BTS used Carl Jung's analytical psychology to write the lyrics and make the official MV. It talks about accepting our shadows, which are those repressed parts of us. We can only evolve when we truly accept these repressed parts of ourselves. That's why the lyrics say "leave me with my everything" Only when we accept everything that is part of us can we find peace.
By the way, the drums announce. the battle that will be faced... just as it was in the Middle Ages that soldiers were warned to prepare for battle with drums

Love the "this song's gotta get more recognition" comment. Truth is On actually gets quite a bit of recognition through it's through the Kinetic Manifesto performance video which gets recommended more often than the actual music video. In my mind, ARMY has dropped the ball by focusing primarily on BTS's ability to execute high level circus while ignoring the fact that BTS delivers messaging like no other group in the K Pop scene. This mv focuses on multiple levels of messaging, most focal being Karl Jung's concept of subconscious Shadow emotions leaking into the conscious Psyche creating the need to confront the pain and in Jung's words individuate. It literally tells a story from the scene of mental warfare with peace being destroyed symbolized by a dove with an arrow through the heart to the dark dance break of members actually going through the individuation process to the resulting verdant new normal as the vegetation greens and members climb a rock edifice to the sky.
I am glad you chose to watch the mv as recommendations more often than not push the Kinetic Manifesto performance video. K Pop is structured on the visual and in particular motion. In my somewhat unpopular opinion that can be had throughout the industry even if BTS on the whole does it better. Unfortunately, recommenders having the trust in that you or any other reactor can actually be stimulated to approach the song's meaning (which is what sets BTS apart from their fellows) seems less common. I have yet to hear one Kinetic Manifesto reactor discuss meaning to any significant degree. The result is On becomes a celebration of performance. Doing that without having messaging included is in my mind a bit parochial. Kudos to you for engaging the mv though the allegories may be difficult without an explanation video.
