    Jody, I can't tell you how helpful and meaningful your videos are. Do you think you could do a video eventually on: a) the process of moving from your home (without or with a family, as in my case) from the time of BMT through Tech School till you get to your actual assignment? AND b) what careers in the AF translate to the best jobs in the civilian world? For instance, some jobs in the AF are more blue-collar or technical whereas some are definitely white-collar? I'm thinking paralegal or medical could give you invaluable training and experience for a job in the civilian world. No judgment on any career field on my part of course! Just very interested in that correlation. Thanks for all that you do!

      Those are both really great ideas. I personally try to stay away from job specifics because I can make a job sound good, someone hears me and gets locked on that job. When you join a reserve unit, you have to attend the monthly drills wherever that reserve unit is located. So if it isn’t close to home, you’ll have to travel to where it is. Does that answer your question??

      They don’t recruit specifically for PJ anymore. They recruit for special warfare candidates. Meaning you qualify to make the special warfare standards, and after basic training you’ll go to a pipeline. If you successfully complete the pipeline, they will then determine what special warfare career you go to school for. They are all hard. PJ is the hardest physically.

      @@Jodywithawhy My son was sworn in at MEPS this week. He selected water and fuel system maintenance as his job and I’m literally depressed. I work for the gov with many retired veterans. I’ve been told that the job is basically like a plumber for the Air Force. I know my son will not be happy doing this. He is a gamer type that spends most of his time on computers. He scored a 81 on the ASVAB. I specifically asked his recruiter before he went to MEPS if he would have the option to change jobs after MEPS and was told he could. I was worried he would be coaxed into something. Now the recruiter is singing a different tune. My son is a good kid that really wants to be apart of something great. I feel like I’ve failed him because I could not be with him to make sure he made good decisions at MEPS. I just want him to be happy. The recruiter advised today that my son probably will not be outside much and dealing with poop is not a major part of the job, but I’m hearing different. I don’t know if I should just have my son walk away from this opportunity. Do you have any suggestions or should I give up. I’m a single mom and felt like the Air Force would give my son structure and discipline. I’ve never had any behavioral issues with him, but always felt guilty he didn’t have any worth while role models (my dad and brothers never had steady jobs). Guess I just needed to vent. Pray for me.

    • @Jodywithawhy
      @Jodywithawhy  2 года назад +3

      This is really unfortunate for you all. I know you want what’s best for your son, but you have to trust that the Air Force will help your son grow into an adult. They will train him, give him the discipline and structure he needs, and who knows, he actually may enjoy that job.
      I told my recruiter I would do anything but maintenance. I ended up taking an open electrical contract. Meaning I wouldn’t know my job until I got to basic training. When I got there, the only jobs that were available were maintenance jobs. I freaked out, expressing to everyone “I’m not a maintainer”.
      Anyway, I go to tech school learn my job, and graduated top of my class. I also did really well at my job and enjoyed. What I’m trying to say is we don’t know what you’re son will like. But we do know the Air Force will give him everything he needs. If he doesn’t like his job, he can cross train 12 months out from the end of his contract into another job. Just give it time and watch him grow. 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
