    The lack of "typical" old Mercedes diesel engines noises is amazing. Just quiet enough to hear some other rotating tensioner or belt or pulley periodic noise... time to follow that path... the fact that old mechanic machines can run so smoothly is impressive...

    Really nice. Many years ago our local airport transfer company had a 1990 S124 300D non turbo. At 5 years old it had almost 200000 miles on the clock. I was always amazed at how it just started with what seemed like 1/4 turn of the starter. Hot or cold, no cranking required!

    Even though I'm basically a huge Volvo enthusiast, i really enjoy all your awesome videos about these old diesels! I remember the engines from my childhood in the 80's when almost all taxis were Mercedes diesels here in Denmark. I was just fascinated by the sound and the looks of the cars. I later became a semi truck mechanic and later had some years working on buses, before becoming a Locomotive engineer, and I also drove big locomotives with EMD V16 diesels. I just love the sound of a well built diesel engine and still get excited when you fire one up in your videos. As my teacher at the technical college said: the sound of a diesel is music to your ears. I agree. Thank you.

    Thanks Kent, I appreciate the long videos. Particularly the "Kent's Garage" series from 2015/2016 or so, an enjoyable activity on a rainy autumn Saturday that I still occasionally review--they have resulted in more than a few Mercedessource purchases! Even though I don't even own a diesel, and probably never will, there is always something to learn.

    Kent, your attention to detail is terrific and to pass on your knowledge like this (so well documented) will keep these older cars on the road. It takes a lot of worry out of ownership and maintenance. Thank you.

    It truly runs like a butter! This injector rebuild is on my worklist next on my -83 mercedes w123 NA 300D 4-speed manual. I did order many useful products from your website alongside those new nozzles little while ago! Those look like very nice quality and cannot wait to see how nicely my good ol mercedes run with those after done! Even with old injectors it runs way better after i adjusted injection pump timing. Its currently driven 262 000 miles / 421 648 km. I have done basic maintenance and month ago also diesel purge, that helped with running and power significantly. I have learned so so much from you Kent, thank you! Greetings from Finland!

    That series reminds me so much of my apprenticeship sometime in the late 1990s when I learned to rebuild BMW pre-chamber diesels M21 and M51. No in-line injection pumps on these, though, but distributor injection pumps (if that's the right English term). I'd really love to get my fingers dirty now 🙂Thanks so much Ken for those videos.

    My 300cd runs well, but at 315k, it’s time for new injectors. I bought the Monark nozzles from Kent awhile back. This will be a winter project.

    Good material as always. These mechanical injectors are beside MB used also in BMW and VW/Audi diesel engines. Worst ones I have take apart are the ones that have had water in or they have been clogged up from decades of sitting. Very easy to break them and ruin the shim and nozzle when you don't know what your doing. Bad injectors are just always one thing out of many why the German diesel engines will start to not run right. Just a personal experience. Old spence dose sound like a new car, hard to believe how different it is from what it started with.

    Thanks Kent, as usually great movie and love to watch and follow. I learnt to watch out for a small o-ring at oil filter which I do not recall seeing in my engine. Can you indicate after how many seconds oil pressure should be raising up on the gauge at dashboard when starting cold engine after some days / weeks sitting still?

    Kent - is there any chance of you selling a shim kit for NA OM606 engines? These seem to be nearly impossible to find, and it is making injectors for that engine much harder to service. Please let us know!

    • @Mercedessource
      @Mercedessource  Год назад +4

      I have been working on this for a while. I have a tool that will hold the shim while you sand it down while it rotates against a belt sander to get the proper thickness. I know of no source for various size shim kits. I used this technique grinding valve shims for an Alfa Romeo 55 years ago.

      You will have to use heat. Get it in a strong vise. Apply heat to the bottom section with a torch and use a socket and long breaker bar to break it loose.
