Took my 13 yr old grandson to the range today so that he could use his brand new Ruger 10/22 (black synthetic stock model) he got for Christmas. Once he got used to the sights, he was hitting the swinging steel target 65 yards away, using my range bag for support. The 70º weather on a Christmas day in Kentucky certainly made for an enjoyable time at the range.
You, sir, are describing what NORMAL life is like and how great it is in the "REAL" world out here in what Left Coast and Right Coast elitists call "Fly-over country." It's sad that they not only miss out on these special experiences of life, like you and your grandson had this Christmas, but that they also want to extinguish our great way of life. We have to continually resist their Totalitarian desires for control.
My older brother bought me a Marlin Model 60 on Christmas and we got a chance to do some shooting as well. I've done a good deal of shooting in the last few years, but this is my first personally owned firearm, and so far I've fallen in love with it!
My first rifle was the 10/22. Back in 1982 it cost me around $80. It still looks brand new and shoots great! I bought it in a Central California hardware store. “Paint, light bulbs, screwdrivers, and.....here we are GUNS!” Things have certainly changed on the left coast and across the country since then.
Volquartsen auto bolt release and about 5 minutes of your time best upgrade you can make to a 10/22 still doesnt lock back on last round but makes it where you can drop the bolt like any other firearm
Did you have a Marlin 60 in those days ? I remember once seeing a Western Auto branded model 120, same as a Marlin 60 I used to purchase Remington .22 lr ammo in bulk boxes.
I got a 10/22 last year to teach my son to shoot. He paid attention and remembers the safety rules and is becoming quite the marksman! He skipped right over the Red Ryder BB gun.
I've had my Ruger 10/22 Target since I was 14, owned it for 14 years, probably shot 10,000 rounds through it. Such a great, accurate, CHEAP (ammo) gun to shoot for endless hours. Might be the smallest caliber on the rifle line, but I always have people checking it out at the range asking if they should get one.
I just got my 10 year old grandson a ruger 10/22 with 22 inch barrels and added a vortex 3x9/ 40, not impressed with scope but we love the 22 we shot 250 rounds in -28 with a bit of wind, man it’s fun to shoot my grandson was just glowing after finished shoot, great new memories for both of us
Bought my 10-22 Sporter in 1971 for about $65.00.That same evening my buddy bought a beautiful Weathersby .22 for about $100.00 more than I paid. The next day we went to an outdoor range to have some cheap fun shooting our .22's. My Ruger 10-22 was shooting every type of ammo we had without a hitch. My friend was having a terrible time with his higher price gun jambing . Still a lot of fun to shoot fifty years later.
I've had one of these for 40 years. The only thing I've ever done to it was take it completely apart, Polishing each piece, mild lube, and reassemble. For fun I shot 500 rounds through it without stopping. NO MALFUNCTIONS! Polishing does a lot for Any firearm, and for this one it was all it needed!
I'm 55yrs old bought a used 10/22 in 84 from a buddy. I could literally hit nail heads with that rifle. Hate to admit that I had only stripped it ALL the way down 1 time to clean it. It has never ever failed me! Shot thousands upon thousands of rounds through it and like a Timex watch. It just keeps on ticking! Never had a jamb either. Ruger nailed it with this lil rifle!
Honestly out of all my badass guns I think the 10/22 is the go-to for combat, stealth, survival, weight, and accuracy. 10/22 behind every blade of grass in america.
I'm sure they really love you. My dad gave me a .22 rifle with an interchangeable 410 barrel for my 10th birthday. One day I'll get to give it to my son
There are many positive qualities for having your Ruger 10/22 with a larger capacity magazine for general home defense. Dependable high capacity close in hit power. Mine is ready over the fireplace.
Glad I’m not the only one. I would rather fire 25 accurate 22 LR rounds than 10 9 mm rounds where only one or two connect. In a high stress, random situation, you generally don’t have time to aim too well. Which is where the 22s come in. You can hip fire a 22 and still hit somebody pretty squarely. So many people think that 22 LR is horrible for self-defense. I actually think it’s a great weapon to have for self defense. It may take a few bullets to stop somebody, but you pretty much know that those bullets are always going to hit. I’ll take accuracy over ammunition size any day. And, if the situation requires it… I have my Mosburg 224 Olympic AR not too far away.
People will try to tell you that 22 is not a great home defense weapon but you'll know if you get hit. These rifles with the higher-capacity magazines you can definitely let somebody know they're in the wrong house plus they're good for rats, squirrels, rabbits any varmint really

Was my first gun. Bought the stainless one 20 some years ago. Most reliable .22 ive ever owned. Watching u put almost 200 rounds through it before a malfunction is a true reminder of that, i dont fire nearly enough .22.

You have had a great impact on my gun safe and made me an informed and well-educated firearm owner, I Thank You, Sir. Peace.
Been since 2012 doing a 22LR video, especially with the Ruger 10/22. I have the take down model and absolutely love it. Thanks for all you do partner God Bless us all
My 10/22 was bought back in the mid 70's. It has only malfunctioned one time since I bought it new. That was back in 82. I remember the day well because I was checking it out before going squirrel hunting the following day after I had been released from the hospital due to a workplace injury. From that day on, I have used nothing but CCI Mini Mag hollow points and never had another malfunction. It's extremely dependable and accurate to this day. I bought another one about 6 yrs. ago. It's a take down and I added a Magpul X22 Backpacker stock. It's never had anything other than CCI stingers through it and never had a malfunction. My only complaint is with the magazine release on the newer take down. It's not hard to accidentally bump it and drop your magazine.
My first solo firearm purchase was a Ruger 10/22. I walked into the local Kmart, put down $66.00 in hard earned cash and left with gun and ammo in hand. I was 16 years old at the time, no parental authorization or supervision required. That same rifle hung in the rear window of my P/U truck for many years. Even while parked in my High School’s parking lot. This was a common scene in the 1970’s.
First rifle I ever shot was a 10/22 that had been my Grandpa's. Put a lot of rounds through it in my teens but it's long gone. So when I got back into shooting this year I had to have a 10/22. But I was disappointed that so much is now plastic. So I bought a vintage (1975) model that still had the metal butt plate, barrel band and trigger guard. Then customized the heck out of the new one. Red and black laminate stock, 20" fluted bull barrel, red anodized bits all over the place. Still ❤️ shooting them.
My first gun was a ruger 1022,my parents got it for me on my 16th birthday, almost 40 years and still a great platform and with all the customization available the sky is the limit, I own 4 of them now that should tell the love I have for this platform.

Ruger 10/22 yes I had one of those in the 70s and 80s before the Australian gun buy back. Miss that gun, fond memories of walking in the bush with an Uncle..still hopeful in the future our govt will allow the public to again buy firearms..only had the 10 shot mag though. Enjoyed the video thanks
Doesn't the government work for you? Could be wrong but if you can get enough of your fellow countrymen and women together, you can get it changed. Hope it does change for you in the future.
Yes thats right they do work for us, yes there is a gun lobby here in Australia. Not easy to get a 10-22, but there are about 1 million firearm owners in Australia. It's not like firearms are flat out banned Eric. I have 2 and another on the way.
I have a 10/22 I owned since a kid I bet I put 100.000 rounds thru it I used to mow grass just to buy bricks of ammo to plink with. Any jams was either clip related or misfired cheap ammo. It still drives tacks I have owned a few after but none hold a place like the one my dad gave me. 10/22 is legend....
LOVE my 10/22's! Wish I had a place half as nice to plink with it. You definitely get accustomed to working the bolt release quickly with some experience.
my first rifle. Love that thing and I think ANY shooter, beginner or expert should pick one up. Cheap fun and foolproof. Thanks for the great video hickock!
I've always said there is something wonderful about putting shots in a dime size target every time. Those are extremely acurate and fun guns!!! I love love love my ruger
I'm ten and recently I shot my first rifle and it was a 10/22 that my granpa had since 1973 with ten rounds and we found a 22 mag in there with the 22lr
The Remington 550-1 is the only semiauto 22 that I know that can reliably shoot 22 short, long & long rifle. The 10/22 is an iconic 22 that everyone should have in their collection. Thanx for the video Hitchcock 😀
10-22 is my prefered choice. Really good out of the box and easily customized to be better. I like the flush mag and many don't so I've picked up a bunch of them cheap.
Man this was recorded 8 years ago January... I was in Africa supporting the Jessica Buchanan rescue when this was uploaded, and much of my downtime I watching this channel looking for what I’m going to buy when I got home. Keep up the good work!
I just picked up a Ruger 10/22 LR today. My first firearm. My older brother is a firearms instructor and I’m looking forward to learning the disciplines and learning to shoot. I figured this would be a great gun to learn.
I just purchased the 10/22 carbine with the hardwood stock. Cant wait to test it out. Unfortunately up here in canada, we can only have the 10 round rotary mag. You can buy the 25 round ruger mag but they are pinned to 10 rounds.... go figure.
Owned a 10/22 for many years, had lots of fun with it. My favorite of them all is my Marlin model 25 bolt action, 1976 or so vintage with the micro bore. Very accurate and extremely reliable regardless of the ammo.
Glad I came across this in 2022, about 10 years later. Been watching Hickock45 for many years, but I somehow missed this one. Love the 1022. Also my fave ammo is CCI, mostly mini mags. They run in anything. Started out with Marlin 60, then Remington Viper, then Ruger Charger 22.
Wife handed me money yesterday and told me to get a bday gift for myself. I just picked up a Ruger 10/22 International with the full length 'Stutzen' stock with the mainly black with grey laminate. It's a beautiful rifle looking rifle as I have a thing for old military rifles with full stocks.
If you want to shoot.22s, .22l and .22lr I recommend the Remington 552 Speedmaster. I’ve been shooting my ‘50s model for at least 46 years and it is flawless.
He giggles like I do when I hit the target repeatedly. I've had 3 10/22s still own 1. I've owned a couple marlin model 60 too. Both are great rifles. The ruger is more reliable especially after its warmed up. Still love both
Nice. I just inherited a Ruger 10/22 from my uncle who is a retired Marine. Actually I even got his Winchester 98 30/30. So I'm proud and delighted to have some of his collection.
@@cutwormsmith He is right though the Marlin 795/60/70 is more accurate in stock configuration than any Ruger 10/22 in stock configuration would be. But there is alot of aftermarket support for 10/22 and not too much for the Marlins, so you can easily turn the 10/22 into something much better than both.
@@MegaBoooooooooooooob you might be right. I have no experience with the marlin. I do know that all the ruger needs out of the box is a decent trigger. They suck from factory.....all of them.
William Bower also never sell or trade it because you can pass it down to your children and tell them all the good fun you’ve had with it. Just be safe with it and learn your 10-.22 rifle like the back of your hand
My brother's and I learned to shoot an old single shot 22 when we were kids,....later as an adult I bought a Marlin semi auto 22 and still have it today...great little gun!!
My Remington 550-1autoloader will shoot shorts, longs, and long rifle all day long either individually or mixed up. Very accurate rifle and actually shot a bad man in the lung in 1976. He lived but he was cut open like a fish to get the fragments out of his chest.
I had the exact same problem with my 10/22. I had the hardest time figuring out that dadgum sight. I have no clue why, but once I figured out my problem, it was smooth sailin'.
Agree, I raised my son on this rifle. He's a sophomore in college now and we shot together this weekend. Countless thousands of rounds, varied targets and mods. At least as many smiles, good times.

That gun cycles flawlessly. Go Ruger 10-22
I love my 10/22. 😍 I had a Mini-14, and honestly, I preferred the .22.
This should be everyones first firearm.
It was mine and still love it 😊
LOVE my 10/22's!
I had one for many years and I absolutely loved it what a wonderful fun gun
Always admired the classic 10 shot 10-22 mag.
best 22 ever made you cannot go wrong buying a Ruger 10/22
Hearing Hickok say "trolls" at 16:22 just made my day
this is a man of culture... and class
The stepping stone for any responsible gun owner. I own 3 myself.
I actually use Hickok's videos to know if a gun is comfortable. It's nice to have someone the same height and build review guns. Love this guy
Excellent demonstration of the ruger 10-22; good video with humor and instruction.
My first gun i bought was a ruger 10/22 when i was 18. At 39 i still have the gun and enjoy shooting it. It's a great, and fun gun.
Had my Ruger 10/22 for 35 years plus. Love it
You did a great job explaining the value of the 10/22. Thanks!
I'm ten and recently I shot my first rifle and it was a 10/22 that my granpa had since 1973 with ten rounds and we found a 22 mag in there with the 22lr
I’m in Wisconsin too 👍
The Remington 550-1 is the only semiauto 22 that I know that can reliably shoot 22 short, long & long rifle. The 10/22 is an iconic 22 that everyone should have in their collection. Thanx for the video Hitchcock 😀
This is the 10/22 model I am going to get, I really like the wood stock on this.
I like the wookstocks too. very classic
Even if you get this one and don’t like the stock, you can get so many different stocks for it that it’s almost comical
How do i get in India?
I have the wood stock, love it's looks, but man, it's really slippery.
10-22 is my prefered choice. Really good out of the box and easily customized to be better.
I like the flush mag and many don't so I've picked up a bunch of them cheap.
My first firearm, new in 1985. Still have it and works flawlessly. Eats everything. I modified the bolt release which is really easy and that's it
Good ole western auto, still have one in my hometown in Mississippi. Where I got my first firearm and bike lol
What's the name of your hometown? I wanna move there.
Soy aficionado a las armas y ya que no las tengo me conformo con verlas en estos videos, sobre todo los calibres 22, en armas deportivas.
Here I am years later watching this same video. Thank you sir for all your videos. God bless
Man this was recorded 8 years ago January... I was in Africa supporting the Jessica Buchanan rescue when this was uploaded, and much of my downtime I watching this channel looking for what I’m going to buy when I got home. Keep up the good work!
When i heard 6'8" i was like "Oh my God" you are a complete beast
Sure makes it look easy
I just picked up a Ruger 10/22 LR today. My first firearm. My older brother is a firearms instructor and I’m looking forward to learning the disciplines and learning to shoot.
I figured this would be a great gun to learn.
Bar none my favorite gun !!!! All American fun gun !!!! Ive had mine for 30+ yrs still fires like it was new just the best dam 22 made !!!
13:34 this is basically rifle ASMR 😊
I just purchased the 10/22 carbine with the hardwood stock. Cant wait to test it out. Unfortunately up here in canada, we can only have the 10 round rotary mag. You can buy the 25 round ruger mag but they are pinned to 10 rounds.... go figure.
I think California has the same restrictions.
"Don't see many metal coffee cans these days, hate to shoot em up." That made me laugh
Owned a 10/22 for many years, had lots of fun with it. My favorite of them all is my Marlin model 25 bolt action, 1976 or so vintage with the micro bore. Very accurate and extremely reliable regardless of the ammo.
Just got mine yesterday, it's an awesome gun ! Got .22lr cci's they are also great
I love the fact that you dont cut out the parts where you miss!
I've had mine...a Sporterised in 1970 for 60$. Still love it! 🇺🇸⚓
Would you let me live there if I cleaned up the compound and set up more bottles for you..!
Sure
Wife handed me money yesterday and told me to get a bday gift for myself. I just picked up a Ruger 10/22 International with the full length 'Stutzen' stock with the mainly black with grey laminate. It's a beautiful rifle looking rifle as I have a thing for old military rifles with full stocks.
you really know your stuff!Anytime I need to learn something about any firearm I just tune into your channel.THANKS
I love my Ruger 10/22. I chose the one that came with the factory lasermax laser, it works great, and is one of my favorite .22s.
I have the same rifle. I bought it gosh, 6ish years ago and the batteries were dead today. I have never used the laser...
Still love both
I’m happy this was recommended to me on Christmas Day
Nice. I just inherited a Ruger 10/22 from my uncle who is a retired Marine. Actually I even got his Winchester 98 30/30. So I'm proud and delighted to have some of his collection.
Nice!
7:55 only a .22 could ever do that.
Marlin 795 woulda done it in half the spread :)
@@omardevonlittle3817 🙄
@@cutwormsmith He is right though the Marlin 795/60/70 is more accurate in stock configuration than any Ruger 10/22 in stock configuration would be. But there is alot of aftermarket support for 10/22 and not too much for the Marlins, so you can easily turn the 10/22 into something much better than both.
@@MegaBoooooooooooooob you might be right. I have no experience with the marlin. I do know that all the ruger needs out of the box is a decent trigger. They suck from factory.....all of them.
@@cutwormsmith there both great guns to have i personaly have shot both i prefer the marlin over the ruger but both are very reliable and fun to shoot
Im 13 and I have a 10/22. Great squirrel gun.
William Bower don't ever sell it one day when your an old man you will appreciate it more then you do now. It'll bring lots of memories.
William Bower also never sell or trade it because you can pass it down to your children and tell them all the good fun you’ve had with it. Just be safe with it and learn your 10-.22 rifle like the back of your hand
I was 12 when I got mine. Christmas of 1975.
@@nicholasworrell2747 k!!7
RIP will. Gone but never forgotten.
My brother's and I learned to shoot an old single shot 22 when we were kids,....later as an adult I bought a Marlin semi auto 22 and still have it today...great little gun!!
Great vid. I love the gong ending. Awesome job to you both.
Does anybody else love to hear him laugh in slow motion?
My Remington 550-1autoloader will shoot shorts, longs, and long rifle all day long either individually or mixed up. Very accurate rifle and actually shot a bad man in the lung in 1976. He lived but he was cut open like a fish to get the fragments out of his chest.
I had the exact same problem with my 10/22. I had the hardest time figuring out that dadgum sight. I have no clue why, but once I figured out my problem, it was smooth sailin'.
I figured out it needed a scope.
Anyone else cleaning their 10/22 while watching this😊?
No. Distracted cleaning means missing springs...for me.
me guilty.was done playing with the sks
Yeah with Ballistol!!
lol Yep, just reassembled 10/22 take down
No, but I should be.......along with my Marlin Model 60.....bad shooter.....bad shooter
Just bought a 10 22 today and it's a fun little gun!!. God bless and stay locked and loaded!!
it is the 50th anniversary of this gun this year :)
yep
Got me a 50th anniversary one!
@@theepicgaming5260 lmao this comment was from 6 years ago guys
@@KrisWithaK still got me a 50th anniversary one
My Marlin 60 will be 55 this august.
Every ten year old in America should get a 10/22 for Christmas
Agree, I raised my son on this rifle. He's a sophomore in college now and we shot together this weekend. Countless thousands of rounds, varied targets and mods. At least as many smiles, good times.
@@tactical690r2 if only it was like this here in Italy, too
Tactical 690R That’s very nice.
I was that age. Got this cool rifle. And over 20 years later. I cherish it STILL.
My Son did
I have an old Winchester mod. 190 SA that cycles S, L, and LR.
