    Spent 13 years in Fairbanks AK working for an Air Taxi operation, we had one DC-3, 7 Navajo's, 4 Beech 99's and two King Air 200's, the 99's and King Airs all had belly pods. Many of the villages we flew to had gravel strips. At this stage of the game Im sure somebody makes rock deflectors for the main gear on the Kodiak, just like the Cessna Caravan, without those, rocks will quickly destroy the deice boots on the horizontal stabs. But what we discovered is that the rocks coming off the nose gear will destroy the front of the belly pods, we didn't have the technical ability to do it but everybody agreed that if somebody could actually vulcanize some rubber onto the front of the belly pods, that would be the ultimate solution . If theres a rotating beacon on the bottom of the belly pod like our aircraft had, you'll also have to fabricate and install an extruded wire mesh cage around that beacon, to keep the rocks from taking it out. Routinely operating aircraft from gravel strips is a learning process, just thought I would share a couple things I learned while working in AK, just in case Kodiak wanted to go after that market.

      Do you have the Kodiak 100? Notwithstanding, have you the capacity to convert the interior for patient transport.
      + stretcher and rollers (removable)
      + Oxygen
      + Bridge cradles for CPAT and ECG

    • @francroy3020

      John Fitzpatrick The Kodiak can be configured in multiple seat configurations (2-10). In PNG we utilize the Med-Pac Air Ambulance system which has internal O2 tank and can be configured for air and suction. The ceiling and sides of the passenger/cargo area have holders for cargo straps and/or D-rings for hanging saline bags, etc. Multiple oxygen ports in the passenger/cargo area for passengers and/or medical staff. With the MedPac mounted to the right side of the aircraft you can still install one seat aft of the Med-Pac and 3-4 along the left hand side. We also have a mount for equipment to monitor heart rate and 02 saturation for the patient.

    Flew these in northern Canada as a Canadian out of my IFR flight school. Perfect aircraft for off strip landings. Bullet proof, great in very cold weather . Love these birds. Time for a “kode500” plus version. Single engine but 20 feet longer. Always needed 1000 pounds more of payload for mining gear. The pt6 was fabulous. Stalling it was ALMOST, to impossible, even in a severe shake . I Think the “ kode” I flew for 400 hours had the regular tire type. The large tire model option looks versatile and awesome. Does Kodiak plan to compete with the new Cessna courier twin ? . Looks like a larger Twin Otter. Kodiak did well at 70-80 kts circles in valleys. Range was always short in the north where we needed6-7 hours at cruise with out stopping What is the range now? Terrific airplane.

    Introduced to this aircraft through MSFS. And it really can do everything, can't it. I love the power of the thing. I mean the power means it does require A LOT of trim, but it really is the definitive turboprop, I think. Longer range ones like the PC-12 or say the TBM don't have the versatility of this thing.

    I am sold! to be honest I have been sold sense the day the Kodiak came out. I have been getting even more sold by looking at other aircraft and by watching Missionary Bush Pilot (Ryan) videos. There really is not another plane that can do what this one does; many try but miss the mark in some way! I do have questions: I know the 29 inch tire are big, However I have seen video of Ryan sinking into the soft mud grass. Would it be possible to have even bigger tires or would that disrupt aerodynamics or some other consideration?

    “What makes the prop great is it’s ground clearance”.... well I guess that is super important seems obvious the prop you pick should clear the ground. Haha I don’t know why but that is my main takeaway. Love the Quest, thanks for putting this together.

    • @christopherpardell4418
      @christopherpardell4418 5 лет назад +1

      Bush planes landing in rough areas can hit a chuck hole, or other obstacle that pitches the nose down. If the prop hits the ground, you are not taking off from that landing.
      This happens more than you might expect to Bush and back country pilots.

    I love how any Kodiak fan boys absolutely refuse to acknowledge that this is 100% inspired by the caravan. Yeah it might be a Touch better off field but there’s not a whole Lotta difference between the two to place them in separate categories let alone say there’s no other aircraft that does what the Kodak does

    • @jacobkeffer8437
      @jacobkeffer8437 2 года назад +1

      Could it not also be inspired by the turboprop otter from dehavilland? Thay are awfully similar lol

    • @stevenrojas8251
      @stevenrojas8251 2 года назад +1

      Exactly my thoughts, in this video alone they are saying how they came up with some design features for the aircraft when in reality they are a 100% copy from the caravan, for example: the cargo door made with pallets in mind is exactly the same as in the caravan, it even opens up the same way, the innovating interconnected suspension the caravan has had for years, the high air intake for off airport terrain, the freaking cargo pods, and finally saying that there was no other turboprop airplane capable for off airport operations...c'mom thats just going too far.
      I like the kodiak, and also the caravan, i've flown both because my airline has both (because they do the same type of flying to the same terrain type airports) and I understand this is a selling purpose video, but stop claiming kodiak designed this airplane from scratch and that there is no similar airplane on the market, thats just straight up bs

    Can you have both a cargo pod and floats? Is there a lav?

      no lav. I do not know the answer to the other question but I have not seen it with the pod and floats in pictures.

    You make this seem like there is zero reasons to ever have any other airplane.

      There is zero reason to have any other bush airplane and I will add in Papua New Guinea . That does not mean that other bush planes were/are bad it just mean that the Kodiak edges them all out for the job it was meant to do. Here in the states I would likely own an American Champion Aurora; my goal being to own a production airplane that flies at vary little cost. I would not be putting 10 people in or even filling the second seat! Your precise needs and goals are part of what makes an airplane better or not and the Kodiak is the best at what it does. When there is room the Viking Twin Otter 400 may win over the Kodiak ....

    I believe this plane is a late arrival compare with the PC12 and Caravan, What can this plane do that the other two cannot. Choosing the PT-6 is a no brainer, this engine is quieter than the straight through types, they hogged 70% of the small turbine market and they feel they have the right to be the dead beat when it came to adding modern automation to the engine. They were about 2 decades behind everyone adding FADEC, auto throttle, one button start etc.despite they have a parent company that did much of the R and D work. finally they were kicked off their butt by GE a new competitor on the horizon. You cannot sit on your butt on an active railroad track forever. 3 choices, 1). get off and let competitor pass, 2) keep up to the speed of traffic, such as GE, 3) get run over.

    96" prop? How tall are you anyway? looks 72" max to me. That cannot be 8 feet tall tip to tip. I mean I have read the specs, but seeing you beside it makes the prop look 2' shorter than spec. Hey, I wonder what else I thought was smaller isn't? Got to go!

    • @scottsoper
      @scottsoper 3 года назад +1

      Only DRACO beats the Pilatus PC-6 tail dragger! However the Kodiak beats them both for the job it was meant to do. The PC-6 is vary good! The Kodiak is just a bit better from all directions for the job!

      The kodiak is more expensive but does have the same qualities of a 208 but it has the luxury of a private jet
