This should not affect "stutter" or human recognizable performance at all. You must have something else affecting it or didn't run enough testing. CPUs switch frequency far to quickly for "stuttering" to be recorded with most tools, let alone a human noticing.
C states turns off idle cores. The stuttering you get is the cores being reenable when needed. That’s why turning it off illuminates stuttering. When off It leaves the core in idle mode at normally 0.1 MHz when is turned off it is 0 MHz, so it stutters when coming back to life. It’s not dangerous, switching off. You may see Electric bill off around $2 to $3 per year increase.
If you have Ryzen 7000 and X670/E and you are suffering from random low-load or idle freezing and restarts that won't seem to go away, I found that turning Global C-State Control also fixes this issue.
wonder if this is my tr 2950x problem. if i leave pbo on or off and default voltage and clock speeds it will randomly freeze while doing nothing. voltage settings don't matter either. I must keep it over clocked to 4 Ghz to keep it from crashing.

At least based on my experience with a 7950x, no matter what I did, what voltage I set, what settings I changed or did not change at all, the random freezing and restarts always happened and the only way these all stopped was by turning Global C-State Control to off. Actually, I found this tip from an AMD-related thread deep online where a person claiming to know folks involved in JEDEC, who apparently told him that AMD released Ryzen 7000 knowing fully well it could not use all four RAM slots properly as well as utilize the CPU in perfect working order. This person claimed they were told that the folks inside the engineering process knew that Ryzen 7000 was going to have problems with certain levels of C-State control, but they decided to launch anyway because they just planned on trying to fix the issue with the next several coming generations. While I take this finding with a heap of salt, based on personal experience and from what I can see from many other users, it does seem to hold weight. As most Ryzen 7000 users have settled onto the idea that 2 sticks of RAM @ 64GB at most is the best for avoiding many issues, and some do find their C-State Control and things like RAM OC settings to be highly finicky. I did not save the thread though, so there's also that factor with my word being 4th or 5th-person word of mouth.
yeah, this is a nice advice, but you have to keep in mind that without c-states the power draw, specially at idle, will increase quite a lot. on my rig which has a 5600X, enabling c-states results in a drop of 30W at idle, and since i'm living in brazil this is not worth disabling. If power is cheap on your country, I totally advice disabling it if you're having some strutters

Well... I have a 7800X3D. Instead of consuming more power at idle, you could try opening the task manager, and setting the game process to run at high priority. That's it. Undervolting the CPU + a good AIO, and this beast of a CPU is unleashed. These two things will make the biggest difference in any game. Disabling C-states for me did absolutely NOTHING, and it increased my power consumption at idle. Not cool... What would be interesting to know is wheter or not using the iGPU for extra monitors, when the GPU output ports are full, actually does anything to performance. Say there are 4 monitors plugged in the GPU, and you add additional monitors in the iGPU outputs on the MoBo.

@@MrExdous69Of you are a pro in undervolting then you can even increase base or boost clock of your cpu while still creating less heat and having more performance at the same time. If you dont know what you are doing, just keep the cpu stock. Overclocking isnt that effectiv anymore like back in the day. You can gain maybe +10% speed, and even that is already a good achievment. You wont notice it in most cases
I have turboboost that works with the cpu and gpu. C-states on it idles low but can go well above it's base frequency. C-states on, it just stays at its base frequency all the time but won't go above it either. You can check it out by clicking on task manager and then performance to see how your bios tweak worked out.
Rediculous advice. C state is there to down clock your CPU when not in use. Not only will you get an increased power bill you can reduce the life of your CPU. 🍩
Are there actual studies about that ? Or will it reduce the lifespan of the cpu from let's say 15 years to 10 ? After some google searching, many people say that tuning off c states won't decrease the lifespan of the cpu. So I'm a bit confused. I thought that what decreased the lifespan of the cpu was the vcore and temperature UNDER LOAD or running it at a fixed crazy high vcore 24/7.
That's only important if you plan to run our current shitty CPUs for the next hundred years. You CANNOT measure if C states will or will not shorten the lifespan of your CPU. Theoretically possible, practically negligible!! The increased power bill will amount to a couple of beers worth over one year, is it reaaaaallly that important? The conclusive answer is that disabling C-State will increase IDLE power consumption significantly and will increase heat by proxy, which in theory may reduce the CPU lifespan since it's now running hotter for longer periods of time. The question is: Do you intend to keep the same CPU for more than a decade for it to be meaningful to you? Is the price of the power bill where you live considerable enough that the increased power bill will affect you? Do you have good enough cooling that the increased heat won't mean much if anything?

my only stutter peformance is coming from low VRAM. and limitations in thread capacity. i use potato device. from my experience, setting CPU "power saving" C state active in BIOS does not affect any performance. i believe thats the same with those ASPM new options in BIOSes that has similar "power saving C state" like feature for GPU. i believe, it will NOT affects performance. if it does, there is something wrong in how your OS implement it. in linux it works properly(at least on mine), active when you idle or doing low load tasks, and auto disable when you active and under medium to heavy loads.
The whole "OMG Disabling the C-States increases my power consuption x1000%" Not the case. Even if the clock speeds are always at max speed there is a difference between the CPU being UNDER LOAD vs IDLE. Disabling the C-States fixed a lot of my gaming problems where the clockspeeds were jumping up and down causting stability problems. For overclockers this is also the right step to make it'll make the whole CPU more stable. So yes, max frequency isnt the same in load vs not. Depends on how much the application requests the CPU too. Power draw isnt always the same.
@@LustSinJin Yep. The C-Staces are nothing but a power saving feature. Also it depends on how the GPU requests the CPU but disabling them will keep the processor be steady all times, so it'll be up for any calls.
Hey man idk if you know this but with some msi motherboards they have a special setting called MSI Kombo Strike that allow higher clock speeds kinda like PBO but better even an lvl 1 undervolt mode but the lvl 3 is what i run now and it give about 4.4 to 4.5 ghz on mode 3 so if you could make a video on it or take a look at it im sure you will get great gains from your 5800x3d like i have just thought id let you know if you haven't ever heard of it considering no way to OC the chips but this is like a workaround btw love the videos great info keep it up!
@@hadoken8688 Yes and no, it's an offset to the AFVS curve what you're talking about. The CPU draws less Power at all states yes, so it may constantly boost to a higher frequency (almost all 5800X3D i.e. would do exactly that - 4450Mhz allcore boost) but stability has to be tested same as clock stretching.
I have run 5800x3D about 1,5 years -30 on all cores, 95W PPT, 60A TDC, 90A EDC. After this small change, the CPU runs at max boost clock 4550mhz all the time while gaming. Never slowing down + the CPU runs insanely cool/silent. I used to run it with a Lian Li 360 AIO, but changed to minimalistic one fan air cooler. Still, the CPU runs max boost speed all the time and performance is insanely better than with stock voltages. Boost clocks were all over the place and the power consumption was over 30% higher. The undervolt performance with low power is the only thing why I haven't changed to a new gen platform. Max 70-80W in Cyberpunk with path tracing and 100+ fps on ultrawide 1440p or 4k TV when paired with 4080 Super. In most games, the 5800x3D runs just under 50W at all time. Freaking insane CPU efficiency + gaming performance on old platform. Can't wait for next gen x3D CPUs. I just hope they would enable the massive 3D cache on all cores for all their 16+ core models.
@@cristiangongola8138 Asus and MSI are the only two viable options for motherboards. That's what I've seen over my last couple of decades of building, gaming and reading a hundred thousand + PC related posts. Gigabyte sucks. Asrock is low end. The best RAM is Crucial, Kingston and Corsair. Anything Corsair is great. Samsung memory when possible, like M.2 NVME drives. They cost more for a reason. Don't buy Powercolor GPU's. They're utter trash. Asus makes the best GPUs. Custom PCBs with overkill VRMs. Hence the premium price. XFX is okay, too, though. Most GPU brands are fine, just not Powercolor.
I use vsync and no longer get stutters or even see micro stutters. But my monitor is Freesync 40fps - 144fps as reported in Adrenalin software. I have herd about something like what you did back in the early days of Ryzen, something to do with a sleep bug I think. Anyway I am rocking a 6900XT in a custom water loop with a 5800X3D. In my opinion any X3D part will give you more performance out of your gpu in most games. To me last gen bargains in gpus is the way to go. They are performant enough to make 95% happy playing their game of choice. Upscaling works on last gen gpus. Take the saved $$ and buy a new monitor even OLED, You will notice that way more than a gpu upgrade.
From my experience the sleep bug had something to do with RAM that is not fully supported on a given setup. I had one of these computers that would not go to sleep. Eventual BIOS update have fixed it (increased compatibility) and now the computer goes to sleep as it should.
I think you need to setup registry editor for CPU and GPU behavior. If Basic settings in power management not works maybe something overdrive the Windows setting. Official or 3th party program for advanced tuning make that job. I personaly use 3th party throtlestop on my intel laptop to set all registry. Power limits, voltage, freqency. There is also adjusting speed how fast its going from low state to maximum frequency which is very usefull for laptop if you have start/stop fan than the temperature rise slower and get time to fan start properly without cpu thermal throtle but for desktop you need to set this to 0. Also iGPU options are there but I didnt investigate.
Nowadays, we value power efficiency a great deal. Not just about raw power like back in the days. Energy costs are too darn high these days that people are willing to underclock and even take a few percent off to cut down their energy bills.
Hey there, VERY interesting. I have a very similar system. A PNY 4090 XLR8, 7800X3D, 32GB @ CL30 and an Asrock X570E Steel Legend. I figure you have better cooling than I so fair enough. I chose to undervolt my CPU. In fact I use a preset on the Asrock board ... PBO on, tjmax 85C, all-core curve optimised -30mv. Now all the cores easily hit its maximum 5050MHz in gaming and multitasking 100% runs at 4925MHz @ 82C. I don't know what the Max frequency on the 7950X3D CCD with VCache is... is it higher? Can you please tell me whether you are running four or two sticks of RAM? I would dearly like to know. Cheers

I have an office pc with a 13700k, 3090 & gtx 1050ti. I like how the Intel cpu (13700k) multitasks. I mine with a 3090, use a gtx 1050ti for video/playback. I cpu mine with the cpu's P-cores and play Batman: Arkham Asylum (older games) at 1440p all high settings locked at 62fps using the cpu's E-cores (I use device manager) and Intel igpu (overclocked to 2000mhz, stock voltage) while playing/listening to a RUclips 1080p video, all with no stutters.
Still a dangerous option I will not take in my rig. I rather not get my own family angry with the power bill spike tbh. Good thing my Ryzen 5 5600G is okay and still operational in stock speeds.
Turning that option off, means your CPU will be running at 100% capacity at all times. It will significantly reduce your CPU lifespan and cause instability. Your CPU needs to enter “rest mode” when it isn’t required to be utilized at full capacity.
On the flip side setting your max CPU speed to 99% in windows will stop the fans spinning up (especially on laptops). It's odd how it saves a decent amount of power (handy in the summer when you don't have aircon).
I believe that is an inherent bug when you overclock your system. I have to reduce CPU max power limit in windows to 99% or less in order to make the power management kick in and idle the CPU. Any power plan with 100% max limit will run the CPU at 100% when you have overclocked the CPU in the BIOS. Edit: Windows will power manage and idle the CPU clocks down no problem with 100% max limit set if there are no CPU overclocks set in the BIOS.
You're trading performance for the power saving. I've seen people recommend this when they're causing over-heating issues by NOT allowing the CPU power scaling default in balanced power mode.
i do disable C-states it prevents CPU cores to idle (sleep) but i still saw 2 core idling below stock Bclock in a 3700x. But C-states enabled forces more core to idle when not in used (should be fine on most user). But disabling C-states reduces stuttering.
Man, I want to say thank you so freaking much. I've been struggling with the constant stuttering on my 7800x3D on the Asus X670E-F gaming motherboard, and I will definitely try this because at least someone is talking about it right now.
@@phongluu1725 There are about 2-3% of games that perform worse with SAM on. AND Darktide is one of the worst optimized games I've ever played. My 5900x + 6700XT 12GB has trouble getting decent framerates in it. And to beat it all, it's barely putting a load on my GPU.

What is c stats.is it still good for MSI board? I bought the MSI board. used to go ASUS. I don't understand why it started shutting down on it's own when playing a game. Changed some stuff in the bios from a google search. I think it got better making sure the power supply cables are in. google says get another power supply. Under power overclock thing i googled worked the best. Gave me amazing fps. To much trouble this time. underclock GPU also worked.
Had the problem, it's the power supply. Basically the power supply can't give correct ammount of energy and go bellow or beyond the line tolerance, so the system shutdown to avoid a short circuit. If you have a modular supply, you can try to switch the PCI-E cables, or remove cable extensions if you got one. If it doesn't solve, I highly recommend another power supply as insistence on the current one may damage something.

this isn't worth it to basically everyone who owns a computer because you are using more CPU power when you don't need to its a good thing to keep C states on because there is no reason to make your CPU run harder than it absolutely has to and use more volts than needed
AMD CPU fTPM is also trash, disable that. Windows doesn't actually need it and it is no more secure. Creates stutters in games, also beware when you disable it, windows password will be wrong and you will need to reset it.
I was thinking hyper(multi)threading or C-states, these are 2 out of 5 parameters I track even in saved BIOS profile names, the rest being number of active cores, max freq and voltage.
As far as I’m aware C-states may be necessary for Windows and game bar to choose the cache cores for gaming. If you only have cache cores this isn’t a worry.
The system running at full speed non-stop = hotter system and louder fans + more dust inside + decreased longevity of the whole system, including the GPU. No thanks.
Why would it reduce the lifespan of the GPU ? And in my experience turning c states off has barely any impact on the cpu's temperature, maybe a few degrees more at idle but that's it. So not any added noise or dust due to higher fan speed, and barely any increase in GPU temp. As for the lifespan of the cpu, I run it at a fixed vcore of 1.36v 24/7 as I have always done with my previous cpus without any issue. From what I read, what kills cpus are temperature and voltage but under load. Under load, c states are disabled anyway.
Well its good to be aware of this C-State (Idle State) is used to reduce power consumption and run the CPU cooler. You have a good point and straight to the point thank you. I think I will have it enabled, don't want to waste money for a few extra frames per sec.
if u dont overclock like a freak, just leave c-states on. Its not only the power consumtion. do you run your car all time at peak rpm? its really not worth..
You end up with more consistency in the frames. Instead of having a large parabola, you have a tiny blip. I see it being especially useful for competitive games where any little slip up can hurt your game.
My PC was freezing randomly with no signal on the screen. Event Viewer showed critical error ID 41 source kernel power. Someone said disabling global c state is the solution. Is this actually going to be the solution?
@@shadafridi at first the freezes occurred after longer periods of time. And now they have stopped altogether for some reason. I disabled and enabled it a few times. ID 41 is no clear error code it just means the system had an unexpected shutdown. Idk if this is what fixed it but it's been a few weeks and my system hasn't frozen like that again.

What about low fps games like Microsoft Flight Simulator? I get on average 33-43 fps. (Monitor is Samsung G5 34 inch with Freesync Premium 165hz and GPU is Super 1660).
Why did you spend so much on a high fps monitor and pair it with a low budget, low fps GPU? The budget priority is the GPU on a gaming build. You should have bought a better GPU and cheaper monitor.
By any chance is your setup freezing the 1st game for The Finals? I have a very similar setup 7950x3D/4090 on Windows 10 and the 1st game is ALWAYS freezing for 30-45secs but after that it's smooth up until I turn it off and back on. I have Updated GPU drivers (And went back 4 versions), updated CPU drivers, updated bios, tried command lines in steam, validated filed for game, reinstalled game, used both power saving and full performance mode, disabled C-state, and tried using process lasso.

@@darylandcat No. It usually harms performance and it's therefore disabled in all games by the graphics card drivers of NVIDIA, Intel and AMD. They then whitelist specific games that are allowed to use it, look it up! The user cannot manually whitelist games. It has to be done by the driver vendor because ReBAR causes so many problems.

That's pretty common when undervolting with curve optimizer. One or several of the cores don't get enough voltage in low load state so it crashes.
Out of curiosity... Do you by chance check Event Viewer for any of that and if sooo do you by chance know if it states WHEW Logger 18 or 19?

Well... I have a 7800X3D. Instead of consuming more power at idle, you could try opening the task manager, and setting the game process to run at high priority. That's it. Undervolting the CPU + a good AIO, and this beast of a CPU is unleashed. These two things will make the biggest difference in any game. Disabling C-states for me did absolutely NOTHING, and it increased my power consumption at idle. Not cool...
What would be interesting to know is wheter or not using the iGPU for extra monitors, when the GPU output ports are full, actually does anything to performance. Say there are 4 monitors plugged in the GPU, and you add additional monitors in the iGPU outputs on the MoBo.

If you dont know what you are doing, just keep the cpu stock. Overclocking isnt that effectiv anymore like back in the day. You can gain maybe +10% speed, and even that is already a good achievment. You wont notice it in most cases

I have turboboost that works with the cpu and gpu. C-states on it idles low but can go well above it's base frequency. C-states on, it just stays at its base frequency all the time but won't go above it either. You can check it out by clicking on task manager and then performance to see how your bios tweak worked out.

After some google searching, many people say that tuning off c states won't decrease the lifespan of the cpu. So I'm a bit confused. I thought that what decreased the lifespan of the cpu was the vcore and temperature UNDER LOAD or running it at a fixed crazy high vcore 24/7.

The question is: Do you intend to keep the same CPU for more than a decade for it to be meaningful to you? Is the price of the power bill where you live considerable enough that the increased power bill will affect you? Do you have good enough cooling that the increased heat won't mean much if anything?

my only stutter peformance is coming from low VRAM. and limitations in thread capacity. i use potato device. from my experience, setting CPU "power saving" C state active in BIOS does not affect any performance. i believe thats the same with those ASPM new options in BIOSes that has similar "power saving C state" like feature for GPU. i believe, it will NOT affects performance. if it does, there is something wrong in how your OS implement it. in linux it works properly(at least on mine), active when you idle or doing low load tasks, and auto disable when you active and under medium to heavy loads.
The whole "OMG Disabling the C-States increases my power consuption x1000%" Not the case. Even if the clock speeds are always at max speed there is a difference between the CPU being UNDER LOAD vs IDLE. Disabling the C-States fixed a lot of my gaming problems where the clockspeeds were jumping up and down causting stability problems. For overclockers this is also the right step to make it'll make the whole CPU more stable. So yes, max frequency isnt the same in load vs not. Depends on how much the application requests the CPU too. Power draw isnt always the same.

Hey man idk if you know this but with some msi motherboards they have a special setting called MSI Kombo Strike that allow higher clock speeds kinda like PBO but better even an lvl 1 undervolt mode but the lvl 3 is what i run now and it give about 4.4 to 4.5 ghz on mode 3 so if you could make a video on it or take a look at it im sure you will get great gains from your 5800x3d like i have just thought id let you know if you haven't ever heard of it considering no way to OC the chips but this is like a workaround btw love the videos great info keep it up!
im using kombo strike with my 5800x3d and seen a slight performance boost too.
Kombo Strikre 3 reduce voltage by -30 mv , so less heat and better frequency (stability)

The CPU draws less Power at all states yes, so it may constantly boost to a higher frequency (almost all 5800X3D i.e. would do exactly that - 4450Mhz allcore boost) but stability has to be tested same as clock stretching.

I have run 5800x3D about 1,5 years -30 on all cores, 95W PPT, 60A TDC, 90A EDC. After this small change, the CPU runs at max boost clock 4550mhz all the time while gaming. Never slowing down + the CPU runs insanely cool/silent. I used to run it with a Lian Li 360 AIO, but changed to minimalistic one fan air cooler. Still, the CPU runs max boost speed all the time and performance is insanely better than with stock voltages. Boost clocks were all over the place and the power consumption was over 30% higher.
The undervolt performance with low power is the only thing why I haven't changed to a new gen platform. Max 70-80W in Cyberpunk with path tracing and 100+ fps on ultrawide 1440p or 4k TV when paired with 4080 Super. In most games, the 5800x3D runs just under 50W at all time. Freaking insane CPU efficiency + gaming performance on old platform. Can't wait for next gen x3D CPUs. I just hope they would enable the massive 3D cache on all cores for all their 16+ core models.

@@cristiangongola8138 Asus and MSI are the only two viable options for motherboards. That's what I've seen over my last couple of decades of building, gaming and reading a hundred thousand + PC related posts. Gigabyte sucks. Asrock is low end.
The best RAM is Crucial, Kingston and Corsair. Anything Corsair is great. Samsung memory when possible, like M.2 NVME drives. They cost more for a reason.
Don't buy Powercolor GPU's. They're utter trash. Asus makes the best GPUs. Custom PCBs with overkill VRMs. Hence the premium price. XFX is okay, too, though. Most GPU brands are fine, just not Powercolor.

I use vsync and no longer get stutters or even see micro stutters. But my monitor is Freesync 40fps - 144fps as reported in Adrenalin software. I have herd about something like what you did back in the early days of Ryzen, something to do with a sleep bug I think. Anyway I am rocking a 6900XT in a custom water loop with a 5800X3D. In my opinion any X3D part will give you more performance out of your gpu in most games. To me last gen bargains in gpus is the way to go. They are performant enough to make 95% happy playing their game of choice. Upscaling works on last gen gpus. Take the saved $$ and buy a new monitor even OLED, You will notice that way more than a gpu upgrade.
From my experience the sleep bug had something to do with RAM that is not fully supported on a given setup. I had one of these computers that would not go to sleep. Eventual BIOS update have fixed it (increased compatibility) and now the computer goes to sleep as it should.
I think you need to setup registry editor for CPU and GPU behavior. If Basic settings in power management not works maybe something overdrive the Windows setting. Official or 3th party program for advanced tuning make that job. I personaly use 3th party throtlestop on my intel laptop to set all registry. Power limits, voltage, freqency. There is also adjusting speed how fast its going from low state to maximum frequency which is very usefull for laptop if you have start/stop fan than the temperature rise slower and get time to fan start properly without cpu thermal throtle but for desktop you need to set this to 0. Also iGPU options are there but I didnt investigate.
Nowadays, we value power efficiency a great deal. Not just about raw power like back in the days. Energy costs are too darn high these days that people are willing to underclock and even take a few percent off to cut down their energy bills.
Go do the actual math on your use case for a year.

I figure you have better cooling than I so fair enough.
I chose to undervolt my CPU. In fact I use a preset on the Asrock board ... PBO on, tjmax 85C, all-core curve optimised -30mv.
Now all the cores easily hit its maximum 5050MHz in gaming and multitasking 100% runs at 4925MHz @ 82C.
I don't know what the Max frequency on the 7950X3D CCD with VCache is... is it higher?

Disabling c-states has been basic practice for overclocking since the beginning of ever.
If you're not tinkering or OCing, I wouldn't turn it off.
I have an office pc with a 13700k, 3090 & gtx 1050ti. I like how the Intel cpu (13700k) multitasks. I mine with a 3090, use a gtx 1050ti for video/playback. I cpu mine with the cpu's P-cores and play Batman: Arkham Asylum (older games) at 1440p all high settings locked at 62fps using the cpu's E-cores (I use device manager) and Intel igpu (overclocked to 2000mhz, stock voltage) while playing/listening to a RUclips 1080p video, all with no stutters.
Still a dangerous option I will not take in my rig. I rather not get my own family angry with the power bill spike tbh. Good thing my Ryzen 5 5600G is okay and still operational in stock speeds.
Turning that option off, means your CPU will be running at 100% capacity at all times. It will significantly reduce your CPU lifespan and cause instability. Your CPU needs to enter “rest mode” when it isn’t required to be utilized at full capacity.
On the flip side setting your max CPU speed to 99% in windows will stop the fans spinning up (especially on laptops). It's odd how it saves a decent amount of power (handy in the summer when you don't have aircon).
Works on both AMD and Intel systems.
I believe that is an inherent bug when you overclock your system.
I have to reduce CPU max power limit in windows to 99% or less in order to make the power management kick in and idle the CPU. Any power plan with 100% max limit will run the CPU at 100% when you have overclocked the CPU in the BIOS.
Edit: Windows will power manage and idle the CPU clocks down no problem with 100% max limit set if there are no CPU overclocks set in the BIOS.
It's because your CPU stops boosting above base clock speed
You're trading performance for the power saving. I've seen people recommend this when they're causing over-heating issues by NOT allowing the CPU power scaling default in balanced power mode.

ive done this with a static overclock as well for 5+ years, no issues.
i do disable C-states it prevents CPU cores to idle (sleep) but i still saw 2 core idling below stock Bclock in a 3700x.
But C-states enabled forces more core to idle when not in used (should be fine on most user).
But disabling C-states reduces stuttering.

Try disabling Smart Access Memory (SAM). It resolved my stuttering issues in Warhammer 40k Darktide.
I'm so confused. I saw many RUclipsrs had many tests with SAM on. They are always great. How could that be bad?
@@phongluu1725 There are about 2-3% of games that perform worse with SAM on. AND Darktide is one of the worst optimized games I've ever played. My 5900x + 6700XT 12GB has trouble getting decent framerates in it. And to beat it all, it's barely putting a load on my GPU.

I don't understand why it started shutting down on it's own when playing a game. Changed some stuff in the bios from a google search. I think it got better making sure the power supply cables are in. google says get another power supply.
Under power overclock thing i googled worked the best. Gave me amazing fps.
To much trouble this time. underclock GPU also worked.
Had the problem, it's the power supply. Basically the power supply can't give correct ammount of energy and go bellow or beyond the line tolerance, so the system shutdown to avoid a short circuit. If you have a modular supply, you can try to switch the PCI-E cables, or remove cable extensions if you got one. If it doesn't solve, I highly recommend another power supply as insistence on the current one may damage something.

AMD CPU fTPM is also trash, disable that. Windows doesn't actually need it and it is no more secure. Creates stutters in games, also beware when you disable it, windows password will be wrong and you will need to reset it.
I was thinking hyper(multi)threading or C-states, these are 2 out of 5 parameters I track even in saved BIOS profile names, the rest being number of active cores, max freq and voltage.

And in my experience turning c states off has barely any impact on the cpu's temperature, maybe a few degrees more at idle but that's it. So not any added noise or dust due to higher fan speed, and barely any increase in GPU temp.
As for the lifespan of the cpu, I run it at a fixed vcore of 1.36v 24/7 as I have always done with my previous cpus without any issue. From what I read, what kills cpus are temperature and voltage but under load. Under load, c states are disabled anyway.

It lowers the average FPS from what your graphs showed though so there is a tradeoff.
You end up with more consistency in the frames. Instead of having a large parabola, you have a tiny blip. I see it being especially useful for competitive games where any little slip up can hurt your game.
My PC was freezing randomly with no signal on the screen. Event Viewer showed critical error ID 41 source kernel power. Someone said disabling global c state is the solution. Is this actually going to be the solution?

@@shadafridi at first the freezes occurred after longer periods of time. And now they have stopped altogether for some reason. I disabled and enabled it a few times. ID 41 is no clear error code it just means the system had an unexpected shutdown. Idk if this is what fixed it but it's been a few weeks and my system hasn't frozen like that again.

What about low fps games like Microsoft Flight Simulator? I get on average 33-43 fps. (Monitor is Samsung G5 34 inch with Freesync Premium 165hz and GPU is Super 1660).

By any chance is your setup freezing the 1st game for The Finals? I have a very similar setup 7950x3D/4090 on Windows 10 and the 1st game is ALWAYS freezing for 30-45secs but after that it's smooth up until I turn it off and back on. I have Updated GPU drivers (And went back 4 versions), updated CPU drivers, updated bios, tried command lines in steam, validated filed for game, reinstalled game, used both power saving and full performance mode, disabled C-state, and tried using process lasso.
Pretty normal bro. Its a unreal engine game so the first game is always laggy. Just like most unreal engine games

Literally what? ReBAR doesn’t harm performance. Newer Nvidia cards get boosts from it, and Intel ARC requires it on for maximum performance.

They then whitelist specific games that are allowed to use it, look it up! The user cannot manually whitelist games. It has to be done by the driver vendor because ReBAR causes so many problems.
