    Just to be clear, I don’t recommend trying this. I had at least trained for a half Ironman that happened about 5 months prior to this event so I wasn’t starting from zero. I could’ve stopped this event when I experienced pain but my wife is a doctor of physical therapy and was running with me. She did an evaluation during this race so we knew it was planter fasciitis and I was okay to continue. Also prior to this I’ve had heart tests and regular doctor physicals and was all good there. Always check with your doctor before attempting or increasing intense exercise like this.

      Thank you for this disclaimer. I had pains during a marathon at like one mile, broke both my legs at mile 18 and then mile 24 from stress fractures to fractures and a tendon snapped off from having all that limping weight on it for so long. Listen to your body!!!

    Im a cross country and track athlete with planter fasciitis and it has been the bane of my existence, props for pushing through the pain because it hurts like hell

      My best cure for things like this is running barefoot, and then running on your toes, only letting your heel tap the floor if needed, sort of like a shortened deer leg. Does wonders for stretching and strengthening the foot

      I really don’t get it what’s funny? This is coming from a cross country and track athlete and I have no idea what’s funny about sighting up for something with 0 dedication for it and then posting it on RUclips to allow people to suck up to you.

    Guys do not attempt what she’s doing. It has the potential to be fatal and you may not know you’re in danger for up to 48 hrs after running a marathon without training.

      My dad does loads of marathons but in October last yr he did his on his best time 3 hrs 47 mins 31 secs and he had a really bad foot pain after that now it’s march and it still hasn’t gone away for everone who is reading this please be careful doing marathons

    I'm glad she explained she didn't start from total scratch because there is zero reason to do this unprepared unless you'd like a nice injury or five. My feet/knees/hips hurt for anyone going that far with no preparation😮

      @@shtinkyboy8674 yeah lol he ran from Marathon ( a place, which is why it’s called a marathon ) to Athens and that’s the exact distance he ran which is why it’s basically an arbitrary number. He actually ran more than that before leaving from Marathon to Athens, but we don’t count that I guess. And he ran the whole way there to deliver the news that the battle was over, and then he promptly died 😅
      Edit: his name was Pheidippides and that’s how I used to remember how to say “mail” in Spanish because correr is to run and Pheidippides ran to deliver the news and so mail is correo 😂

      My feet and legs hurt from thinking about the few times I ran a 10k with too little preparation. That's when I realised: never do a half with this little preparation..😂
      I'll do my first half in October this year so need to make sure I don't fall off the bandwagon this time or it would be a loss of money lol.

      ​​​​@@Expressmel1 I'd say the same to flat chested people though, literally no one should do it unprepared because it's an impact on everyone's body.. No one's legs are used to it without training, underweight or overweight.
      I am flat chested and did a 5k and 10k race unprepared few times. The muscle soreness and pains in my legs were already awful for at least a week. It wasn't the most wise decision I made back in the days..😂 There were overweight people who trained for it and passed the finish line and probably felt better the next few days than I did.
      Now I am properly trained for it and barely any muscle pain from last week's 10k race. Training does make a difference on the impact of the runs no matter the body shape.

    I feel you on this. I was 200lbs in high school and the first day they had us run a mile to get our baseline so they could see how much we improved by the end of the class. I wore my mom's old running shoes because we were low on money so hand-me-downs were a must. Collapsed from the pain about 10 feet from the finish line on the last lap and they made me rerun it when I got better shoes.

      Bruh one girl just fainted our first day and she was tiny. Our gym teacher was pregnant and would take out her discomfort on us, no less than 4 girls had to twist their ankles for her to finally say "fine we won't go to the track today, but you'll wish for it after our gym workout." She always said "our" as if she's not just chilling under a tree with a large water bottle while we weren't allowed to stop for water after 3 miles in the Texas sun.

    Thank you. I’m 14 and I struggle just running the mile not only cause I have a lot of body fat but I also struggle with asthma but watching this made me realize I shouldn’t give up thank you. You did amazing by the way

    extreme kudos to you, as a cross country runner, no matter how experienced you are 3 miles is pretty difficult but with no training it’s absolute hell. it’s awesome how you didn’t do any walking in the first 3

    I'm doing my second half marathon with only 6 weeks training in 3 weeks time. I got told about it last minute but it's a fundraising effort in my brother in laws honor who passed away last year so I will find a way to push through like you have ❤

      Managed to complete my half marathon last Sunday. It was tough work but myself and my fiancé got across the line. Keen to beat our time in our next one in October with 12 weeks of training 😊

    This is all about pain tolerance and endurance. You probably shouldn’t do things like this that overweight, but it’s certainly possible if you’re mentally strong.

    Your disclaimer is important, thanks for adding it. I used to be a “super athlete”, cross country, track, and professional soccer, I stopped for 3 years because depression and when I started to try to be more active again (I was bedridden for the most part) I was quickly reintroduced to my joint pain and am in pt for chronic knee pain.

    Great ambition BUT to anyone, yes even ppl who r not overweight, one should absolutely not try to do a full marathon without proper training, it’s extremely dangerous and can result in injury which can leave permanent damage. without training i would say it’s safe to do 3 miles jog but if you want to do more, please train

    Never ever run the half or a full marathon without some type of training. You don't want to cause long term problems. At one point you have to figure how to be good to your body regardless of your size. The marathons are challenging, fun, fulfilling, and gratifying! There are many training tables on the internet, pick one and go for it, the right way! Good luck!

    When I get that sharp pain in my feet, I have to stop and stretch them. I use a sharp curb or a golf ball or something firm like that and use it to help stretch that tendon. It usually feels okay after that. For the record, I do that before running at all, since it comes up more when I don't. It doesn't help with full blown tears in the plantar fascia, but if it is just tight and stressed, it helps a lot.

    I'm maybe 25-30 over what I should be but suddenly this week got up to 4 mile jogs. The body is incredible and can be trained and I never knew I could do it for myself! Congrats on doing a half marathon! I've never done one.

    as a kid i was a long distance trail runner (and yes i mean kid, 11-15years old) and then i started cross country running in high school 14-16, then began backpacking and mountaineering at 16. 19 became a chef, 20 became an outdoors tour guide. i’m 24 now, 25 in a week. the plantar fasciitis is really kicking in lately, i had to leave work early this week because it literally felt like knives being shoved slowly into my
    heels.
    you’re super inspiring and you put forth an awesome effort, i look forward to seeing your progress in the years to come!

    Girl i was in your shoes when i did a half marathon with no training over the weekend. I felt like my bottom half was dying and just decided to walk and power jog for the majority of it. I'm glad i did that because i ended up recovering faster than what i have expected.

    Look into transitioning to barefoot shoes! your feet knees hips back will thank you! i had plantar fasciitis and horrible knees and my back would go out weekly and now i don’t have ANY of those issues anymore! 😊

    I used to run track in hs (obvious not a professional whatsoever) but I learned quickly that my body would start to really hurt from heel striking, so try to run on your toes as much as possible to help w pain (not sure if it’ll help with what you were talking about but if it can help you avoid the nasty shin splints I got then I’ll pass it on!)

      Thank you! My wife’s a pt so a few years back she completely fixed my running form from the heel strike so I know what you mean! It took almost a full year of intentional walking and running to fix my form but eventually it got there.

    I have plantar fisciitis and my job requires me to be on my feet for the whole 40 hours a week. At first the pain was unbearable to the point that it was so hard to take the first few steps in the morning. It only got really bad one time when I couldn't stand anymore and felt like I was gonna collapse on my knees. Eventually I got this boot-like things on Amazon that claimed it would help and it certainly did! I would wear them whenever I was resting and the pain went almost down to zero. Of course wearing the proper shoes helps immensely. I can't believe how you manged to finish the race with that kind of pain.

    Cute! Half marathons are a different beast than 5-10k's. I did my first half marathon about 6 months ago when I was 150 pounds over weight with 10 weeks of training, having plantar fasciitis, and was also cleared by my doctor. Today I'm 100 pounds over weight, my plantar fasciitis is so much better with the weight loss, and I'm starting a 12 week training regime to do a 14 mile hike (roundtrip)! It's always been my dream to hike this mountain (Timpanogos mountain) because in the summer there are wild flowers as far as the eye can see on the valley at the summit!! I think it's so important to show people with different weights doing every type of activity. So thank you for sharing this ❤

    You did so good. I weight 160lbs and I’m 5’6. I have a lot of muscle in the my quads. I hate running with a passion and wouldn’t have even been able to make a mile. You go 👏🏼

    I don't understand why people keep doing this. I've seen too many videos where someone tries a marathon with no training and they always end up hurting themselves one way or another ☹️ Be kind to yourself and just don't. We're not infallible even when we're young.

    One thing I will always recommend if you have a really bad pain in your foot that’s not “walking off” don’t push yourself. I got Morton’s neuroma from training in wrong shoes and now I have permanent damage that I have to pay for with foot injections

    Being a runner for 15+ years teached me that lack of respect and preparation for long distances is the worst thought that you might have, even with all your will, positive thinking, bright ideas or strategies, that physically don't change your body and readiness needed it for that effort, it is very difficult and painfull, even risky for your health go for that amount of K's without a very good preparation in every aspect, please if you can avoid this example, do so. Running is a very progressive sport, after months of training and dedication you will be able to atack that half marathon for sure.

    I heard a story about a gym teacher that gave everyone in their class 20 lb weight and had them run laps. When everyone eventually struggled, the teacher told them that this is what it's like to be over weight and you shouldn't judge people who are heavier for struggling with their fitness

    Have few months of previous training guys, while during the jogg or walk this distance you might feel okay..once you stop and rest is when shayt hits the fan, you are exhausted, depleted of minerals and liquid, blood pressure drops you can easily faint at any moment and or worse..you gotta respect the distance guys, 5 km for us runners is "nothing" but in reality 5k is a loooong distance on foot man, please take care of yourselves. I was overweight as her and i lost it by runming daily 5 to 10k and now i am a half marathoner and even tho it is an easy run for me, afterwards few hours i feel disgusting.

    Do not keep running if you're in pain! It's not worth it. Rest up and ease back into exercise slowly when you can.
    My mother fell while casually walking, thought it was no big deal, went back to work for two days and i had to force her to go to the hospital when she said her foot still hurt. She was in so much denial she insisted on driving herself. Her foot was broken and she was in a cast and on crutches for three months, no weight-bearing allowed, plus six months of physio afterwards. All after telling the nurse that she really was okay, it's not a big deal.
    If you're experiencing pain, it's for a reason! It's how our body keeps us safe! "Pushing past it" is just dumb, sorry to be blunt. I don't care if you're doing it out of pride or because you just really want to finish that race, it's such a stupid thing to do.

    There are stretches you can do to help with planar fasciitis!! I work at a foot and ankle clinic and that’s the first thing they recommend

    Never ever do this. I ran 10k after training up to 7k then taking a two week break. I powered through the knee pain and two years later I still have knee pain and can no longer run, swim, bike or hike. I have set the bar waaaaay down to gentle Pilates to rebuild my strength as I wait for my injury to heal. It’s fat pad impingement if anyone’s curious which is a pain because setbacks are so easy. Literally if I run or jog to catch the bus I’m running the risk of not being able to walk the next day. Don’t do this. Train responsibly and listen to your body. Don’t power through pain.

    I have plantars too! I have to do daily exercises with this foot roller thingy, it actually really helps!

    Try zero drop shoes like Altras to help address the plantar fasciitis. You get that pain largely because your feet are weak from wearing "normal" shoes, and your posture is fucked from heel elevation forcing your center of mass further forward than it should be. There are many stories of people swapping to barefoot or minimalist shoes and their PF disappears over time. I never had PF but I had knee, hip and low back pain. Now I only wear barefoot shoes for day to day, and for running I wear the zero drop minimalist line from Topo Athletics while I transition (very slowly) to barefoot running shoes. My entire kinetic chain is significantly stronger than it was, and I no longer have pain.

    I run *a lot* & my ankles used to literally pop (still do) when I get going (on top of that imma diver and my push leg needs a little help), It was expensive and I’m happy my nana and mom made the decision to get me custom soles fit to my foot arch put into my shoes, running’s become a lot easier since then. If you’re gonna run for long periods of time I recommend investing in good running shoes, even if you never use them again for running, they’re also great for waking and just existing (I lead a very active life with school and sports, even my weekends don’t offer a break 😭). The brand I use are Hokas.

    I think going without zero preparation and training can cause a lot of casualties to your body you may not see in the moment but you will see in the future, I would not recommend.

    I’d recommend taping for someone experiencing symptoms of plantar in the middle of a race- that can help balance some of the load your feet are taking. I love the grind, just maybe take a little to train for your next!
    Be easy on your body, fuel right and train, invest in some good shoes especially if the run is all on road/concrete, and you’ll find your marathon much more enjoyable! Keep running🎉

    I’ve actually never found anyone on social media who has planter fasciitis, surprisingly. I got diagnosed with it when I was around 12 which was super rare where I live, and I ended up having to quit playing netball because of this and also because my ankles are very weak (would sprain one or both of my ankles every game).

    Talk about love, that friend really took care of her and wore her bad shoes so she would be in less pain. Not many would take a sweaty, let alone bad shoes to a marathon, yet she did it for her friend. Heartwarming to see but somewhat frustrating to know that it could've been avoided for a few extra preparation or bucks.

    I'm about your weight and I have lots of joint issues. The thing is there are way better sports you can do that aren't as hellish, they just aren't as traditional when it comes to workouts. For example: light stretching, long distance slow hike, climbing rough terrain, archery, roller blading, biking on thick framed bikes, swimming (don't swim lap though, it'll tear up your shoulders).

    As a person with plantar fasciitis for the last few years and still struggling with it... I almost cried watching this. Please don't ever do something like this to yourself again. Love yourself and realize that it's okay not to do this stuff. Torturing yourself is not worth it! 🙁

    I’m a softball player with planter fasciitis and I fee l your pain. I have been in and out of physical therapy and training and it has affected me my whole life. As an athlete it has been very hard but it is slowly getting better as the years go by and the more I’m on my feet. I found that the longer I’m on my feet the longer the pain is bearable but yes planter fasciitis is a very hard thing especially finding the right shoes that support your foot properly
