Thanks Marc for checking in!
great shoot out
Thanks Todd.
Awesome My brother Well done
Thanks
Great video.sir... you are right some the cheaper ones are simply not going to cut it when you really need them...i.find.the same.issue with cheaper ferro rods...
One has to watch out. It's buyer beware out there.
Brought back memories of when I was 11 yrs old and got a Coleman firestarter from Big 5. I lost the mag bar long ago but still have the ferro rod somewhere in my room. Ha I'm 29 yrs old now.
Nice upload brother wingman! Keep em coming.
I'm glad we could take a drive down memory lane brother! Thanks for checking in.
good stuff. I think think we can't doams up here, but might have to get some familty to smuggle up the good stuff.
No Doan Bars in Canada! Jim it's time to move.... LOL Thanks for watching.
Ah funny! I just recorded a video on mag bars yesterday. My video was a little different but this was a really interesting comparison. Thanks Wingman!
I have spies in the Patriot command bunker! LOL Looking forward to your video brother! Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks for the info Wingman! ;-)
Cheers Brother!
I wouldn't have thought there would be a big difference but you helped me not waste 3 dollars haha thank you for your videos wingman ... Keep them coming!
Will do.
Magnesium Bar Fire Starter Shoot Out.
5 extra bucks for something that actually works. Sounds like the Doan's is the real bargain here. Great comparism, John. I have never really been a fan of mag bars but maybe I just never had a good one. Now fatwood...
Fatwood is the Holy Grail of fire starters.
good side by side its the doans for me
Thanks Jerry.
Thanks wingman! Last thing we need to see is one of the HF ones next to a pile of bones
LOL.. Sad but true.
Great video bro, like they say,you get what you pay for.
True with most things in life.. Thanks for stopping by Kip.
Love the "shoot-outs" Wingman! God bless!
Thanks Joe.
Agreed! don't waste your money on anything else, just get a Doans bar.
Its a great product.
My HF mag bar isn't dark like yours. It's also not oily or sticky. But like yours it is really hard to fire up and when it does it doesn't last long. Also, after you scrape off the first 1/8 inch of mag, it gets REALLY hard to scrap off any more mag. BTW, the ferro rod sparks a lot better if you scrape it with the serrated side instead of the straight side.
Just purchase a Doan's and call it a day. Thanks for watching.
Yeah, except I don't like feeling fleeced. I think 9-11 for a consumable product like that is a fleecing. I'll just look into other fire starting methods. Mag bars aren't all their cracked up to be anyway.
Great Video! Apologies for the intrusion, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you tried - Proutklarton Helping Firestarter Plan (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is an awesome one off guide for getting a $15 optic fire starter for free without the normal expense. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my m8 got cool results with it.
Try placing a few drops of water near the pile, after lighting it move the burning pile into the water.
I wish I had seen your video about 6 months ago, when I purchased 10 of the Harbor Freight magnesium paperweights. You are correct, they are worthless.
Thanks for watching.
Good review. I've never seen this comparison before. (I bought a HF mag bar once and had the same thought). I never buy anything made in China with which I might have to trust my life. A suggestion: if you carry a magnesium bar as your primary fire starter, carry with it an extra ferro rod. The rod on the mag bar will wear out long before the magnesium is used up. Also, a small piece of flint will make more sparks from a ferro rod with less pressure.
Great comment thanks.
I just tried the HF bar and indeed - the magnesium won't light. I used a file to make very fine flakes. They still wouldn't light even using the Doan firesteel sparking insert. Ten thumbs down to the HF imposter product.
Just an observation but I wonder if HF changed the batch? I've got a mag bar I bought at HF about 4 years ago and it looks a LOT more bright and silvery than the one you showed, yours looks almost dark grey.
That could be a real issue there if they keep changing the mix... I would hate to rely on it and it not perform...
***** Very true! I guess it'd be better than nothing but usually if you buy something you expect it to perform. I was actually on Amazon earlier and saw a 3 pack mag bar set from "The Friendly Swede" and I've been wondering if its any good or not. You haven't by any chance used that brand have you?
I haven't I will have to look into it.
looking at the bar colors the harbor freight bar is darker did they use a metal additive to save cost and lower the actual amount of magnesium in it?
Not sure but it was really sticky....
yea ive had nothing but problems with harbor freight tools /equipment ! bout the only thing i get from there now is smalls like terminals ,zipties and a few other little items that are decent!
You've got a fake expensive magnesium bar there. That's not even how magnesium burns, that little pile should all go up in a few seconds, and completely burn without the need to shift it all around.
He like the donns but that suck lol
lol i give harbor freight a thumbs down on most of there shit! they have very few decent items!
Americans always trying to prove spending more is better.
Haters going to hate
harbor freight worked fine for me
Thanks for watching.
Worked well for me as well. Maybe a bad batch or something
