- This video shows how to pull out a fully retracted film leader from a 35mm cassette using the film leader retrieval tool available from our eBay store: www.ebay.co.uk.... This can be done in bright daylight without fear of fogging the film. Works on all 35mm film cassettes. Useful if you accidentally rewind a film fully into the cassette or need to extract the film for developing in the darkroom.
I followed the instructions repeatedly without success. In frustration, I looked at a few other videos on this topic and learned that you need to remove the picker very quickly in the final step.
Had the same issue. Pulling quickly made it work, thanks for the tip!
Pulling out quickly didn’t work for me, can’t figure out the proper technique.
Worked like a charm. Make sure to get all the 3 tabs into the cassette at the beginning and make sure to pull out the film fast at the end.
Thank you! The very video I was looking for. So easy! So simple.
Years ago I used to be a dab hand at this using a paperclip. It scratched the leader to bits and sometimes would tear it off but eventually I'd fish the leader (or what remained of it) out. Today I tried the old trick and the skill has gone. Can't do it any more! Hence why I am here. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was sitting here looking at this thing with the name 'Sorak' with no idea what it was. Now I do! I've just begun using a medium format camera and gear that I inherited along with bits an pieces, and I guess sooner or later I'll need it. Thanks so much!
You're welcome :-)
Brilliant, no two hour long introduction into how film is made, why there are film leaders or a stupid slide show; no, just pure instructions. Brilliant. The instructions on mine show only the last bit putting the leader out, nothing on how to get to that stage. On mine, all three blades are plastic and there is no need to pull quickly (as I have seen people do elsewhere) because it always comes out, regardless of speed (1cm/s will do it).
Thanks for the refresher! Bought one of these models decades ago and simply forgot how it worked exactly! And the diagram on the side is fairly useless. The ‘click’ is the trick!
I, too, have an old extractor and had forgotten how to use it. However, I would characterize the diagram as "completely", not "fairly", useless. You're right. It is the click that is the trick.
Perfect. Thank you.
best tutorial ever.
Thanks for a simple how-to video!
