They transported the jews from Norway in winter time, in the bottom of the ship. Which ment, the people there were forced to sleep on water turned to ice.
" Mr. Hubert was sent to Buchenwald. ''In the camp there was a cage with a bear and an eagle,'' he said. ''Every day, they would throw a Jew in there. The bear would tear him apart and the eagle would pick at his bones.'' ''But that's unbelievable,'' whispered a visitor. ''It is unbelievable,'' said Mr. Hubert, ''but it happened.'' The same is true for anyone who survives any tragic event, or a series of horrific events where others perished.

I've handled both original notes and the Operation Bernhard counterfeits, and they were very good and would have only gotten better as time went on. They could have destroyed the British banking system given enough time. Dropping them from aircraft would not have worked, though. It would have attracted too much attention and the government would have been suspicious of the notes right away. Sneaking it in by covert means and having spies across the country spending it into circulation would have worked better. It would have been less noticeable.
Still in all it was a sound plan. If you had a bill that's so close to the real deal that the authorities can't distinguish, then that's more valuable than any weapon in the field.
Or Operation Andreas, apparantly there were several names or several operations. In the Wiki article about Alfred Naujocks it's called Operation Andreas.
Growing up I heard many stories about the war my grandfather on my father's side was an Italian Soldier and my grandfather on my mother's side was a Greek resistance fighter both of them had stories about different tragedies you could always see the sorrow in their eyes when they told them nothing good ever comes from war you would think we would learn from the past yet here we are still doing the same thing there must be a better way
A lot of those notes still circulated in several countries. It’s been said that until England took those currency notes out of circulation, you could easily have been handed those counterfeit notes and spent them, even deposited them into banks. They were that perfect.
There is a beautiful portrait of Reginald Pole in Lambeth Palace. Lambeth was open to the public for tours in the summer of 2000. It was part of the String of Pearls opened for just that summer.
Everyone above the rank of Captain knew the war was not winnable in 1942 according to Skorzeny. 1944 was far past the point of thinking the war was lost.
I believe the line was 'by 1944 the SS knew the war was lost', which in no way contradicts what you are saying. He didn't say that they first realised it was lost in 1944. In reality by 1944 they were not safe operating in the location they had been, this was the point.
The only problem is, the counterfeiters can't keep up with any normal government in putting out new money. There just aren't enough printing presses around.
I think the Germans made the best use of the forged notes-at that time most British people would never get to see a £5.00 note-it's purchasing power was about £300.00 at today's rates so it would be very difficult to introduce them on such a scale as would damage the economy.
Although two totally different scenarios, you hear about the vets who came back from Vietnam with mental health issues and such but you never hear of the issues survivors of the worst tragedy know to man had to live with. How can one live a normal life after the camps? When, I watch the survivors talk about it, it blows my mind how adjusted they have become and resilient they are "For lack of better words" My heart goes out to all that perished and survived.
Although only few vets who suffered ptsd after vietnam war, the loud story you hear were purposely higlighted to gain sympathy for the lost battle. Most vetd cope very well, some of them becomes succesfull politicians, still work in govt. And enjoying their retirement.
I was so fascinated with the Bernhardt Operation story that I purchased a genuine British Pound and the forged version from 2 separate dealers, one from the U.S. (William Rosenblaum) and the other dealer from London.
There was a British black comedy/ drama in 1981 called Private Schulz based on this story. It starred Michael Elphick, Billie Whitelaw and Ian Richardson. Terrific show, some parts are hysterical and Richardson does a Petter Sellers and plays three different characters. Check it out. Stay well everyone!

That fact my father told me that when I was a child, he told me a lot about the WWII history. He was really neutral and objective, what was good, was good what was wrong was wrong from any side and always with proves and explanation. When I was 16 years old (1961)...I had to give a lecture at school..so I chose to talk about the money forgery...also the problems the Nazis had to create the right paper..they found out the bank of England used a combination of different rags...after five minutes the teacher stopped me and I was thrown out of the classroom...I was a liar for it was not in his history books.. That gave me reasons enough to study more about both the world wars...like.... why the first war, why there was a second war, the real reason and not the version of the victors for they write the history..also..why Japan attacked Pearl Harbour and why there were no aircraft carriers.....but till now, people want to believe what they are told...easier...and better for their conscience..
@Jason Bouphasavanh to teach about WW II is a work of years...but I try to make some time to tell you why WWI started and why WW II started with proves...I don't know what nationality you have but be prepared..it's an ugly history.
There should never be a WW II..if there was not a WW I End XIX century, the industrial revolution was booming...new technology, new techniques, new machines, But that means alo new weapons...and that gives problems in an era where uniforms were in fashion... If you're engaged to a girl...and before marriage you only may look at her..is like Santa brings you a bicycle but you only may ring the bell With the new weapons it was the same you get them but you only may aim your neighbour's head...just for fun. More The German KRUPS (steel factory) was asked to put a railroad in the middle East... KRUPS, not stupid, saw there was petrol in th region...KRUPS proposed to put the railroad for free, they only wanted the ground for the rail raid and 10 kilometers beside the rails...they got the deal..and became independent from foreign petrol dealers That means German technology was far better than the French an English and now they had the energy also...energy that normally was in hands of the British. But how to stop the Germans? The killing of the Austrian crown prince and his wife in Sarajevo (yogoslavia) was a good reason to play with the new weapon toys.. Austria wanted to punish Sarajevo for the murder and declared the war Russia, friends with Sarajevo and not prepared for a war, but it's only for fun, Germany, friendly with Austria, wanted to help Austria. France, friend with Russia joined the war game. England, friends with France wanted to play also... Oh what a lovely war... Everybody, all over Europe, was excited...at last some adventure and were home again with Christmas. Not....it became the dirtiest war ever...
@Jason Bouphasavanh ...why to blame Germany for WW I ? November 11. 1918.. there was an armistice...and the majority voted to blame Germany for the war...something that was very convenient for England and France...That way they got rid of them string economic competitor. In 1919 the countries gardener in Versailles to dictate the conditions... Germany was to blaime for everything Germany has to pay for all the damage Germany has to put on the products..."made in Germany" Germany even has to pay for the pensions of the British soldiers.etc,etc.. In other words Germany had to be killed so that the opponents could take the whole market...

@@silverbullet2008bb Unless there had been a massive 1000 year long propaganda campaign against your tribe that convinced all the barmen that you are no good and they all threw you out just because of that.
@@trijezdci4588 In fairness propaganda only goes so far... Also the concept of being thrown out implies that you were invited into the bar in the first place, which on your analogy wouldn't have happened if they were all on notice that you were a persona non grata.
These men were the lucky ones. Walk a day in their boots before you insult them.

I read about this as a kid and High School junior high and I was totally impressed with the story was totally amazing and here it is documentary on it super thank you

It's made from cotton.

A seriously lucky series of events spared these great men. Despite knowing, not one of the 6,000,000 murdered would want survivors to suffer, the survivors guilt must weigh heavily, on them from time to time. The same is true for anyone who survives any tragic event, or a series of horrific events where others perished.
Reports by the red cross in 1968 proved that 250,000 jews were killed it seems to have been overlooked

Amazing story! Thanks for sharing! The CREATOR bless you all near and far!
I cant believe so many people did not know about this
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Counterfeiters_(2007_film)
And 75 years later we are now counterfeiting the currency ourselves. 2020
And there are a few netflix shows about counterfeiting - good girls / money heist / AND. Trumps designated survivor is named David Bernhardt...

And some people today in this country think they have it bad, don't forget the past .
When you have to compare your circumstances to the Holocaust in order to say you do not have things bad, you have it bad.
@@LarryNathanielPhoto This statement is utter nonsense
dude, we cannot justify the injustice of today by comparing it to the holocaust
People should really stop using the holocaust as a barometer for suffering
Frightfully awesome...
There is a Movie called "The counterfeiters" that you must see, based on Operation Bernhard.
I seem to remember that it was an Austrian production and the movie was in German
Or Operation Andreas, apparantly there were several names or several operations. In the Wiki article about Alfred Naujocks it's called Operation Andreas.
They made a show about this
Called "Private Shultz"
I remember that was back in
1982
I loved it loved it so you know how I can see it in america
Growing up I heard many stories about the war my grandfather on my father's side was an Italian Soldier and my grandfather on my mother's side was a Greek resistance fighter both of them had stories about different tragedies you could always see the sorrow in their eyes when they told them nothing good ever comes from war you would think we would learn from the past yet here we are still doing the same thing there must be a better way
@April M i agree with you everything except war part sorry but there has tobe a better way people dieing is not the answer
@April M agreed some thing has to be done
What an impressive documentary!
Its started all over again. The survivors are already saying the same.
A lot of those notes still circulated in several countries. It’s been said that until England took those currency notes out of circulation, you could easily have been handed those counterfeit notes and spent them, even deposited them into banks. They were that perfect.
one of the most fascinating stories of WW2
There is a beautiful portrait of Reginald Pole in Lambeth Palace. Lambeth was open to the public for tours in the summer of 2000. It was part of the String of Pearls opened for just that summer.
wrongly accused of undermining the german economy then used to do the same in britain
Good point but I don't think it would work it would be like someone trying to pay today with 100 pounds ?😅
Subtitles would have been great for those of us with impaired hearing....
Turn on the subtitles on the video then.
Everyone above the rank of Captain knew the war was not winnable in 1942 according to Skorzeny. 1944 was far past the point of thinking the war was lost.
MarkH10 oh wow. Were they working on an armistice?
What a great story and thanks
please refrain from foul language...God bless you.
Which of the gods are you about eh...
Uh what's wrong with you ?
Although two totally different scenarios, you hear about the vets who came back from Vietnam with mental health issues and such but you never hear of the issues survivors of the worst tragedy know to man had to live with. How can one live a normal life after the camps? When, I watch the survivors talk about it, it blows my mind how adjusted they have become and resilient they are "For lack of better words" My heart goes out to all that perished and survived.
I would say that the communist systematic starvation of over 10 million people is worse
Although only few vets who suffered ptsd after vietnam war, the loud story you hear were purposely higlighted to gain sympathy for the lost battle. Most vetd cope very well, some of them becomes succesfull politicians, still work in govt. And enjoying their retirement.
30% of them weren't smack heads...

I was so fascinated with the Bernhardt Operation story that I purchased a genuine British Pound and the forged version from 2 separate dealers, one from the U.S. (William Rosenblaum) and the other dealer from London.
The US CIA printed 1 billion dollars of real us currency in Vietnam...actual plates and real paper...legal tenure to finance Air America type schemes.

An amazing story of the human spirit, and the will to simply persevere through one of the most grotesque periods of human history.
There are no winners or losers of war, just scars on soldiers, trauma for survivors, graveyards for the casualties and a more sad earth. Let’s embrace peace.
very interesting
Where did this happen? I am very interested in this.
@@rustyalcorta3643 ...I want to explain what I know, only, what do you mean?...the fake money, attack Pearl Harbour, why there was a WW2......
@Jason Bouphasavanh to teach about WW II is a work of years...but I try to make some time to tell you why WWI started and why WW II started with proves...I don't know what nationality you have but be prepared..it's an ugly history.
There should never be a WW II..if there was not a WW I
End XIX century, the industrial revolution was booming...new technology, new techniques, new machines,
But that means alo new weapons...and that gives problems in an era where uniforms were in fashion...
If you're engaged to a girl...and before marriage you only may look at her..is like Santa brings you a bicycle but you only may ring the bell
With the new weapons it was the same you get them but you only may aim your neighbour's head...just for fun.

The German KRUPS (steel factory) was asked to put a railroad in the middle East...

German technology was far better than the French an English and now they had the energy also...energy that normally was in hands of the British.
But how to stop the Germans?
The killing of the Austrian crown prince and his wife in Sarajevo (yogoslavia) was a good reason to play with the new weapon toys..
Austria wanted to punish Sarajevo for the murder and declared the war
Russia, friends with Sarajevo and not prepared for a war, but it's only for fun,
Germany, friendly with Austria, wanted to help Austria.
Germany was to blaime for everything
Germany has to pay for all the damage
Germany has to put on the products..."made in Germany"
Germany even has to pay for the pensions of the British soldiers.etc,etc..
In other words Germany had to be killed so that the opponents could take the whole market...
And there are people who still say that the genocide in WW2 never happened. We must remember this so it nevera happens again !!!
