The ref tells the defense who the eligible receiver is and it’s announced in the stadium. Only thing the Lions could have been doing is hoping to confuse a player who wasn’t paying close attention and missed it. Regardless the ref screwed both teams if he confused 70 and 68.

People stop. Let's talk about the REAL PLAY. That bogus call on Cowboys TE for tripping. This was a 15 yard personal foul that was called on the wrong team and player. Instead of 1st and 10 it became 1st and 25. Had the play been called correctly then Dallas would have had the ball at 1st in 10 and run the clock out since Detroit had only 1 time out. Therefore, whether or Lions tackle reported or not is irrelevant. In addition there were 3 infractions on the same play. 1. Illegal touching/not reporting. 2. 1 of the Lion's WR was offsides. 3. One or both Lions tackles were left uncovered or covered up, which I was told made an illegal formation. So it was doomed from the start. Also, Dumb Dan has multiple attempts at the 2 pt conversion plus a choice in kicking the PAT and shoot for OT. Micah Parsons and Cowboys fans have complained about the Refs all season long and we are told to stop crying. Yet y'all investigating this like it's the JFK assassination. The bias and hypocrisy is deep.

There have been too many Sundays where we talk about officials instead of teams. This one single call changed the top of the entire NFC, this did not just affect the Lions. If the Lions win they take at least the #2 after the Philly loss. Who do you think Seattle and LA would rather play? Everyone has their take and, it's much more simple. The ref heard 68 but said 70 since 70 had been reporting all game long. He told the Cowboys 70, he has no choice but to throw the flag after the play is done, that's why the flags were so late. I'm quite sure the Cowboys instantly reminded him he said 70, even though he had 68 in his head. When you spend all game telling a team that 70 is eligible it's easy to say that number again by accident. This is reinforced by the fact that the coach went over the play with the ref before the game. He just said the wrong number by accident and because of that he had to throw the flag. You can't penalize the Cowboys because you told them the wrong number. I would rather him be a man and own up to it than be a coward and pretend he did not screw it up.

@@LVVideoGuy if you read my comment I completely agree. The officiating was horrible, and that has happened too often. That tripping penalty should have been called and Hutchinson and the communication within the crew screwed up, that's why it looks like a phantom call but make no mistake it was a real call on the wrong team that the ref screwed up. It is the fourth quarter of one of the most important games of the year and the entire officiating crew missed many calls but three worst were missing PI calls, that tripping call, and the conversation. Too many mistakes within a short window that affected the outcome of the game. Everyone is focusing on the conversion because that was the last play and the officials decided the end of the game instead of the players. Even though they missed the pi and the tripping both teams had a chance to rebound from those calls. That's why the conversion was the most egregious of all their errors. I don't know how the NFL allows this crew to stay. This is only a side hustle for these people, if they can't do it then get rid of them. There is a long line at the door of the NFL. If they're going to continue with part-time refs then at least find people who's regular job is not their primary source of income and need that NFL job, so it's not their side hustle. When you got lawyers and CEOs as refs their mind is not on that job and the NFL has made it abundantly clear that there are no repercussions other than a slap on the wrist for screwing up. I'm focused on the conversion call because that turned the NFC upside down and affected many teams, not just Detroit.

That's exactly what happened, the Detroit Lions coaching staff attempted to Shadow and confuse the Dallas Cowboys by sending three offensive lineman in the general area of the official in the attempts to, shall we say, camouflage their trick play. Whatever coach suggested the other two players to roam the range by the official at this time should be docked a day's pay or horse whipped whichever the Detroit Lions fans prefer. We cannot blame the official if he did not in all good conscience hear the player check in as an eligible receiver and it doesn't matter if the head coach informs the officiating crew with the trick play prior to the game. The rule is the rule, and you have to check in and announce yourself as eligible receiver when it requires you to do so.
The best way to avoid this is simply having the one offensive lineman announced he is an ineligible number lining up in an eligible receiver position and utilizing the CAC method of communication convey, acknowledge, and confirm
The player conveys his intention and should have waited for the acknowledgment by the referee, and obviously, he did not receive it and at that time should have repeated that he was checking in as an eligible receiver.

@@jeffreycaudle5108lol … no. Decker reported plain and simple. Allen messed it up by ASSUMING 70 was reporting. They were trying to confuse the defense … and 70 isn’t waiving his arms in any way. Are you blind?
And yes, the defense played him as ineligible because THE REF GOT IT WRONG and told the defense that 70 was eligible instead when nothing could be further from the truth. You must be daft or intentionally blind to not see how this was bungled by the officials here

Why do they keep saying Allen isn't looking at looking at #68 when he's looking dead at him and he also nods.

None of this crew should even be officiating next season

Bottom line; Ref blew it. 68 reported , he ignored him and focused on 70. But in the end we dont know if Lions convert if Dallas knew 68 was eligible. he might have been covered....

The lions didn’t want the Cowboys, knowing who was eligible. They are a slimy team.
because of this, the refs also didn’t know. You don't send linemen to the ref unless you're reporting.
      the lions messed up

@@James-gq4tbDid u listen to Damian w he literally said with the formation they were in the number 70 and the other guy couldn't be eligible.. And Dan Campbell said he told the refs before the game that he will be running a particular formation so look out for it. Just a terrible referee crew...
