WHAT WE EXAMINED
We tested 10 silicone spatulas, rating them on their ability to stir, scrape, and fold a wide variety of foods. We also evaluated their compatibility with our favorite pots and pans, mixing bowls, food processor, and stand mixers. A panel of testers evaluated them on general comfort and ease of use. We also rated them on heat resistance and ease of cleanup.
We put each spatula through a gauntlet of tests in a wide range of kitchen equipment and using a diverse group of testers (short and tall, lefty and righty).
FOLDING
1. Fold whipped egg whites into cake batter in large mixing bowl.
2. Fold fruit puree into whipped cream in stand mixer bowl.

4. Stir scrambled eggs in 10-inch nonstick skillet.
5. Stir onions in 4-quart saucepan.
6. Stir risotto in 4-quart saucepan.
7. Stir chopped carrots in Dutch oven.
SCRAPING
8. Scrape scrambled eggs from pan without breaking up curds.
9. Scrape fond from 12-inch traditional skillet.
VERSATILITY
10. Scrape honey from measuring cup and small mixing bowl.
DURABILITY
11. Rest in 450-degree cast-iron skillet for 10 minutes.
12. Scrape processor bowl with blade in place; check for cuts.
CLEANUP
13. Submerge in warm tomato sauce, minced garlic, and curry powder for 2 hours; wash.*
14. Wash 35 times in dishwasher or 35 times by hand if not dishwasher-safe.

I bought the Di Oro spatula after watching this, and I’ve never looked back. America’s Test Kitchen gets it right every time.
At least you now know they are legit. We don't have that sort of pleasure in my home country.
Deb B how do you feel about using a black spatula? I haven’t gotten it because I can’t see things on black (I uses white , wood or light colors so far). Am I alone?
Ziggy3339
They make a red spatula
@@ziggy33399 It comes in a variety of colors - although at a slightly higher price. I just checked Amazon today and I'm going ahead with the black one - maybe I'll not be thrilled with the color, in which case, I'll buy one in a different color. :-)
I just now purchased the red one...
Lisa McManus simply does the best job on reviewing and explaining the pros and cons of kitchen items. Please continue and support this direct non cutesy format!
For some reason I love this woman more then any other host on this show.
I like this gal too. Easy to understand & just seems like-able.
Yes, she's great.

Came here not knowing anything about spatulas and leaving here like a haughty upperclass spatula elitist and knowing that I will unfairly judge the next poor spatula I come across. What have I become.
Embrace it, you adorable, insufferable, culinary hipster. Who needs lovers or friends when you have something more reliable and profound - a $40.00 Di Oro Living Seamless Spatula! ;)
You mean $12.
Informed. You have become informed.
Same lol. I had found a set of 4 silicone spatulas that i liked then i came to watch this video before i purchased them and now I view them with the highest suspicion. Must buy the di oro now to ensure my spatulas are up to par!
I too became the spatula elitist. So much so that I actually bought the Di Oro. 'I do enough cooking, right?' Or so I told myself.
I've been using it for about 3 months, and I'm never going back to another spatula again. I feel like Spongebob every time I pick it up.
This has to be one of my favourite segment of the show, I love how thoroughly you tested the kitchenware and I now consult ATK before I buy anymore kitchen gadget, albeit that some of the gadgets are not available in Australia, but thank goodness for Amazon!
I can't get them from Amazon. Says they don't ship to Australia. Disappointing I think they look good.
Dianne Fitzsimmons I just checked on Amazon, the Di Oro silicone spatula ships to Sydney, you can try a different seller.
I'll try again. I could only find di oro living selling them. Thank you.
This has got to be one of the nerdiest kitchen channel, and I love it!
I don't even cook and I want to buy that spatula
ahhhahaha
me too
I use a silicone spatula for pretty much everything....
This is how a review should be done. Thanks!
Absolutely love this series because I no longer need to think I can just put in an order for the winner and know I'll be happy w it. Thanks sooooooo much!!!!
maybe i'm weird - maybe it's just that i'm a design engineer - but i had this nagging thought for weeks on what the best silicone spatula was because I don't currently have one, could have use one multiple times, but am so sick of buying crappy things i never got one at the store. I didn't bother looking it up because i thought i'd only find "amazon top 10 sellers" lists. goddamn, this video is amazing. you're now maybe the fifth channel i've suscribed to after 13 years of youtubing.
Thank you!!! As one who owns only two piece spatulas, it’s nice to see a winner. I’ve been so disgusted with the gunk that appears inside my spatula handle when I go to clean it. I wouldn’t mind spending more money for a one piece that was durable. And you have shown me that!
To save time... Amazon should just automatically ship item to me after watching video.
I almost fell victim to the same fate today. Watched it. Went to Amazon. Put said item in my cart...sanity made me wait. Saw it just now and said, "Why am I buying this? I don't need it." But I did buy the mandoline. That I needed. :-)
Lol I agree!
@@terrijuanette486 stop buying up all the coking equipment on amazon i need to buy some too :(
Who needs stupid Amazon Prime? We need Amazon NOW! Right NOW! Send us even before we need it! Use AI to figure out!
Auto shipment ! I like it. Sign me up too. Don't give them any ideas. They will charge us another yearly fee. LOL
wtf is this shit? an actual thought full review full that coloured legitimately all the basis and scenarios, then checked them over again to ensure they were accurate? unheard of. well done.
This is fantastic. I've been looking for a better silicon spatula, and you guys found it for me!
I bought that spatula almost two years ago and I agree. It’s my favorite one to use out of an array I own. I use it to feed my sourdough starter which is thick and requires some vigorous mixing and also use it for gently mixing my fluffy pancake batter. It’s everything they said it would be. I LOVE ATK
I just love them to bits. They truly test for things we ALL want to see tested & evaluated thoroughly.
I love the way you think through every angle! Thanks for sharing 😁
I just landed on ur channel with the Dutch oven reviews and I already watched like may be 10 videos , such informative and Lisa the way u explain it takes it all .. thank you for all these videos , please do come up with some bakeware reviews too
Thank you, you have found the perfect spatula for me! I can't wait to buy one!
I happen to love the Le Creuset spatula you had sitting there, but didn’t discuss. It does have some drawbacks, but I love that it’s almost a spoon.
I love your reviews Lisa! Thank you!
Perfect timing for me to come across this review. I'm in need of a spatula. Thanks for the tip.
Thank you. I recently had a silicon spatula melt on me, it was a yr old and shocked me because I'd never seen that before , I also had a 6 month old Pyrex dish explode in my new oven , I thought a bomb exploded . I love these test type videos xox
Bought this after reading about it in Cooks Illustrated. It was part of a deal of 3 di Oro silicone spatulas in Prime Day. LOVE IT! Use it all the time!
Wow, I'm amazed at the degree of tests that were done. It's awesome!
After watching this video for the first time, I ordered one of the winning spatulas. I've got to say, it really is one of my most used tools in the kitchen. Even went so far as to purchase two more!
Yass! I just bought a set of these before watching this video based on reviews and am so happy to see this, they are perfect!!
Awesome video, I was just about to replace my original pampered chef classic scraper before I found your video. Thank you for the thorough and helpful advice! ❤️America's Test Kitchen!
These reviews are so awesome and thought out... well done!
Wow, that is the most thorough review I've seen. Thank you.
My grandma used steel & wooden spatulas for so many years until they were stained & lost their shine but the food she cooked were just awesome.
Love the review. I've got a couple of the cheap plastic spatulas that has the handle that inserts into the head like a popsicle stick. Each time I use them, I take them apart and run them through the dishwasher in the silverware basket with the opening facing down so the food gets cleaned out, water drains out, and mold and bacteria doesn't start to form. Definitely adding your winner to my wish list.
i love your stuff, keep up the good work !
good review and information. Used to buy new spatulas.
We concur with your review. Well done!
Lisa , I bought a set of 4 similar to the brand you picked here and they are called " Up Good "
It came with 4 spatulas and they work perfectly and haven't stained or been flimsy since I've had them for the last year. They cost $17 on Amazon
First off. Thank You. This has to be one of the best review/recommend videos I seen. No blah blah blah. B.S Just straight to the point. Test Parameter-Goal-Performance-Outcome. No matter the product, this Should be textbook 101 Anybody out there making review videos could learn a lot from this one. Great Job...
Thanks, ATK...
I've FINALLY gotten around to purchasing a new spatula!
I really appreciate all of the testing . Thank you very much.
As a baker, I'd also like to highly recommend the spatulas at Sur La Table as I've used them in cooking and baking as well. They were only $3 on Clearance and seem very similar to the Di Oror, though I'm going to check out this brand as well.
THANK YOU! Much needed. Tired of pulling apart tools to clean the empty slot and reassemble after they've dried.
Brought Di Oro from Walmart, delivered, love them! Thanks,
These videos are so satisfying to watch. Subscribed
Love this Chanel, I got a 26 piece set and it’s all silicone. They talk about all the things I think, and a lot that I don’t!! Different make but the characteristics are the what’s makes it a winner.
I've used Di Oro for the past few years, by far the best. Even with high heat I haven't had a single issue of melting or deforming, any other silicone spatula I've used had that issue. It's important to know though that as a "spatula" it's not perfect for flipping things, they don't have a flat thin surface; so I still like traditional style spatulas for more delicate work; but these still cover 95% of tasks. Di Oro is commonly sold in a variety pack of 3, I use the smallest one nearly every day.
I bought the di oro set after watching this. I have never had any kitchen tool or implement that was so clearly superior to others. It is significantly better in every way to all other spatulars I have ever used.
This is another ATK item that's spot on. Amazon still sells this item and I highly recommend getting the 4-piece set. All of mine are still in great shape after using them for a couple years now.
Uh, do you by any chance know how this compares to the well-rated orange-colored 4-piece set by M Kitchen World? I'm seeking the best value set which can (1) get mayo out of a mayo jar or narrower (2) fry patties etc. and flip them over (3) scrape a batter bowl.
@@minniyoutubaster I can't imagine anything better, they really are that good.
@@ArkansasBadBoy I think you meant to say 3-piece, since i don't see a Di Oro 4-piece set. What i'd really like to see, is a patient, clear, hands-on demo of the 4-piece M Kitchen World, side by side with the 3-piece Di Oro. Because =both= brands had complaints on Amazon about stiffness (i.e. not scraping cleanly), and so forth. I know =exactly= what they mean, because my dollar Walmart (Mainstays) spatula from years ago scrapes cleanly every time, and it's good-quality food-grade silicone, rated to 500temp. By comparison, i've another one which is a dead ringer of the Mainstays one, albeit it's stiffer and less smooth-textured and less of a "rubbery-grip".
@@minniyoutubaster they absolutely sell a 4 piece set because, as stated, I bought and have all 4 pieces. I don't know what more to tell you. If you can't afford the $33.00 to order it and try them for yourself then so be it. How about you move on and waste someone else's time ?
Great testing and review.
Next to the di oro is the oxo i purchased at home goods for 2 dollars. Same shape and length it appears. I'm tempted to purchase adi oro but at 12.95, it seems unnecessary.
Great video, super helpful for so many people no doubt! I use silicone spatulas allll the time in patisserie - my favourite pink one probably features far too much on my videos 👩🏻🍳🎂🍡🍬
I actually need one, thank you!
thanks again for great, in depth and free information
For me I like the look and feel of the Cuisinart Barrel Handle Silicone Spatula. It performs well along with the other kitchen tools that came in a set.
I would love a review of basting and/or pastry brushes. I bought a dud and not sure which direction to go from here. Love your videos!
Excellent video n every frame of it just clarifies all doubts. Point explanation no bias feature. They examine products on all possible parameters coming to ones mind what if .... sort. Thanks for such an informative video. 👌👍👏👏💝💝
Love this channel and the hostess. She is great. Please keep it up . Thanks

I bought a silicone spatula from walmart about 4 years ago and I use it all the time. I nicked it once because I use it while the blender was running (stupid) but it's perfectly flexible, doesn't have that annoying rectangle thing where food gets stuck, and it's never melted even in boiling soup.
I LOVE my silicone spatulas. Pampered Chef has the best I have used. Pricey, but worth it. Bought mine, 1, at a time.
Worked well, for me.
these silicone floppy sharp edge ones are a must for gently turning vegan chickpea flour scrambled eggs, the powder hardens flakes and sticks when not wiped and non stick oil sprayed in between each flip=stir side, its good at taking just 1 pass to squeegee clear the surface
I have owned the Di Oro and various others, BUT that Volrath spatula you tested is my absolute favorite. I have two in active use and four more in storage waiting literal years for one to go out.
I am curious to hear what you didn’t enjoy about it. It’s my absolute favorite.
Thermoworks has a nice spatula, too. Comes in two sizes and in a spoon-like and spatula design.

I luv Lisa McManus' diligence! the winnner, does it come in other colors to know if it really didnt stain?
Pro-Tip to folks out there on an even cheaper budget--Dollarama (Canada) has a betty crocker silicone spatula. It has been FANTASTIC. Firm enough, flexible end, all one piece silicon never melted.
It didn't last forever--probably about 2 years of heavy heavy use--and I think I was using it on a very stiff dough when I finally broke it. But amazing for the money, way better than a $20 cuisinart I've bought before.
I don't cook, but I love watching these videos, for some reason! 😛😝
THIS IS REVIEW.
DIRECT TO THE POINT.
AMAZING VIDEO :)
I love the many tests, it feels so satisfying watching it! ))
Thank you guys so much!
Love your reviews
I find that even silicone spatulas that start out nice and firm can become much less so after several weeks of use. I don't know if it's the gentle flexing or the repeated heating (or some combination) that does it. But I'd be interested if this preferred spatula retained its strength over a couple of months.

love these spatulas
I bought this spatula three years ago because of this recommendation. It's just OK.
Many of my old spatulas, like some you tested, have heads that come off. If you don’t remove the heads before washing, they get very nasty in the crevices. It’s another reason to buy the one piece spatulas.
The Food Network brand spatulas at Kohl’s are great. I don’t recommend all Food Network brand items, but the spatulas and curved spatulas are really great.
I wonder if you tested the Williams Sonoma all silicone set in white? I like it for the color. I wonder how it measures up?
No word about Le Creuset (with the wood handle)? Is it good enough?
Thanks for through review!
I was just looking at replacing my Spatula as I broke mine :(

It would be nice to see what the best spatula is for a vitamix
Any comments on the winning Large Spatula you chose? I see it listed but not discussed. Buying the All-Purpose one right now. You can never have enough of these on hand.
I Love You Guy's. I have the same pet peeves, when cooking, and I giggle, when You say show Us something, like, when the spatula gets cut on the food processer blades. You Guy's (I mean, the all inclusive, Guy's, Men and Women) are so thorough! Excellent demonstration! Concise. To the point. Have another cup of coffee and tell Us more.

Will you guys do spatula turners. I am learning to make omlettes but my roommate (a trained chef) says my equipment is crap.
Does anyone know any downsides to the le creuset spatula? I'm thinking of buying one
Is this spatula heat resistant? And can I use it on a non stick pan? I wanted to know because I heard you shouldn't use metal on a non stick pan.
There are some spatulas that look like the exact same design from U Taste and GIR (Get It Right). Were these among the reviewed ones here?
Hi, I am looking for a silicone spatula for my Vitamix. Any suggestions? I am looking for something to get under they blades for sticky things like nut butters. I know Vitamix sell one with a right angled end in the US but I can’t find it here in the UK.
Please make a video about the best soy bean curd!
What do you guys do with all of the food you cooked for the tests?
That design is great compared to my old spatula.
You should try Thermoworks spatulas!!
It's Saturday night and I'm here, lead by my sub par spatula malaise.
JA henckels spatula is one of the best at scraping up cream.
I miss the very flexible rubber spatulas of the past. Best things for scraping out bowls, measuring cups, jars, etc.. I also miss the thin metal spatulas we had for cooking. In general a tool designed to do the task is better than one that is designed to try to do too many things. I use a heavy wooden spoon to mix in the nuts or chocolate chips into thick cookie doughs. Works great.
