenge for me yet. At every station i make sure to fill on gas if im at the halfway point in fuel and i double check what needs to be replaced and what can last for another jump or 2
This is a Truck in space game so you can drop off cargo going foward into drop off points no ned to bacxk it in. There are thruster controls for the right and left thrusters, you just need to look up to find the switches You should use 4 air filters at all times this reduces the wear on filters, and on batteries. The game got a updat since this review, and alot has improved, and maybe you should re-review it.
You hit the nail on the head with the "harshness" of the game. I was hoping for a casual relaxing trucking game with the perfect balance of logi and gameplay. I pretty much worry about logi 80% of the time not really being able to enjoy the cruise. Ill be waiting for future patches that eventually incorporate a more casual mode where I can engage with the gameplay mechanics and enjoy a cruise without paranoia. Great game overall just not as casual as I was hoping.
custom settings all on very easy and payouts are on max. great experience now. the standard difficulty is brutal and not fun at all. the lack of thrusters to go sideways and up and down is not a big deal for me. with the reverse camera docking works pretty well. and since you have almost infinite space to maneuver its ok. i just hope for more dlcs with new gameplay. and a livery editor.
Manage your power. turn off suit charge and all lighting and never drive with gravity on. Put all goods in a box, shelf it and then open the box. Learn supply and demand and the black market. Next, and this made it 5 times better for control is I hooked up my Yoke and pedals with a third party Keyboard emulator. Neither keyboard or controller works for me but now am loving it with my yoke and pedals.(JoyToKey) 100% loving the game beyond your greatest objection 9 out of 10.
i ran out of fuel and stopped 1 meter before the fuel station. reloaded the save and tried some more. at the end it was possible to reach it with only one thruster running. and cut off the extra fuel. with the downside of all the thrusters freezing.
Balance in this game on default difficulty is messed up big time after 3h I restarted the game with custom difficulty and I set the batteries and everything else to low consumption and I finished the game ( all missions ) in 16h besides that hauling those containers in this game is useless because they pay very low for those delivieries. And another huge disappointment is that there is absolutely no reward for doing story missions no exp no money nothing.
why do you need xp and money for doing the storyline on super easy mode? what are you going to spend it on? you don't need batteries or filters, they last forever. are you going to look for lot lizards?
The game doesn't suck, it's you. (GET GOOD!) Born in the 1980s you don't sound much older than me. I've seen so many people complaining about the controls, You can figure it out. I'm a truck driver CDL Class A Doubles, Tankers, Oversized you name it I've driven it. This game feels very close to realistic truck driving the weight the adjustments etc. Some of you don't want a trucking Sim to be a trucking Sim. Some of you don't wanna take the opportunity to learn. Some of you just want instant gratification. This game should be praised for being a traditional game $25.00, complete, no bugs, no microtransactions, looks gorgeous, amazing gameplay, imaginative world, a simple fun game. You know like something people are say that they want.
Controls are fine, and the game is fun. Batteries are comical, and filter costs are awful. The recommended settings aren’t that great for many players. Feels more like starting on hard mode.
@@emlyndewar batteries are a nightmare, i agree with certain comments. That you should be able to charge them. For example in the electrical zones. Idk if there is but there should be a truck upgrade allowing you to convert some of the electrical energy hitting your truck back into the batteries. As for air filters. Always have 3. 2 equipped 1 in storage. When it reaches around 100 health sell the both of them, that should almost allow you to buy a new one. Then buy the 3 at cost.
The default mode has a good balance once you get the ropes of the game. It's more a tutorial problem. The game is clearly designed to be a challenging experience, of course.
I agree that it's playable after you've learned a few things. I hope a lot of people don't refund due to frustration because they played on "Recommended".
@@Bwana There are plenty of players on Steam moaning about the difficulty because they refuse to adapt or change the difficulty. I hope devs don't touch too much the game core systems, it works really well and the progression it's strictly tied to the difficulty level. It's a survival game with a coat of sim-driving experience, really different from games like Euro Truck Simulator. It amazes me how well it is crafted if you consider it's been developed by only two devs and it's also really good on console.
Spaceeee trucker game. :D I've played tons of space engineers and always enjoyed lining up connectors. *wheres the up down side to side movement? qwq* surely its a skill upgrade right? :D no? D: i kinda hope they consider adding that.....erm....lining up my truck with magnet points is kinda frustating. a little scoot scoot to the left versions a whole maneuver dance
Just started playing and ran out of power. Starting a new (custom) game tonight. Agree that thrusters are needed BADLY but I’ve been able to deal with it. Just have to slow your approach and line up.
I have been playing on normal and I am having no trouble at all, people need to take their time and be mindful of what is going on. It is not to be rushed but enjoyed !
8:42 Yeah, I watched other YT's play this at default too and it becomes a survival sim where you're always turning off lights to save battery and always one bad mishap from going into severe debt. I don't play to have a stressful time (life is for that) so I'll do a custom game like you say so I can just have a fun time driving around the galaxy delivering cargo. (Note, you set the Job Deductions to High there, which make penalties for being late etc on a job more expensive. )
I bought this game, but then bought "Qanga" soon after. I will get back to Star Trucker one day, but "Qanga" has a hell of a lot more fun on the plate as far as i am concerned.
I had to restart the game like 7 times until I managed to not make a major mistake and coat me a lot of money. Ao yes, it was frustrating at the beginning.
yeah default mode in this game is trash you spend all your time micormanaging the truck. It's desgined to make you do a lot of salvage and kind of be a rogue lite. custom is the way to go and the game is fun
@Bwana @3:40 why do you make it so hard for yourself? no need to go in backwards at all, there is plenty of space just go in hood front uncupple and youre good oxygen filter you actualy have 3 at the start just use them instantly the more filters the longer their durability you can go up to 4 tun off the lights they cost way to much energy( that is imo something that should be tuned down) after some jobs and you reached the 80k miles get some truck upgrades to get more efficiency and more durability on your hull makes life a lot easier. Difficulty is fine imo its harsh in the beginning but once you get the hang of it its manageable at least it keeps you on your toe´s and makes it more interessting.
to the point you mentioned at 2:58. If you think that the choice to omit those extra thrusters is a big deal i want to bring your attention to driving assist or DA triangular little button just below your speedometer, turn that off and im pretty sure that if you had those extra thrusters on there to strafe. DONT, you'd be wishing you hadnt just trust me on this one, also i wanna point out not being able to strafe is a design choice that in my opinion would have destroyed the game simply because like the devs said you are a truck not a space ship the whole point of this game is to tackle on an entire new subdivision of the Trucking simulator genre. In short if they would have added the extra thrusters parking them trailers would be easier and not even trivial, docking your truck on a shop or a job board is easy when you back up the camera is there i mean what else could you ask for? for space not to have 4 directions you can move on? that is the entire point of the game you not only have reverse and forwards but you have up and down too, and considering this is supposed to be a truck thats enough freedom to last a lifetime!!!
It’s a job management simulation game. It’s not supposed to be super easy to manage. That wouldn’t be fun. I didn’t think the controls are bad at all. Gives driving some weight. Been having a blast 8/10 imo
Thats not a good argument. Because its still a game. Games still need to be fun. No other job sim I´ve played was this stingy with its ressources. Obvious comparison: Euro Truck Sim. Maintenance is relatively cheap compared to your potential earnings and even full on collisions I had with other cars and trucks, because the NPCs suddenly decided to go diagonal on the autobahn, didn´t destroy my income nearly as much as dinking a tiny rock does in space trucker. Also, with batteries this terrible, this civilization does not deserve to be space faring. You know how batteries in normal cars work? They CHARGE while driving. "Just play custom" No! I picked the recommended because its recommended. And I´ll be damned if I start a new game now. This is an issue that needs to be addressed. For the few people like you it has harder difficulties. One is even called mechanic. That's where I would´ve expected this level of maintenance. I do agree that the controls aren´t bad, but that's highly subjective and the inability to rebind them is unacceptable in 2024.
@ShadeScarecrow Very well said Mr. Crow. I wish I had known how demanding the maintenance and repairs would be before I chose recommended, i was 3 hours in and I just gave up. I started on custom and just changed the resource usage and damage taken. Now I'm another 2 hours in and having a great time. It's just a shame to have wasted that time in the first run. Although this game just came out, they had plenty of time to fine-tune these things, especially after playtests and demos. It's a bit disappointing but hopefully they take all the feedback and improve some things. Cool game though.
@@mcfecknugget Exactly my point as well. I think the game's approach is fine, just the default behavior should be more forgiving. I'm having more fun on custom as well.
@@ShadeScarecrowIt's a survival game and your argument is let's remove the survival elements because i'm not having fun. Stop comparing with euro truck simulator, it's a whole different experience.
I had restarted on recommended and I got pretty far but became broke so I tried custom and it’s been to easy but I’m just gonna keep practicing on it for a bit then I’ll go back to recommended
I agree. Too frustraing for me with the parking. Maybe in future updates there will be auto parking option. 'Till then I wont be bothering with this game.. Incidentally, When I'm trying to listen to the commentary, why the distracting totally unnecessary music?. Cheers!
great video, the music needs balancing its as loud as your voice and distracts instead of providing atmosphere. It's also way too busy for background music.
It's a game that doesn't cater to the mainstream audience and tries to do something different. So, many people will not like it, but plenty of people are having a blast as well. I think this is a win.
Thanks for the vid, I think I'll stay away from this one. The micromanagement seems to take away from the relaxation that I'm looking for in a game like this
yeah i spent over 2 hours on recommended and basically ran out of money just to maintain my truck, by the time i complete a quest i need to buy 10 different items and need to upgrade my truck bc it runs like ass. the universe feels kinda dead which is sad and it’s pretty annoying trying to figure out where shops and repair stations are at. them npc trucks are out for blood. i’m glad this game is on gamepass lol
Totally agree. I was hoping for some chill in space, instead ive got frustrating controlls, short distance traveling and non-stop micromanagement of the ship/truck resources ( you telling me, the super modern space hauler cant run without changing batteries for system every hour? )
Telling people to restart the game after they´ve spent a couple of hours on the RECOMMENDED difficulty and got bogged down by maintenance cost is not good advice
@@ShadeScarecrow yeah, they’ve addressed that it needs some balancing. I just hope we don’t need to start a new save. No idea how they got to the recommended they did. I don’t want to go custom and find it’s too easy.
The lack of being able to move the truck up and down is ridiculous and makes it unnecessarily hard to fly. I don't want to hear all of this "oh but it's like driving a real truck in space, otherwise they would be spaceships shaped like trucks" because I've got news for you, they are spaceships shaped like trucks. Also, real trucks don't have the controls of a plane, why is that okay but being able to float up or down on command isn't? How on Earth do you draw that line? It's an obnoxious game feature. I won't play it until they fix it or somebody mods it in.
YES! all i do is run out of time run in to asteroids or strucktures and asshole truckers that steal my portal turn! Jobs dont pay enough to make any money the icons in the game are to small or to far away. You cant navigate to stores jobs or refuel stations You got no distance perseption the truck hits unseen asteroids so when you do get to youre destination and have 100% on the tanker it gets damaged just before you hit the dropzone. Some times you are to early and need to wait 10 minutes I.R.L. to deliver the container. Dont developers play their own game to see if its even fun?? I am ready to make money but tyhe game wont let me! so out of frustration im thinking of quitting the game all togetter. Sad it has to be this way because its a beautifull game but it laks help in many ways you have to read a manual with explanatory pictures and stil;l dont no what to do. you have to get realy close to containers to hook up and if youre not carefull you push it away and once you do that good luck of hooking up to it! its realy frustrating that it has to be shit and good at the same time. The universe looks beautifull but youre to busy to see anything of it even with the outside cam. The first person fiew is so limited you almost cant see out the front window. it could be a great game but with the stupid camea angles they fuked it up!!!
The air filter thing almost messed my run up because I had saved it right before I noticed. If this happens to you get out of your seat and put on your suit and start driving.
My kingdom for some bungee chords.
Or duct tape. Or just doors to the storage rack.
@@jackochainsaw I found out you put the boxes in the rack and then open them. But, in early game that was no fun to deal with.
I love everything about the game, except having to constantly put stuff back on the shelves. They don't have bungie cords in space?
Put stuff in containers, put containers in a storage rack, and open the containers to lock them in place, no gravity is required.
At 1st i found the controls hard. But then i realized this isnlt a truck but a boat and it just clicked
Same here on the recommend, I had to switch to custom.
You never have to reverse in with a trailer. Drive forward straight in.
4:04 - Very early job where you have to back in
Thats Cloverleaf in Edgeburg. Theres just enough space to not have to back in.
@@ducoschollmeijer4841 Way more than just enough...backing in is interesting, but it's never required (at least not in the core sector that I've seen)
Yep drive right in face 1st
@@Bwanacloverleaf, tour can still just drive in , enuff space to run around and get out once you dump the trailer
The money part is a very real part of starting a business. It's very realistic.
The Save Game feature is what helps me!! Lol
Just went custom mode and tailored the play through. Zero frustration in my experience.
Enter the new category of "Souls-like" Transport simulator.
LOL I wouldn't say it's THAT hard 🤣
Custom mode is the way.
Then again, that would be true in real life too ;)
Have fun fellow Star Truckers and keep on truckin'!
The recommended setting is just too hard for a casual gamer, so many things can end your run instantly, and it really ruins an otherwise great potential game.
no it's not. reloading is ok.
gamers today would shit a brick over atari games
Alot of your complaints are a you issue 😊 not to b3me a butt but it is controls are a skill idsue you dont have to back in every space ive seen you pull thru and you level quickly till lvl 20 it slows down upgrade your truk also it will help dont give up your 2 hours in you haven't scratched the surface im 15 hrs in on my first play through and absolutely love it
… why are you backing the trailers in… you definitely don’t need to do that.
Yeah i changed the settings and restarted and it was more chill. I felt the same.
@@hescamping5982I completely agree. If you was survival mode use the default settings. If you want a space trucker sim then use custom mode and turn the survival settings down.
Custom game works great also dont try to do the long hauls until you get upgrades and better batteries and bring a few extra gas cans 😊
play it with custom settings otherwise it really gets frustrating. later in the game you will brick the truck all the time and repair and maintenance will be a bit higher than in the beginning.
default mode is brutal. and i personally dont see a chance to finish the game on the standard difficulty.
It's a shock for sure, but it's fun in its own way. It just needs to balanced for the default experience.
There's a game on steam called Tin Can where you're in a failing lifepod in space trying to survive. Seems a lot like the default difficulty setting.
I think the problem is that release version of the game is bugged. The payouts are supposed to be higher from the perks you take, but they're not. Also, some of the upgrades don't seem to work, like the fuel efficiency one. So the reason people are struggle on the recommended settings is because it's completely borked right now.
Can anyone else playing on recommended confirm this? It would be interesting if it were this simple to fix.
@@BwanaI'm playing on recommended and have about 19 hours playtime. My game works just fine. I get my payout bonus and have no bugs.
yup there are bugs cropping up. lots of us can't progress because Dusty Bear isn't giving us the later missions.
@@Lobster_Lars the cabs weight? If so im at around 180lbs under my maximum
Selling or getting rid of anything AFTER you get called in to be weighed causes you to be fined… I was at zero percent power on oxygen four percent on mag and nineteen percent on core when I got called to be weighed, I was at 300 out of 800 for capacity so I decided to stop at the shop to get batteries and a air filter before going to the weight station… I got fined 1.5k for “jettisoning cargo” lol
i hate rosso more than i hate RL scale stations
Also use the bumpers to roll your truck into the turns so your not jackknifimg and drifting and with the parts prices fluctuat in each sector
At every station i make sure to fill on gas if im at the halfway point in fuel and i double check what needs to be replaced and what can last for another jump or 2
I want them to add different truck models. I think that'll be some cool customisation.
Lmao why are you backing in? Are you a goof?
Upgrade truck, everything gets better
This is a Truck in space game so you can drop off cargo going foward into drop off points no ned to bacxk it in.
There are thruster controls for the right and left thrusters, you just need to look up to find the switches
You should use 4 air filters at all times this reduces the wear on filters, and on batteries.
The hauler difficulty is very chill. Or a cutom game with less pricey things or more rewards for hauling
custom settings all on very easy and payouts are on max. great experience now. the standard difficulty is brutal and not fun at all.
the lack of thrusters to go sideways and up and down is not a big deal for me. with the reverse camera docking works pretty well. and since you have almost infinite space to maneuver its ok.
i just hope for more dlcs with new gameplay. and a livery editor.
Neither keyboard or controller works for me but now am loving it with my yoke and pedals.(JoyToKey) 100% loving the game beyond your greatest objection 9 out of 10.
i ran out of fuel and stopped 1 meter before the fuel station. reloaded the save and tried some more. at the end it was possible to reach it with only one thruster running. and cut off the extra fuel. with the downside of all the thrusters freezing.
did you try turning off the auto control and just coasting into the fuel station?
Recommended for the first few hours suck, but later on, it's honestly nothing. Once you get a system down on the maintenance and pickup scrap

(GET GOOD!)
Born in the 1980s you don't sound much older than me.
This game should be praised for being a traditional game
$25.00, complete, no bugs, no microtransactions, looks gorgeous, amazing gameplay, imaginative world, a simple fun game. You know like something people are say that they want.
Amen! It looks fun when I can finally put the cash down for it!
For real it’s so sad
Great video bro, I agree recommended mode is too hard. I’ve bricked 3 saves so far some with 7 hours on.
Small course corrections, and remember you reverse your controls while backing in. Fun game!
Spaceeee trucker game. :D I've played tons of space engineers and always enjoyed lining up connectors.
*wheres the up down side to side movement? qwq* surely its a skill upgrade right? :D no? D:
i kinda hope they consider adding that.....erm....lining up my truck with magnet points is kinda frustating. a little scoot scoot to the left versions a whole maneuver dance
the controls suck the dev's need to get that fixed yesterday
If you have a controller and are good with it, the controls are super enjoyable, its heavy, floaty and unresponsive, but feels right
Just started playing and ran out of power. Starting a new (custom) game tonight. Agree that thrusters are needed BADLY but I’ve been able to deal with it. Just have to slow your approach and line up.
6dof isn't needed at all
I have been playing on normal and I am having no trouble at all, people need to take their time and be mindful of what is going on.
(Note, you set the Job Deductions to High there, which make penalties for being late etc on a job more expensive. )
Oops, I guess I'm starting over again 😆
I bought this game, but then bought "Qanga" soon after. I will get back to Star Trucker one day, but "Qanga" has a hell of a lot more fun on the plate as far as i am concerned.
No it's just skill issue
Money is a pain do moon baby's questline immediately. Then scavenge. 30-40k easy scrap runs
I had to restart the game like 7 times until I managed to not make a major mistake and coat me a lot of money. Ao yes, it was frustrating at the beginning.
I can recommend it if you struggling from star citizen and wanted to try smth new while waiting for the next patch.
yeah default mode in this game is trash you spend all your time micormanaging the truck. It's desgined to make you do a lot of salvage and kind of be a rogue lite. custom is the way to go and the game is fun
Felt the same over the game, i actually returned it after a couple hours, got me boring pretty fast, went back to ATS
@Bwana
@3:40
why do you make it so hard for yourself?
no need to go in backwards at all, there is plenty of space just go in hood front uncupple and youre good
oxygen filter
you actualy have 3 at the start just use them instantly
the more filters the longer their durability you can go up to 4
tun off the lights they cost way to much energy( that is imo something that should be tuned down)
after some jobs and you reached the 80k miles get some truck upgrades to get more efficiency and more durability on your hull makes life a lot easier.
@@ShadeScarecrow replies to my opinion with “that’s not a good argument” then continues to prattle on with your opinion. 😂 ok bubba 👍

I absolutely love the game, but i think the devs need to adjust the economy a bit
I agree. Too frustraing for me with the parking. Maybe in future updates there will be auto parking option. 'Till then I wont be bothering with this game.. Incidentally, When I'm trying to listen to the commentary, why the distracting totally unnecessary music?. Cheers!
And is the best part of the game m8 👍😉
Yeah the music was a bit too in your face. During editing it didn't seem that loud. Thanks for the feedback
great video, the music needs balancing its as loud as your voice and distracts instead of providing atmosphere.
It's also way too busy for background music.
It's a game that doesn't cater to the mainstream audience and tries to do something different. So, many people will not like it, but plenty of people are having a blast as well. I think this is a win.
Thanks for the vid, I think I'll stay away from this one. The micromanagement seems to take away from the relaxation that I'm looking for in a game like this
No problem.
I think you can make it a casual experience by setting everything to easy, but the default experience is anything but.
yeah i spent over 2 hours on recommended and basically ran out of money just to maintain my truck, by the time i complete a quest i need to buy 10 different items and need to upgrade my truck bc it runs like ass. the universe feels kinda dead which is sad and it’s pretty annoying trying to figure out where shops and repair stations are at. them npc trucks are out for blood. i’m glad this game is on gamepass lol
Agree about the progression, and the world does seem smaller than I thought it would be
Totally agree. I was hoping for some chill in space, instead ive got frustrating controlls, short distance traveling and non-stop micromanagement of the ship/truck resources ( you telling me, the super modern space hauler cant run without changing batteries for system every hour? )
