      Thank you for wonderful information. I saw Chiropractor about 4 years ago for lower hip pain from an injury after work. If I don’t volunteer to tell the recruiter about this problem because I don’t have any pain when I do push up, sit up or any exercises. Hey thanks for the info Jody! So had a quick question, after serving 10 years and deploying as a Civil Affairs Specialist I was let go from the Army Reserves as an E-5 due to going through some personal hardships resulting in me self-medicating with cannabis and receiving a General Discharge Under Honorable Conditions.. would it be possible for me to enlist into Active Duty Air Force still? I'm 27, 10 years Army Reserve, with a Criminal Justice Degree. Thanks in advance!

    • @Jodywithawhy
      @Jodywithawhy  2 года назад +10

      Unfortunately because of the cannabis use, this would deem you ineligible for Air Force service. This isn’t a waiverable thing either, the Air Force has a zero tolerance on this. I’m sorry man, but I hope this helps.

      To be honest, I would prefer the Air Force retains its zero tolerance policy on ALL illegal drugs, whatsoever. Back in '75, the DEP worked perfectly for me. I took the oath on 3 Sep '75 and went active duty on 3 Dec '75. That allowed me enough time to complete Basic Training just in time to get to my Tech School in February '76. Those 3 months DEP also counted toward my Time in Service which meant my pay was slightly higher than someone of the same rank with no DEP time. I went in with a "guaranteed job" and the Air Force kept their word. No regrets! I'm proud to have served.

    1) when I was 18 back in 2010 I got caught with a joint roach and had 6 months probation but got the misdeamonor expunged since it was my first and only offense ever, will this be an issue?
    2) Is there an issue if my wife is not a citizen yet? I've been here since birth but she has not and we are in the process of getting her citizenship, but obviously that might take a while. Will she be able to travel with me?
    Any insight would be helpful

    • @Jodywithawhy

      The roach could cause a little bit of delay. It will depend on if your recruiter wants to work with you or not. I would recommend you reach out to a recruiter and explain the situation to see if they’d be willing to do a waiver for you.

    What annoyed me the most about my recruiter is, he filled out my form for me with me answering the questions in person (which I didn’t know I had to fill out) and when it came to asthma and broken bones/surgery, I told him I had asthma but grew out of it when I was around 18 so he checked no, when asked about surgery I said yes bc I broke my hand when I was 18 (over 10 years ago) and got it fixed, and he checked no. His explanation was it was over 10 years ago so there was no need to check yes for both of the medical stuff. When I went to meps and spoke with the doctor they brought it up grilled me about why I “lied” and sent me home. I explained that he checked no for me on both those questions and that I did in fact tell him about it so they made me write a detailed written statement. Idk why but it took over a year to get all my waivers approved but I’ll be going back to meps on Wednesday. It was a LONG process and he barely kept me informed about what was going on.

    • @Jodywithawhy
      @Jodywithawhy  3 года назад +2

      I honestly have no idea Lindsay. With things like cancer, it’s always a toss up. What I would recommend is gather every medical record possible you can find, and have a recruiter submit them up to MEPS for a chief medical officer to look at.
      They’ll either approve you, or deny you. If they deny you, then have the recruiter submit your records to the surgeon general of the Air Force. That’ll be final determination for your medical history. If they deny you, then most likely you’ll never be able to join, but the only way to know is to try. I made a video on medical waivers. If you haven’t seen it already, maybe this could help you understand the process a little better. Good luck and keep updated if you try. 🤙🏽🤙🏽ruclips.net/video/ynKjsxegEPE/видео.html

      As far as recruiters go, you definitely can change, but since you’re already working with a recruiter, most recruiters won’t work with you until you are no longer working with that recruiter. They also pay a monthly stipend for you to live off of. You can find that amount by googling BAH calculator. Then search for the zip code you’ll be attending school. That’ll tell you how much of a stipend you’ll make while going to school. While actively serving, you also receive $4,500 in tuition assistance every year. Hi, question. I want to do the HPSP but the recruiter said the Air Force wants me to be in a none competitive agreement with the other branches basically dropping all other applications and trusting only the Air Force with NO GUARANTEE that I will get one of the 3 or 4 spot available. But the timeline doesn’t make sense as Dental school decides for applicants in December but the Air Force gives out the spots by October…AND with the minimal spots while other branches have more spots I don’t feel safe putting all my eggs in one basket and forking my possible growth and financial stability. 1. Why is the Air Force so stuck up and “elite” in their approach? (At least it seems so) And 2. Why do they have to do business in such a cutthroat fashion by giving qualified applicants a clause for a none competitive agreement with the applicant? it seems like a toxic work environment right off the gates and I feel like as an applicant I have everything to loose in the exchange while they loose nothing. This makes me not want to do the HPSP through the Air Force but I wouldn’t mind serving….IF the deal was fair. I mean, if they want me to do a NCA then they should do a contract agreement ready to sign for me because it’s highly unfair to an applicant to trust wholly with no promises. Can you clarify? The HPSP is highly competitive and I don’t know why the Air Force would do this to applicants. Navy and Army are chill and basically allow you to make your own choices. No none competitive agreements. And both navy and army medicine are top notch. Please clarify?

Most recruiters have quotas and they'll bend over backwards for anybody who comes in, but this recruiter I went to, he had this detached, indifferent kind of attitude like, what are you doing here? When I said, I wanted to go in the air force, he was like, what for? So I went down the hall to the navy and dang near got attacked, they sat me right down and piled on the pressure to sign up and weren't about to let me go. Then the army recruiter grabbed me on the way out and called me into his office, too, but I'd already decided on the navy

No one told him he Had to answer the phone if he was in the middle of an appointment. I would have been okay with leaving a voicemail even though I’d expect him not to respond. I refused to call him back and decided to go Army National Guard instead. The atmosphere in the Army National Guard recruiting office was more welcoming. I went ahead and signed up for the Army National Guard and I don’t regret it.

If you go in there looking lost and just "shopping around" they will ignore because there are loads of applicants wanting to get in for a reason.
