I know I kind of talked through the changes that I made to the pickle recipe I found, but currently, what we're working with so far is:
    ¾ cup vinegar
    ¾ cup water
    2 tbs sugar
    1 tbs salt
(boil this to dissolve salt + sugar)
    put in a jar:
as much dill as makes you happy
a dash of red pepper flakes
    2-4 cloves of fresh garlic
as many cucumber spears as you can fit
and then pour the water on top and refrigerate for 24 hours ideally!

Recipe tip. I have a notebook/journal that I use to copy down recipes we like. I number the pages and made an index bullet journal style. Also write the date I put the recipe in. Then I can find them again. I also write the website or wherever it came from. Then I have all the go to recipes together and don’t lose them. Also fun to revisit old things we’re were obsessed with but then forgot all about. Fellow ADHD person here who can forget what we made for dinner last week. It’s like I’ve been having dinner my whole life but can’t remember what we like to eat. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I do all of the laundry as well due to everyone’s various neurodivergences. For some reason I am the person who can remember that laundry needs to be switched over. It’s fine, though. There are other things that I have noped out of that other people cover. I live in a house with 4 people with a combination of autism and ADHD, so it is a challenge over here at times. I really enjoy your low key videos like this, by the way. They are super realistic and don’t make me feel bad about preferring to stay in and get things done. Congrats on your baby tomatoes!

I had a moment when a neighbor who is 6 months ahead of me on the widow’s journey advised me of a couple of things that made her life easier so I bought them. 1. A small rice cooker and 2. An egg cooker. I love poached eggs but never get them right. I even bought a little scoops devise to start them in and it was a complete fail. The cooker makes poached eggs too. Anywho, I spent under $50 for both of them together. Very cheap. Now I have to find a space for them in my cupboards. Am getting rid of my magic bullet set - makes small smoothies and salad dressings, etc. I have never used it in over 20 years. There are 6 containers so it takes up a lot of room.. although I did not spend a lot of money, I am determined to make these purchases worthwhile. Since my life situation has changed, I have to change systems too. I have had to change everything about my life. Lots to think about all the time. Oh, and 2 most excellent news items: first, my friend loves to sell stuff online and he has just retired and is looking for something to occupy his time. I have about 6 cartons marked for Craif’s list or marketplace”ace that have been untouched for 13 years since we moved here. He is going to take them and see if he can sell them and I am giving him 50% of the profits. Hopefully so much will be gone at the end of this. Second, my former DIL is an interior designer and she and my granddaughter are going to come over in 2 weeks and get my craft room organized. May be looking at destashing some yarn on Ravelry but I do love my stash a lot. We’ll see how good I am at letting go. I am just so thankful for the help.

@gracenevitt Thank you! Moved to a new city (near where I used to be, though), and moved in with my partner! Things are good! 😁
Also, I've been on the low-buy train. Your videos have been great motivation for me to actually track spending/retirement/etc and pay attention to budgeting and understanding where my money is going.
I got incredibly into minimalism when I was like 22, about 8 years ago, and a lot of things about low-buy/no-buy are things I already have incorporated for a long time, but the reminders are really wonderful.
Also, when you wouldn't let the "drink water NOW" not be listened to, I begrudgingly drank half my Nalgene, so thanks for that too!

Had to jump in right at the start of the video as I have been making homemade pickles for the majority of my married life - which was 57 years. I used to make homemade dill pickles with my mother-in-law for many years. So delicious! There is nothing like them. We opened our first jar on Thanksgiving after making them in the summer. I also used to make my own sweet pickle relish - once again - nothing else tastes life it. And in later years my friend and I have made refrigerator pickles, which are kind of a bread and butter pickle. I have all of the recipes. Fair warning - you will have to invest in some equipment to make them but because they are pickled, they do not require a big canner. They do require the right kind of jars, lids and seals as well as the ingredients to make them. I am almost positive that it is much cheaper to buy them at the store but the taste just can't compare. If you want any or all of the recipes, please let me know by reply and I will look them up for you. My MIL's dill pickle recipe pre-dates 1900. You will get mighty hot doing it but so worth the effort.

eventually I would love to try doing it the proper way, but currently, with no equipment, I'm very happy to just be making my refrigerator pickles for now :) if you'd like to share the dill pickle recipe I'll gladly save it for down the road

Try quickles I haven't quite gotten around to them my self, but if you have a whiped cream canister you can apparently make pickles inside of it that are called quickles.

    • @gracenevitt
      @gracenevitt  2 месяца назад

I'd consider these "quickles" because they're pretty much perfect and ready to go in 24 hours. I'd maybe just suggest eating them in about a week or two because they're not properly sanitized and sealed and all that jazz and idk how long they'd last.

If I had to hand wash all my dishes I would just use one plate and one cup all day and just keep washing it after each use. 😂 Might suck in the moment to put forth the effort to wash it right after eating but at least it would keep the sink from piling up. But that wouldn’t really solve the problem of the amount of dishes used from actually cooking the meals 🤔

I can't lie, I've either decluttered or forgotten a lot of things that I've been "influenced" to buy (and that's just via trends, not specific influencers) because I've been mindful of sustainability for a while, so I genuinely think the only things on that list would be a hydroflask and some shoes maybe lol
