What I really appreciate about Drayono is that he makes the game challenging, but he also gives you all the tools to overcome those challenges, without too much grinding/tedium
although in this hack there's quite a lot of powerful items that are all post-game if you're playing on challenge mode, so i dunno 'bout that
Ye challenge mode in this game is pretty encounter dependent
Also worth noting that this is more of an Alphex romhack than drayano, dray joined late in development so this really isn't a drayano hack, which explains some of the rather questionable choices.
@@aaajeear8654 yeah alphex just presented the idea to dray and he jumped on board with it, i mean like all the pokemon are available before post game aswell
Whoever decided the first plasma grunt was "fair" clearly did it to fuck with people nuzloking. It's dependent on encounters to the point that there isn't any really point in playing it.
"I do love all my children equally. The ones that I _chose_ to catch, not the one that was forced upon me by the state."
That made me laugh too hard.
It's particularly funny when you're playing with a self-imposed rule of all your Pokemon being forced upon you by the state.
Redux is made with two clashing design philosophies with Pokémon Rom hacks, so it feels a bit disconnected from a standard Drayano experience in my opinion. Drayano is all about giving you a bunch of resources and going wild with it while your opponents have a bunch of resources too, but AlphexCube leans more into Nuzlocking and nerfing when necessary. It’s very clear to me that things like the Gems and Choice items being displaced were Alphex’s choice, because Drayano very rarely does nerfs in his games. Redux is still fun to play, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit bothered by how this game is structured differently than a typical Drayano experience to make things more restrictive
I'm currently bumping against this as well. Not sure how it'll shake out, but we shall see!

I played through with snivy and it's hillarious how poorly the game deals with contrary. Snivy for some reason is the only one that keeps it's good ability to it's last evo. Osh and Tepig start with great abilties then they change to something much worse.
Tbf its pretty much dogshit before Leaf Storm and idk if its even possible to beat a Nuzlocke with it bc the early game is really hard
Honestly i like it since it makes the mons not broken in late game but its good early. Meanwhile Snivy is the opposite its dogshit until it gets Leaf Storm. It ensures that all starters are balanced to each other. If its abilities didn't change then the Oshawott and Tepig line would far outstrip the Snivy line. It would make picking Snivy pointless. Though picking Snivy is already pretty unviable in a Nuzlocke but atleast in a casual playthrough its pretty balanced
@@gigalodon14 yeah when it gets leaf storm its so broken, another broken af pokemon in this rom is charizard with fire/dragon typing and levitate so it has very few weaknesses
@@mattmc1234 yeah thats another form of balance bc Charizard is the best but You usually wanna pick Bulbasaur or Squirtle because they get rid of Toxic Spikes
@@gigalodon14 yeah i did really enjoy this rom when i played it in april, the added mandatory fights are enjoyable aswell, but roxie is so hard, that trubbish is such a nightmare, i only played casually but i still struggled she has insane coverage on koffing and that croagunk is a pain too
Also playing a Blaze Black 2 Redux HC Nuzlocke on challenge mode and damn this game is brutal. The early game up until Burgh is incredibly encounter dependant and the fights against Team Plasma are significantly harder. Once you make it past Burgh you start to snowball, but it’s a tall order to make it past that point without many deaths. Looking forward to the rest of this series - good luck!
It's been a rough 2 days for me, so I'm really happy to have this new series to look forward to. I really enjoyed watching the Renegade Platinum run and seeing your way on handling a new and challenging rom hack with a lot of prep.

very interested to see you run this game! i was pretty much the only playtester that didn't nuzlocke the game, so it's gonna be cool to watch this run. should probably also point out that while people are referring to this as a drayano hack, it's actually aphex's. dray only joined later in development to help out. aphex was the lead "director" of the project, so you probably shouldn't expect the same balance decisions that dray would take :P
yeah... most of the stat buffs the bad mons got in Renegade Platinum that actually made them fun and perfectly usable are a lot smaller in this one, which i'm not really too fond of tbh, i feel like Aphex cares a little bit too much about "balancing", many good items enemies uses against you are also locked behind post-game, which i, too, am really not fond of... Dray is all about giving you a bunch of tools to fight battles where enemies also uses these tools, i feel like that's the perfect way to make a pokemon game harder not in a "bullshit" way, you can also really go full-in on enemy team composition when both parties have access to every item.
Really looking forward to how this series unfolds. Great job with the editing too!
Love this channel and was sad to miss the end of the last run but I understand if it wasn't pulling the views. I fully expect this series to do well, keep up the quality content!

@StellarKnight no the AI having OP things you objectively can't even compare to (only 2 ice stabs 0 fairy stabs) with lower BST means the game is good! Unfair and hard to win = good! 🤣

Good luck with the run! I chose osha as my starter too, my heart was crushed when Samurott’s Ability changed from Battle Armour to Water Veil.
In the new update it's fixed so samurott has shell armor. The trade off for that was losing detect and storm throw via level up

@@Seriouspup nature's boost a single stat by 10 percent and reduce another by 10 percent. Or it can be a neutral nature which means it doesn't boost nor reduce any stats. You can search up a nature table for each specific nature

I genuinely believe a Nuzlocke isn’t worth doing in Alphex’s remakes. The early game feels the opposite of fun primarily because your tools are so massively limited. Drayanos hacks give you enough tools to work around holes in your team comp when Nuzlocking, while it doesn’t feel like BB2R gives you much, if at all, ESPECIALLY on Challenge mode, where incredibly specific things are needed for some fights.

Nah game is great. Specifically the 1.1 update. The day 1 patch had a good bit of what you are complaining about here but the only fight that's really guilty of that on 1.1 is Burgh. If the Burgh fight still feels too oppressive to you, just try again on 1.2. The main reason he's such a demon right now is bad RNG with natures

I dident do it in challange mode but i did go through the game with only pidove line. They have been changed from normal attack to special attack focused mons so they are pretty good even late game
