Hickok45 videos are filmed on my own private shooting range and property by trained professionals for educational and entertainment purposes only, with emphasis on firearms safety and responsible gun ownership. We are NOT in the business of selling firearms or performing modifications on them. Do not attempt to copy at home anything you see in our videos. Firearms can be extremely dangerous if not used safely.
I got one of these towards the end of June and I love it...now. When I first got it, my first really close-up inspection at home revealed the rear sights to be skewed so badly that the edge of the dovetail was actually bent and curled up. Additionally, the first time I pulled the trigger on a live round it failed to fire. I called Ruger and they handled it quickly, thoroughly and no cost to me at all. The fit and function are now almost like a handcrafted gun. I'm a happy Ruger customer.
I do like the easy to clean barrel aspect, probably the most of this take down model.
I never looked at it like that. You speak my lingo bro!
hanging out behind hickoks range? Not a very good choice little deer. Ha! I have a Ruger 10-22 in stainless, just not the break down version. Bought it for my son, but I end up grabbing it too. Super fun gun!!! Never malfunctions, and very accurate.
Nothing makes you feel 20 years younger than shooting the 10/22! Watching you shoot it was all most as fun as shooting it. I have 2 10/22's now. The carbine and the take-down in multicam.
Just bought my youngest son his first rifle yesterday and you guessed it, its a Ruger 10/22 with synthetic stock. The 10/22 was also his older brothers first rifle as well. Its a great rifle that will last them a lifetime.
love to see you shooting the.22 for a change.
Take down is a fantastic option to have.
If you're gonna be out in the wild putting together an emergency survival pack is a must and having a .22 to take small game with will save your life in that situation.
The rapid-fire shots on the gong were a real eye opener!
Well I know this is 10 years down the road now, but my 2 favorite mods for the 10/22 are the Tandemkross bolt release, makes it so you just pull back on the lever and the bolt goes home, it’s less than $12, and an easy install after watching the video on the website.. Probably the most annoying thing about a 10/22 easily solved.
And second is the Ruger extended mag release, it’s not huge and obtrusive like some of the aftermarket ones, but really aids in a mag change.
Ruger 10/22 is the most popular guns for beginner and first time shooter
One of the most popular guns in general, no matter if you're a beginner or an experienced shooter.
I love when that gong takes a beating!
Thanks Hickok45 for all your vids. I turned all my Air Force buddies onto your vids. They have actually bought a few guns because of your videos. Again, thank you sir. And we all hope to keep seeing new videos.
I can tell you love this gun, as well as your Ruger LCR22 Revolver. I love your enthusiasm for the 22. You're like a little kid. YEEHAW!!! Great shooting.
Hey Hickok! Thanks for the video! There definitely a reason though why you'd want to take it down. Backpacking presents a good reason to want to break it down and store inside your pack.
I love this rifle because I can ride my motorcycle to the range with a pistol, this rifle, a bit of ammo and a rubber bouncing target in a bookbag. My range is 45 minutes down the interstate so this setup cuts gas out of the cost of range time.
I see it as being useful for shooters in colleges that say you cant have a fire arm, break it down it can fit in a gym bag or something so shooters can have a firearm at campus. Whether it be for self defence or (preferably) plinking on the weekend.
My favorite rifle deserves multiple comments. I have scars and AR's and mini 14's and several .22 rifles and the 10/22 takedown is my favorite.
I have a bunch as well and always revert back to my 10/22
Ruger is always innovative. Scaling down an m-14 for the mini 14. The 10/22 takedown is a genius move with Ruger magazines. Then Ruger made the LCP max, another game changer like the 10/22 takedown.
hickok45 - I'm a HUGH fan of yours and love your videos and have written to you many times. One thing I would like to note however, PLEASE do NOT be a caliber snob!!!! More people are killed every year with .22 bullets than any other caliber. They are inexpensive to purchase and provide very little recoil so their ability to kill is actually far greater than many higher caliber weapons. As an owner of many rifles including a Sig 516 Gen ll FDE and a Henry .45-70 AW, I can tell you as a fact that it is much easier to zero in on a moving target with this gun then just about any other higher caliber weapon unless you are talking about an AR-15 which of course was designed to protect us from evil....AMEN!!!!!! Other than that, please keep up the great videos and make note that we all need to bear arms to protect our Republic....................
I just picked one up. My forever Jeep rifle. #thumbsup!
I've got a plain vanilla 10/22 with a wooden stock. I installed a Williams Peep Sight set and I love it. With the screw in aperture it helps great for long distance shooting and I manage to hit a 12" plate I have at 200 yards easily.
I think this take-down model will be the next one I buy when my son is old enough to shoot.
As always, well done in this video.
Just bought this gun! Cant wait to use it.
My first gun too btw :)
Those deer grew up listening to Hickok shoot. It's amazing what deer can get used to. I've had deer walk by, about 30 yards away, grazing and calmly watching us shoot sporting clays at Nemacolin resort in PA. The sound of the shotguns didn't bother them at all.
hickok45 is EXCELLENT. I have watched more of his videos than any other. Please keep him posting!
I grew up learning to shoot with a Marlin Model 99 .22LR and in the course of nearly 20 years of shooting it, there was never any significant problems that I can remember.
I own two have a couple BX-25 mags and I love 'em! I also have a couple carbines too have never had an issue of it jamming or misfiring. Changed over the iron sights to firesights for these old eyes and have tried a cheap scope and everything functions smoothly, I think your becoming a 10/22 take-down convert, sounded like you were having too much fun! Shame you didn't catch the deer behind you! Thanks for the Great Channel!
I have a variety of firearms and hands down my ruger 10/22 is one of my favorites. And the ammo was easy to collect by the thousands so. Customizing them is one of the fun bits too.
I keep mine stored in my "I'm Not Coming Home" bag, along with a Sparkie Fire starter w/wet fire, a small fishing kit, fillet knife, and 3 Yo-Yo reels, in the Ruger case. Its like a mini survival kit within a survival kit. I have a Bushnell 3-9x rimfire scope on it, but I haven't done any bench rest testing. I zeroed it with a cheap, spring-loaded, clip-on bi-pod but it holds zero even after you take it apart, stuff it in the case, stuff it in an INCH bag, and store it away for a few months.
Never tire of watching Ruger 10/22 being fired. Ruger came out with the best gun ever.......
God Bless
I like when I see a gun I own in one of your videos. Couldn't be happier with my 10/22 Take-Down.
Has been flawless for me so far.
Hickok45 for President!..Love your vids ol' chap. Greetings, from Central California..
Mr kickcok 45 I also have a number of 22
In fact I have 3 ruger 22 I have one that was manufactured in 1964 and it looks like brand new I also have one in the bull barrel and one in a feather lite
And my new baby is a Ruger precision 22 and in all of my 22's they shoot aguila super extra 40 grain and at 50 yards I can shoot a nickel size group and at 100yards it a little over a inch
Ruger's are and is one of the best 22's on the market
Thank You for loaning me your ear 👂
I like your channel
Keep up the fantastic work
I can believe it. I've put about 1000 rds thru mine. Cleaned it once at 500 rds. I only use CCI mini mags but I haven't had a single malfunction with the stock Ruger BX-10 magazines. But I had a few jams in one day while trying "other" magazines and another day when I tried some old ammo! So the magazine and ammo can definitely make a difference. With CCI Mini Mags and stock Ruger magazines I just don't expect any issues.
I see no reason why people from outside the U.S. wouldn't watch hickok45.
I'm a subscriber from Europe (Czech rep.). The laws are definitely stricter here (gun registration, gun licence), but owning pretty much anything except full auto weapons isn't a problem once you get over a bit of bureaucracy.
It is a really cool rifle, that's why I bought one. It has an intriguing appeal to it.
Hickok I keep up with your videos pretty good but I was slow to watch this one. I'm glad to see you coming around and liking the 10/22 better now days. My dad bought me one as my first rifle years ago. My 1st long gun was a 410 shotgun because he wanted to watch me a little longer safety wise before I got the added range of a rifle. Anyhow, dad passed away n 09 and I would really like to see you do a video on his favorite 22 if you have or can get your hands on one. That would be a Remington nylon 66. Later they ha the 77 which was magazine fed instead of tube fed. I know enough of folks around here like them so I think it would make for a great video if you could pull it off. There was even a exact copy made by cbc. I'm actually not too far down the road and also a TN resident so if you need some help I might even loan you one to do a video, just a thought anyways. Life is good!
I was worried the accuracy would be off once you break it down and put it back together but it never has been yet. This rifle is perfect for my backpack when we go on our annual hiking trip this fall.
Watching for almost 3 yrs now..... but ain't never got old! 👌👍more fun shooting legend!
Wow, hickok, your aim is superb! I just got one of these partly due to your videos, but I haven't shot it much because of the stupid 22 shortage (november 2015 tampa). I tried some 3 shot bursts like yours at the range (not supposed to do more than 2, heh), and I can say with due certainty that you're a hell of a shot man. And you're standing!
This is by far my favorite hickok video
A small recoiling rifle like that is perfect to practice shooting from your off side and that is something I would make my soldiers do every time we would go to the range it is a good practice but like always another good video hick
Sure is! We didn't notice that until you all started pointing it out here in comments.
I wish the 10/22 has a last shot hold open.
Count your shots lol
Smiling :-)
My 10/22 is a 1968 model I bought from a friend for 35 dollars 1969.
God is good to me and mine!
I have a 64 year old Remington bolt action that I love dearly. This makes me hesitant to use any other .22, however, upon using a friends on the farm I just had a blast. I may have to pick this one up.
After watching many of your videos, I realize that one of the things I like is that you hit your target. Watching someone shoot 10 rounds at a gong and only hit it once wouldn't be fun.
Picking mine up tomorrow! Can't wait! Adding a scope and see through scope rings.
The take down feature makes it a great backpacking and camp rifle.
Cool 10-22 Hickok! I'll have to get one of these to shoot with my older 10-22.
Makes cleaning the bore much easier on the Takedown model and the rifle is more accurate than earlier 10/22's.
My next gun . The
model 11112 with shortened barrel but a nice flash suppressor and a blued (?) finish on said barrel. Love the sound of cecadas. I'll check back in 17 years. I'll only be 85.
My father had 2 of these take down models. Neither one would stay zeroed with a scope between uses. He ended up getting one of the target models instead. I have a standard model that is 25 years old, and is an excellent gun.
I've put about 2,000 rounds through mine, cleaning it once, and have not had a single malfunction. Ruger makes a great .22 rifle :).
Its a nice surprise to come home from work to have a great video to watch. Thanks Hickok for all the videos.
I use a cheap Simmons scope and it returns to the correct position when reassembled. Great fun gun! I also am looking to get the new 2 1/2 pound trigger.
I purchased a nice short bag for my td1022. it's short and has room to store ammo etc, and. even fits with my scope mounted. Also you can purchase a hundred round circular magazine that fits the 1022. I saw a video of it on youtube.
Nice shooting review, thank you! Just bought the Ruger Takedown in Brown Mica with threaded barrel, some BX25 mags and a Ruger Laser, great package deal.
I'd like to see a chapter 3 with this rifle wearing the Magpul X-22 Backpacker stock.
yes, the deer running was a nice touch...even if it was impromptu...I've seen this video twice, and missed the deer both times. I really am starting like the take-down more and more...now I'm starting to try to figure out what doo-dads to hang off it, and just how much do I want to customize mine, when I get one...hmmm...
and as always:
semper fi, carry on!!
roger that, brother. ya cain't never have enough ammo, or too many guns...which pisses off the wifey when i pick more ammo and/or guns...lol!!
semper fi, carry on!!
The auto-bolt is really nice it took 3 minutes to install and while I was at it I installed a larger size aluminum magazine release very pleased with the results
you are one of the best youtubers, specially here in spain, where people can't buy a gun
My favorite two liter target is from Walmart and it's aptly named Red Tornado. Dr. Thunder has a kind of fitting name for a target, too.
11:03... That deer must have had some serious problems. He ran right behind the gong hickok was shooting at!
I went back and re-watched that part of the video multiple times. I was laughing so hard the first time I watched the video I had to make sure I saw what I thought I saw.
You sir are awesome, nice catch.
Air Rifle Reviews just watched this video for like the 3rd time (ordered my stainless/laminate TD this week) and just saw the deer for the first time! Pretty awesome!
He's right about the ammo. CCI seems to be the best I have shot thus far in my 22. Very consistent, which as Hickock45 mentions, is an issue with 22 ammo.
Glad to know I'm in good company encountering the same operational hiccups that hickok45 did.
Hickok45, thanks for videos! I enjoy your enthusiasm and I can tell you enjoy plinking and sharing the videos.
God Bless and take care!
Hickock, just a tip, if I were you would do the automatic release modification on your 10/22 bolt catch.
The automatic release mod allows you to lock the bolt back as you normally would, but to release it, all you have to do is pull the bolt back slightly and let go, just like you would on an M1A, or something similar , rather than fumbling around with the bolt release.. There a lot of good tutorials on youtube on how to do it and it literally only takes 5 minutes and a dremel.
Here in California I look at that row of 25 round magazines and drool as if I was looking at a delicious steak.
Buy one of these along with a Henry AR-7 - and just put both of them away for a rainy day!!!!! BTW, the AR-7 will fit neatly in the Ruger's bag so no need for an extra bag and both will fire the same ammo.
Outcome?? Heaven!!!
Why both?
It's a little deer. I'm "dogless" currently.
Now you can put the suppressed barrel on the takedown. Genius!
You should check out the Gemtech MIST barrel.
got a chance to shoot it at the range the other day and it was awesome! definetly worth the buy!
That deer had balls. He came down from the back of the range. Stood there and watched the commentary right behind the gong. And then leisurely strolled off into the woods. That deer is the bad ass of the group.
Hickok45 you must have one understanding and just all around great wife to let you keep all those guns. Thanks and God bless
i would definately recommend a ruger 10/22 as a first gun. even if its not the takedown version hes using. i have a regular 10/22 and i LOVE it, it'll shoot any brand ammo i load it with, nearly never malfunctions, has next to no recoil at all.. i highly recommend the 10/22 to anyone.
At 11:02 , soon as he finishes the 10rd magazine, a deer crosses in the background, that’s how safe they feel around hickcock. Wow.😂
HUGE FAN HICKOK. Love your work. And that's from the land down under. Good Job!
The Federal Auto Match ammo works awesome through my 10/22. The cases are very polished and cycles well, a little cheaper than CCI and performs about as well.
I can’t believe nobody is talking about the old man’s open sight shooting 😑☠️
I bought some Remington bucket bullets for my 10/22, prob shot at least a thousand rounds of it. So far and have not had any problems. It will shoot them as fast as you can load it.
iam 15 and will be getting mine for christmas this year and i thanku for reviewing this
guy comes into my work about every week and has a lot of problems with the end of the barrel mushrooming out he thinks because the bolt slams into it but it gives him a lot of problems with actually taking it apart, he has sent it back to the factory multiple times and still has issues with it. so definitely keep an eye out for that
Looks like a good backpacking rifle.
wow. ive always known deer to be so timid that they bolt at the smallest sound of a mousefart but to see one sitting there in a stupor while .22 caliber slugs are smacking steel only a few yards away is amazing. big balls, indeed.
The #1 reason I want a Ruger 10/22TD - it'll fit on my motorcycle with no ungainly bags or wierd looking contraptions. This gun, a Sub-2K, some handguns, and some ammo mean I can go to the range on my bike and enjoy the ride to/from as much as the shooting.
It fits nicely behind the seat of a bush plane in Alaska.
Good backpack weapon. Breaks down for carrying, and easy to setup for shooting...
I put some true glow sights and an upgraded stock on mine. Love the gun.
"Let no magazine go unloaded...unless it is loaded first."
That is classic Hickok!
I picked up the USA Shooting Team special edition of the take down recently, and I have to say I am a fan as well. I just need to get more of the BX25's like you have there.
About 3 or 4 years ago you couldn't get me to get a .22 caliber rifle, I always sneezed at the idea of having a .22 caliber weapon. Now I believe that all gun owners, preppers and survivalists should have some kind of .22 in their inventory. My personal preference for a .22 rifle though is a bolt action with iron sights (peep or V notch) and a detachable magazine holding 5 to 10 rounds.
Not sure if it is the same one but Ruger is making a special edition for the USA Shooting Team Foundation that has a blue stock, only 5000 will be made I believe. Other than that they are all pretty much the same with the exception of either a regular barrel or bull barrel.
Just got one of these over the summer.... LOVE it.
Really, not a single malfuntion. I've been using Federal Blue Box Champion in combination with the Ruger BX-25 mags (the mags are stellar).
There is a drop in piece that allows you to slingshot the bolt after you lock it to the rear. check out Volquartsen auto bolt release. Great vid as always Hickok, glad to see you coming around about the 10/22.
This rifle is amazing, ZERO recoil, it's like shooting a toy.
Hey thanks for the tip I've heard of the Tactical 22 packages before but I thought they were lower quality and or power. Knowing they're just repackaged mini mags is nice!
Been going the higher priced spread on the .22's for a while now.Just makes more sense.Back in the 80's-90's the hi-cap mags for the 10-22 were problematic. But in all honesty for the past 5 yrs. or so the Butler Creek mags,(with the steel feed lips),have been quite reliable.Out of a box of 10 we havent had any issues with them in 4 different 10-22's.I think overal QC is improving on the rifles, mags and ammo in order to stay competitve on the market.
Best gun ever! Everyone should have at least 3 in household.
love the deer walking out behind the gong at the end
Yes, it has been called the assassin's caliber of choice. And the largest Grizzly bear kill ever recorded was with a .22LR. You can kill anything in North America with it, but shot placement is the key. You definitely don't want to have to use it for self defense, but you could take any game animal with it in a survival situation if you had to...though killing deer with a .22 is illegal.
The largest grizzly bear kill ever recorded was with a .22 LR!? Get the hell out of here, lol. That's very hard to believe. Are you serious?
