Darth Vader Death Star - Star Wars VI Return of the Jedi

- Star Wars is an American epic space opera multimedia franchise created by George Lucas, which began with the eponymous 1977 film[b] and quickly became a worldwide pop-culture phenomenon. The franchise has been expanded into various films and other media, including television series, video games, novels, comic books, theme park attractions, and themed areas, comprising an all-encompassing fictional universe. In 2020, its total value was estimated at US$70 billion, and it is currently the fifth-highest-grossing media franchise of all time.
The original film (Star Wars), retroactively subtitled Episode IV: A New Hope (1977), was followed by the sequels Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983), forming the original Star Wars trilogy. Lucas later returned to filmmaking to direct a prequel trilogy, consisting of Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999), Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002), and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005). In 2012, Lucas sold his production company to Disney, relinquishing his ownership of the franchise. This led to a sequel trilogy, consisting of Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015), Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017), and Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (2019).
All nine films of the "Skywalker saga" were nominated for Academy Awards, with wins going to the first two releases. Together with the theatrical live action "anthology" films Rogue One (2016) and Solo (2018), the combined box office revenue of the films equated to over US$10 billion, which makes it the second-highest-grossing film franchise of all time.[3][4] An additional film, Rogue Squadron, is planned for release. A number of other films, including an independent trilogy, are suggested to be in development. (From Wikipidia)
" The Emperor is not as forgiving as I am ". Vader did have a dark sense of humour.
Is even more sinister if you interpret it as him being completely sincere
Episode V: “ Apology accepted Captain Needa” 😝 I love Anakin/Vader’s humor.
Well electrocution is far more painful than choking.
I have his voice overlay on my GPS. He says the exact same thing after admonishing me to stay focused on the journey. 😂
When Vader is the executioner, the prisoner will beg for forgiveness and to be spared. When Palpatine is doing the executing, you can only beg to be killed mercifully. Big big difference!
You know the crazy thing? When he said “the emperor is not as forgiving as I am” Vader was being 100% sincere
Vader is not that bad he killed Needa and Ozel because they were incompetent idiots he respected good officers like Tarkin or Piett he also respected soldiers before he become Vader in Clone Wars one of clones said something like "General Skywalker is always leading his men up front "and after he become Vader he still leading them you can see this in Rogue One or during attack on Hoth in ESB
The Emperor is certainly more sadistic.
"The emperor does not share your optimistic appraisal of the situation..."
Vader always had the best lines.
Yep so true.
Does: Nooooooooo! count as a good line? Oh yeah, that was still the wimp ass Anakin talking.
As a project manager irl, I too hope to one day utter the sentence: "you may dispense with the pleasantries, I'm here to put you back on schedule" Too bad i'm more of a light side kind of guy: "hey how's it going, do you need any help?"
Until this point in the saga, the Emperor was only mentioned in passing. For a big bad, we always saw Vader as the seemingly unbeatable obstacle to overcome, someone who had no qualms sacrificing ships and killing his own men. But Vader telling us that the Emperor was worse than him? That got your imagination running wild.
We did see a hologram of him in ESB, but the fact that he was actually going to show up in person was still a huge deal.
frostyguy1989 perhaps knowing you are the GOD of the bible & everything you believe true is a fiction. What is evil is good what is good is evil. Everything you imagined is attempting to manifest, simply because you imagined it , then forgot that you had. The earth is flat & infinite the human body is a projection but we look nothing like what we imagine that is simply a result of the psychological rape that has taken place by one to another. You are infinite wisdom power & majesty, dearth Vader & the emperor are pimples on an insects posterior. Ever notice how all 3 Starwars films from the original series open with a star destroyer coming onto the scene
Classic opening
But that wasn't a command ship though I thought that was Darth Vader's Star destroyer the command ship.
Repeated in Revenge of the Sith and The Force Awakens. Someone forgot to tell Johnson for TLJ
star wars did not.

Nope!
“You may dispense with the pleasantries, Commander. I’m here to put you back ok schedule.” I love how this is delivered.
Me too, he doesn't give a shit about observing the niceties
When Lord Vader tells you to get this Shit done because HIS BOSS IS COMING! OOOH WEEE! Now that's a deadline!
🤣😂🤣 So true...
Oh hell yea. Vader is feared but pissing the emperor off is enough to freeze your soul
Sir yes sir
Ok mr poopy face butthole
Yes...the Emperor is not nearly as forgiving as Lord Vader.
I love the performance of the actor playing the officer. His fear is palpable, while he stays proffesional and does his best to hide it.
British stage actors can sell any emotion, and usually much better than better known American actors
@@jemert96 I wouldn't go that far, James Earl Jones is really amazing in his body language and facial expressions, able to convey a lot without saying even a word.
Sadly not something we get to see in him voicing Darth Vader, but every time I watch Conan the Barbarian again, I notice something new about his Thulsa Doom.
Like the slightest twinge of fear when Conan comes to him with sword in hand, before growing increasingly confident about being able to talk his way out of it.
Models still look good even after this long. I miss real special effects .

Same here, and 100th like.
I miss creativity, and character development, and depth of character interaction, and *LOTS* of other stuff!! It's too late now...
56 seconds, 1 minute and 4 seconds, 1 minute 15 seconds we're all paintings. Not models.
Whats worse is that it's becoming a lost art :(
I've always been mesmerized by Vader's ultra shiny ass helmet. It was so dusty and worn in the first two movies. This dude went and took his shit to the best helmet shining shop in the Empire after Luke rejected him.
Charles Ewing I always thought after he found out Luke was his son. He thought that perhaps Padme was alive and began polishing his helmet every night in preparation.
The “oh, crap” moment: “The Emperor is coming _here?”_ You _know_ Vader had to be smiling behind his mask.
Funny thing? Most likely he wasn't. As 'evil' as Vader due to the dark side was, he cared for his men, and he cared for talent. He did not downright kill the commander, as he understood the direness of the situation. He gave the crew of the new Death Star a chance - which is more than you could attribute to a LOT of sith.
When a bad day at work, just gets a LOT worse...
it happens: we were having a crap/stressful as hell day some weeks ago and then BANG! "surprise!", the ACTUAL OWNER of the company appeared out of nowhere asking for some nonsense that obviously was too important (not) and had to be done asap.
@@jjrj8568 agreed!!! It happens at walmart
If Vader says he's more forgiving than the emperor ,you know you're in for a world of hurt!
The buildup, the music, the visuals, pacing & voice acting/editing of Vader is all just incredible and brilliant.
"The Emperor is not as forgiving as I am." That was very encouraging from Lord Vader indeed.
I love how they create a sense of the scale of the Death Star. They didn't have the budget to create a really huge hangar set, so they have a couple of matte paintings that show that the hangar Vader lands in is actually relatively small compared to the ones around it.
“Perhaps I can find new ways to MOTIVATE them.” Whoever said Lord Vader lacked a sense of humor? 😎
He was always low-key savage even before he became Vader.
Nobody?
After the brief meeting with Darth Vader, the commander went back to his room to make sure his will was up to date and finished the letter to his family.
After all these years, this is still my favorite opening in the entire saga. Probably even my favorite out of all movies. I love ROTJ.
Back then James Earl Jones was young and, like Vader, his voice was thunderous and powerful. The power in his now iconic voice has waned over the decades but we are so very fortunate he is still with us to have voiced the most recent tie-in to the original trilogy. Many of the people we've come to know so well who are associated with this long-lived franchise are already gone or won't be with us much longer and it's been a privilege and an honor to have lived in their time.
@Galen Joyce That was the only point of my post, that he's 88 years old right now and as much of a "bad guy" as Darth Vader has always been, everybody loves, Loves, LOVES this character and we as fans have been so fortunate to hear this man's iconic voice once again (now 3 years ago). I think we've all heard people's best imitation of Vader and even the very best fall short of the then 85 year-old version of the real deal.
@Galen Joyce I could sense a waning in the voice in Rogue One, but thats nature, it will happen to us all; and its still great having him still do Vader to this day.
Imperial commander: “We shall double our efforts”
Vader: “I don’t know about that. Maybe 10-15% is enough”

@Myrm Ants yeah and when the big boss notice little things like "....why do l always smell paint".
That's your boss's expression when his boss gives him the "I'll stop by tomorrow to check out the progress" at the end of the conference call
Technically Vader is nice. He just kills you if you mess up. The Emperor would make an example out of you in horrendous and inhuman ways.
In Legends, look what he did to the lead Death Star design engineer after its destruction.
@@Zoloft77 It's horrible....
@@i39darkbladeIn Legends, when Bevel Lemelisk was finally captured by the New Republic, his only demand (knowing his crimes altogether) was that during his execution to "please, do it right!"
Nothing like executing you in a painful fashion and at the moment of death transferring your consciousness into a clone. If you failed again he would find another more painful method of execution and repeat.
Vader held on to a shred of integrity; the Emperor was a full-on member of the galactic "LGBT community."
I have a specific memory with this scene. When I was about 3 or 4, my parents put me and my sister to bed one night, and they showed us the VHS copy of Return of the Jedi and said we'd watch it soon. Of course we'd seen A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back by that point, and they wanted to preview Jedi before showing it to us kids.
Then after we were in bed for a few minutes, we had a fan on in our bedroom to go to sleep to, but I could hear the Star Wars theme from the living room over the fan. I knew it was the next movie, and I just couldn't stay away, so I slipped out of bed and crept to the doorway of the living room. By the doorway was a large cushioned armchair, so I crouched down behind the chair and watched this first scene. I was well out of range of my parents seeing me, since they were on the couch at the other side of the room, and the room was dimly lit by the TV screen, so I felt safe from being spotted out of bed.
As I watched this scene, I was all hyped up by the theme, and of course Vader ominously stepping down the ramp amidst all the white smoke. As he talked with the commander, I remember something inside me jolted at hearing the Emperor first mentioned, in that line, "The Emperor does not share your optimistic appraisal of the situation." I thought, there's a new bad guy we're being introduced to? Is there really another villain scarier than Vader in this story? (And by this point, I had completely forgotten about Clive Revill's Emperor in Empire, and he was only mentioned once in A New Hope, so, you know, not a whole lot to remember about him before this point. LOL) Of course, I didn't know who the Emperor was, but since Vader mentioned him and spoke of him in such a position of higher power, I just knew he was bad news, especially when Vader ended with telling the commander, "The Emperor is not as forgiving as I am." Well, Vader wasn't very forgiving of anyone, so yeah, the Emperor definitely sounded worse. LOL Then after this scene, and I saw the beginning of the next scene with C-3PO and R2-D2 on Tatooine, I decided I didn't want to spoil myself any more, or chance my parents catching me out of bed if I stayed out for too long, so I got up and crept back to bed. I went to sleep with excited anticipation for when my family and I would watch it together. :D
A priceless memory.

Ken Hernandez Yep, the new films are really boring
Tak zgadza się.... Coś pięknego...
Agreed. The prequel trilogy was okay but not as good as the original. "The Force Awakens" was so terrible that I never watched any of the following movies. I never trusted Disney to handle Star Wars correctly.
I really think it’s because they focused on the classic archetypes. All the new films get it wrong because there’s no myth involved, imho.

That musical cue as the shuttles ramp is about to be lowered along with the look of sheer dread on the Imperial officers face is spine-tingling! There's a tiny pause but it creates so much unease n tension. Then Vader descends the ramp as if out of Hell with all the steam/smoke rising. It's almost dreamlike n nightmarish together! Then its like we're back in reality! This film has so many transcendent moments. Its criminally underrated sometimes! The music, sound effects, special effects, set, direction n acting in this scene is perfect. Even the costume designs still look awesome. One of THE best entrances EVER. SW opera! : )

But notice how his helmet grows more and more dull over the course of the movie. I always thought it was an intentional effect to demonstrate a sort of haggard fatherly weariness due to the inner conflict he suffered because of Luke.
this is the best sound I’ve heard from Vader compared to the other films... deep, booming, and menacing.

To this day, Vader amazes me. The design of his mask does not allow for actual expression, but you can clearly feel EXACTLY what is going through his mind as he speaks. Crazy.
In ROTJ when Vader saved Luke and picked up the Emperor and threw him down that Reactor the Standing Ovation he received from the Audience still lingers in my mind to this day the Roof nearly came off the Building as everyone cheered for Vader and I have seen many movies in the Theaters since 1983 and I have not seen a reaction to a movie character like that since.

This was the first Star Wars movie I saw in the theater as a kid (I saw the original trilogy backwards sadly) and all I could remember at 7 years old was how amazing the music sounded. John Williams gave me an early appreciation of music that only Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer we’re able to match as I got older.

As cool as Vader is, he wasn't lying about the Emperor. He was giving Moff Tiaan Jerjerrod a real warning. Vader can kick ass and slaughter massively outclassed infantry and brutalise his underlings, but the Emperor made that an art form.
The Emperor was just on another level of barbaric and sadistic. Vader was angry and hateful to failures in his officers, and he'd have zero qualms in instantly snapping the neck of any Stormtrooper or even officer whom saw him without his mask on. They might have been perfectly fine and dandy prior to the trooper accidentally seeing Vader that way - but Vader would just kill them anyway. There are points where Vader seems pretty caring about his troops, even if it might not look that way.
Palpatine never had much concern if any for any of the billions of troops that served him in either the Republic or the Empire.
Quite frankly, the extent to which the Emperor would overshadow Vader is vast. Just look at the Throne Room scene in ROTJ. Vader is demonstrated to be nothing other than the greatest victim of the Emperor, the biggest slave of all.
