    It's been so long since I first watched this video. I can now say that I do in fact row as much weight as I bench. (315 for 8 for both) It sounded impossible when I first watched this video and now I know it's possible. Cheers mate.

    This guy is totally right about rows helping bench. Having big lats helps drive the weight up. It wasn't until I started doing a solid deadlift /back routine that I saw a stronger bench/push press. Great videos.

      No reason to believe that they have to be the same number or even in the same ballpark. They're different muscle groups that are trained at different angles. It's kind of arbitrary to say that

      If you bench 315 and cant row 200 then you have muscle i balance, but some can suck in bench so its not always the same.

    Such a great video. Barbell rows probably contribute to more overall hypertrophy than benching, as the back takes up more of your upper body. It’s a shame people in the gym don’t realize the power of this movement.

I like the test of trusting the thumb to stay tight to pull that bar all hands towards me. Thanks for this video because i never throught of rolls as of this untell i learned from you!

    Killer content! I'm glad Thrall sent us your way!
    Since you're so jacked, I got a bit of a mass building question. I've been working my pull ups and rows a lot more lately, but most of the mass I've gained seems to go more towards thickness around the erectors and traps instead of lat width. Is there anything I can do to dial my pulls in so I get more width development instead of thickness?
    Keep up the good work man, can't wait to see this channel grow.

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  8 лет назад +29

      Thanks brother! I am no expert on Bodybuilding at all, but for me personally, I know I have found that for thickness, Rows and Deadlifts are the way to go. For widening you back, I think vertical Pulling movements work better. For me that is weighted pull-ups, of some it is lat pull downs. Like I said, I am no expert, but that is what has seemed to work for me!

      Brian Alsruhe you mentioned that a weaker row than bench can lead to shoulder issues, what about the opposite? I row 260x5 and bench 190x5.

    • @diesertyp7822
      @diesertyp7822 7 лет назад +1

      I can't see how that would lead to an injury. Having a stronger back and a stronger rear delt is always good. And tbh it only makes sense for a row to be stronger than a benchpress, I mean you're using your lats, your rhomboids, your traps, your rear delt and your biceps compared to your chest, your triceps and your front delt. That's a lot more muscle used in the row.

    • @kiddkaos1
      @kiddkaos1 7 лет назад

      Dieser Typ if you're benching properly you'll be using more muscles than that. I still agree you should row more than you bench though.

    • @diesertyp7822
      @diesertyp7822 7 лет назад

      kiddkaos1 Well I did forget the legs but other than that I don't see any other movers for the bench, sure you will be using other muscles (lats, core etc) to give yourself a stable base but not to actually move the weight.

    Strong rows Brian, don't see 405 been rowed that easily nowadays. And i felt quite proud at rowing 315 with quite alot of body english. Btw not sure if you addresed this but in your preperation for Marylands strongest man have you made any changes to your training? Might be interesting to make video about how to prepare for a strongman competition or for most events. Good content as always

      Thank you so much! And yes, my training is actually completely changed with my Maryland's Strongest prep. I'll be explaining it more as I go along, but next week I plan on releasing a video explains basic strongman programming. It is all taped and edited, but won't be out until next week because there are some cool things about to happen. It should clear a lot of things up.

    One thing I noticed about prioritizing my row, is my pullups not only got stronger, but the speed increased on them a ton. Like a I could do 8 reps with 45 pounds before, but now im doing 60 pounds(plus 3 more pounds bw) for 8 reps at a much faster speed.

    great video man. I totally agree on benching and rows should be the same! and if anything the rows should be even stronger then bench to be honest. the back is bigger and stronger. I'm happy to see someone actually say it! thanks for video keep em coming man
