Love the video! The lens is super dreamy and beautiful. A quick suggestion about the VO - I don’t know what you’re recording setup is like, but honestly it just sounds to me like you’re eating the mic a little bit. Before you go out and buy a bunch of stuff, or spend hours fussing around with EQ and post-processing, try experimenting with mic placement. Where to place your mic depends on the polar pattern, but also your room, and how much you feel like projecting your voice. I’d recommend starting at least 8” away, and testing back from there.
If there's a channel that makes justice to the feel of this lens, definitively it's this one. I really loved your approach to this review, and I'm at awe at the visual quality of every frame. Great work as always!
liking the softness and the discussion points. A good review not just saying in my view good or bad but explaining the benefits and how you can get the best out of the lens and what you would use it for. Buying or investing in lenses is and can be expensive so reviews are really useful. Thank you
What a gorgeous lens with so much texture! I've always loved the soft look of vintage film and this lens nails that so well. Fantastic video Brandon, thank you!
wow, this lens is cinematic x 10. It's funny how you said it made you excited about shooting, because for the longest time I've been bored shooting because of how my lenses are either too sharp, or my hacks to soften them look like a smudgy mess. But this lens nails the sweetspot. Also, love your work Brandon, have since the early days of LTT.
I ordered the black version the day it went up on their website. Now have to endure the torture of having to wait for an email from Lens Light Labs advising that it’s been sent….I can’t wait!!! This video has just got me even more impatient for my own to arrive!
I bought this on pre-order. First images out of it were amazing. It is an incredible lens for this price. I bought some other Light Lens Lab lenses in the past. But this to me is my new favorite.
Brandon! Thank you so much for this video! I was thinking about getting one when I saw the first post in Leica Classifieds, but just couldn't justify it with the sample images they provided!
For creative control this lens be used with a mat box with flags. In the case of your M10, Smallrig makes a carbon fiber flag with a flexible arm that attaches to the hot shoe.
WOW the photography is amazing! Time to go hunting for alternate vintage lenses that roughly capture a similar look. Super cool, and your voice over was great kept me engaged :D
Been following you for a while now. My first was the URSA mini review that you'd made- absolutely loved the intro! Tuning into Brandon specials ever since. Keep going!
Wow, beautiful review of a beautiful lens. I have a set of Lomo standards that are replica of the same lens. Do these cover full frame or s35? If s35, have you tested in full frame?
Watching this while scanning film, a truly zen experience. I must say, that the example shots are art! Well done on a great showcase of this fantastic looking lens!
I loved the video Brandon. Just one thing: is the vintage look straight from the camera? or achived in editing? I think it would be cool to include some RAW images in future reviews...
I did edit the photos for color and exposure but nothing has been changed texture wise. So the lens is doing the heavy lifting to get the vintage vibe.
Great video, could you also make videos about sub 650cad fuji lenses, I'll hopefully be picking up a x-t30 ii in the next week or two and I still haven't decided on a starting lens that can do a wide rage of shooting styles. This will be my first camera with an interchange lens and I want to have a good first impression. Great video, keep it up.
Someone need to call on the emperor on that one, cause he has no cloths. You can practically get the same effect of shallow contrast and a dreamy look with some good vintage lenses at a fraction of the cost. There is a reason why Cook lenses were made for cinematography. They were not made for photos without context, they serve a plot, an era, and the backdrop.
So glad to see you still making content after LTT and also a coincidence since I just bought my first dedicated camera (Sony A7 III) and I'm now on the hunt lens reviews 🤣Keep up the great work Brandon and can't wait to see what you make in the future!
if people like that bloomy look wide open, i recommend the Nikon AI-s 50mm f1.4. soft wide open but sharpens up beautifully stopped down :) i use it on my Fuji.
Hey Brandon, could you do a “is m10 worth buying in 2023 video”? How it’s compares to newer m10p m10r or m11? Really thinking to pick one up since the price has really come down.
Fantastic as always video and lens showcase Shots were beautiful and editing was good, but audio was kinda weird. A bit of advice I'd like to give, is to downmix voiceover to mono, because on speakers it sounded wonky in this video, and to use audio gate to filter out mouth noises and breathing
The foggy look of some of your images reminds me a few of my vintage lenses that I had sent out for CLA. It does give a mysterious character to the subject that we do not find in the modern APO lenses. Wonder if it is better on film than digital?
Wait you have the Fujinon 50 f1? I remember you doing a video a long time ago. How do you like it now? I’ve had mine for a couple years now and I’ve gotten some nice shots with it. But I’ve always been annoyed at the high amount of lateral CA (is that what it’s called?). And now that I have the Viltrox 75 1.2, which is several times cheaper and has much less CA, I’m beginning to get even more annoyed with the 50. I will keep the 50 though, because it’s able to get me photos that none of my other lenses can. Do you still use yours?
Usually I don't go for chinese manual lenses because most of them are ... cheap crap, to be blunt. But LLL seems to really be a bunch of nerds and I love it. They just get it. So, I guess after holding out on their earlier products this time I'll have to order one. You are costing me money. ..... Dammit, Brandon! xD
This pretty much describes the optical characteristics of the Meyer Optik Gorlitz Oreston/Pentacon 50mm f/1.8. Either can be had for about US$100. You should try one if you haven't already. Be that as it may, the Light Lens Lab is a beauty. I wanted one of their 50mm f/2 Elcan replicas in M mount but waited too long. Congratulations on your new lens.
Just bought this lens, can't wait to test it and compare to Contax 50mm F/1.4. Based on the sample i saw which shot with real Cooke Panchro II is really different than this lens. It is warmer look for this lens.
Hi Brandon. Thanks for the great review. Been playing around with my lens and I noticed something odd. Not sure if it's my copy or if it is normal as they say. If you go above f8 I notice a blue haze in the center of the frame? I reached out to Light Lens and this is what they told me: This is a normal phenomenon with original SPII as the internal reflection has caused the lens to have diffraction under low T-Stops. It is advise to not shoot SPII under F8. It was only very recently that we discovered this phenomenon. Either our production and distribution network was not aware of this phenomenon due to the lens usually being shot under f/8. Do you get this haze on your lens over f8? Thanks Brandon!
I'm curious how a lens like this would look shooting at Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park. My interest in photography and video sparked from how photogenic Disney always felt while I was there with family. HS is themed like 50's Hollywood already, capturing that in the same cinematic theme sounds right.
Great video. The plosives in the voiceover are a bit distracting though. If you back up from the mic and use a pop filter it'll cure those. iZotope also makes a de-plosive plugin that's helpful
Very beautiful, for the really really budget conscious, the Asahi Takumar 50mm 1.4 comes close to this look. As of this writing it goes for about $100 USD more-or-less.
I'm really curious how artificial contrast (e.g. a lightroom slider) plays with this lens-- would love to see some shorts or detailed vids on your editing workflow with new products. Great video, thanks Brandon!
that is a good lens despite being ''bad''. That is why I like the Summilux 35 pre-asph v2, CV Heliar 50 1.5 and Zeiss Sonnar. All are ''perfectly bad'' :)
Incredible lens! Ive been waiting for this one to come out however in waiting I managed to come across Lomography’s Re-dux of the Jupiter 3, very similar results and also is multicoated. If I didnt have the Jupiter 3+, I would of definitely picked this one up.
I love this video. This lens is definitely not my taste unfortunately, reminds me of the Nikko 50 1.4 I had which always annoyed me with its defects and general smudginess when wide open. Looking forward to see more content!
Great review of what appears to be a great lens with a great history. I already paid on pre-order based on Ted of The Art of Photography’s review of a preproduction lens. This lens suits my style of photography which will supplement my other Leica lenses. Although current lenses are clinically sharp with high contrast, this doesn’t suit me for my use. Although I love my 28mm, I wanted to get back using a 50mm more….after all I got started in photography using that focal length. Keep up with your great reviews….try the Light Lens Lab f/2 35mm 8 element in LTM39 mount, hear it is a great reproduction of Leica’s 35mm Sumicron.
Hi Brandon. Really beautiful :-) Lens and the video. On another note: I still remember when you were so excited from Xperia 1 Mark IV. Are you planning to review or try the new one with the whole new sensor Xperia 1 Mark V? I think Sony just created the best phone for photography and cinema.
As others have said, audio is a bit messed up. There's also a lot of popping on P's and T's and such, so maybe a pop filter for your mic would be a good idea. The sentence at 2:48 is a good example of some pops. Other than that, I really enjoyed the video and your perspective on the lens.
Mind the low view count Brandon. I think I will learn how to use my EOS RP right here at this channel - thank you for creating such high quality content. And an EOS RP review would be nice :P
Hey guys! Appreciate the feedback about the VO. I’m still learning about audio so please bear with me. I hope you can enjoy the video despite it.
pin your comment brandon, so more viewers can see it
@@adibafiq6945 Odd I thought it was pinned, thanks for the catch!
Love the video! The lens is super dreamy and beautiful.

I think your VO is fine, people are just being dramatic 😅
American Psycho?

Oh, man. I love the character that lens adds!
all of these images looked like they were taken from a movie, amazing
This will become one of my favorite channels for camera gear, this video is an amazing summary of the pros and cons
What a gorgeous lens with so much texture! I've always loved the soft look of vintage film and this lens nails that so well. Fantastic video Brandon, thank you!
Really nice vid! Love how you made it and love the still pictures you showed!
wow, this lens is cinematic x 10. The lens looks amazing and the images look perfect. Also the video is very well edited. A pleasure to watch!
Dam yeah that Lens is cinematic AF, great review of the lens, really get a feel for what it can do in capable hands.
Thanks for taking the time to make the video.
I bought this on pre-order. First images out of it were amazing. It is an incredible lens for this price. I bought some other Light Lens Lab lenses in the past. But this to me is my new favorite.
Came for the lens. Stayed for the video quality.
The voice audio sounds out of phase, not sure how that happened
Amazing content. Would love to see your photo editing process. Keep up the awsome work!
Love the images you've captured. Thanks for sharing.
Brandon! Thank you so much for this video! I was thinking about getting one when I saw the first post in Leica Classifieds, but just couldn't justify it with the sample images they provided!
the videography on this looks crazy!
For creative control this lens be used with a mat box with flags. In the case of your M10, Smallrig makes a carbon fiber flag with a flexible arm that attaches to the hot shoe.
i dont know much about lenses or even camera. i just love seeing people geeking out over things that they love. keep it going, man.
WOW the photography is amazing! Time to go hunting for alternate vintage lenses that roughly capture a similar look. Super cool, and your voice over was great kept me engaged :D
Great video, very informative. 😍😍😍😍 Were your images straight out of camera or colour graded?
Been following you for a while now. My first was the URSA mini review that you'd made- absolutely loved the intro!
Tuning into Brandon specials ever since. Keep going!
Man this lens is gorgeous. Super thorough review! 🎉❤
I want their 75mm speed panchro. Can't wait.
🔥🔥🔥 review. I’m interested in this lens
Awesome video Brandon, love seeing local in such a unique look.
Its so strange. I can tell the light of Vancouver immediately. Great video.
Looks like a wonderful lens!
I am so so excited for Brandon Lee content. Supporting you always brother! LTT fellas wya?
Wow, beautiful review of a beautiful lens. I have a set of Lomo standards that are replica of the same lens. Do these cover full frame or s35? If s35, have you tested in full frame?
Yeah they cover Full frame, my Leica M10 used for testing is Full Frame 35mm (Digital)
Watching this while scanning film, a truly zen experience. I must say, that the example shots are art! Well done on a great showcase of this fantastic looking lens!
I loved the video Brandon. Just one thing: is the vintage look straight from the camera? or achived in editing? I think it would be cool to include some RAW images in future reviews...

i really appreciate it
how am i just now finding your channel? i always enjoy your photography stuff on ltt
Great shots!
Super. Did you try any Stills with the Fuji or only video? As a fellow XH2S user I am keen to see how it performs on X Mount.
I preordered this from popflash. Can’t wait!
Awesome channel Brandon :)

THAT VIDEO QUALITY!
if people like that bloomy look wide open, i recommend the Nikon AI-s 50mm f1.4. soft wide open but sharpens up beautifully stopped down :) i use it on my Fuji.
Beautiful video!
it would be cool to see a review of a 7artisans lens, I just got one out of aliexpress and a lot of people say it’s pretty impressive for the price.
Hey Brandon, could you do a “is m10 worth buying in 2023 video”? How it’s compares to newer m10p m10r or m11? Really thinking to pick one up since the price has really come down.
Fantastic as always video and lens showcase

i was thinking it was a little strange too--i'm on a nice headphone setup but it's just a tad too intense when he's surrounding my head like that.
Headphones also sound a bit weird (albeit on Bluetooth), a bit left heavy.
I got one 2 weeks ago. Very interesting. Has a touch of everything.
Have an m9 btw
Love the video Brandon! At 5:10, what is the modifier you're working with? I've been trying to figure out what these are called
The foggy look of some of your images reminds me a few of my vintage lenses that I had sent out for CLA. It does give a mysterious character to the subject that we do not find in the modern APO lenses. Wonder if it is better on film than digital?
I'd love if you could review the old 135STF lens! :)
This lens has not left my camera since I got it. Love the rendering so much.

They look brilliant.

very similar to my ancient 50mm Collapsible Summicron f2.0! Bagel shapes in out of focus! A Plus! Mine has it!
Camara content? yes please, thank you
Hi Brandon. Thanks for the great review. Been playing around with my lens and I noticed something odd. Not sure if it's my copy or if it is normal as they say. Still waiting for my personal copy to be shipped so I'll post an update to see if I notice an issue!
I would love to see you do a video on magic lantern I always hoped one day you’d cover it ever since you worked on that old red weapon video
Nice video try the Pentacon 50mm 1.8 if you get the chance.

I would love to see someone review this on a 35mm. I am hardly ever able to use F2 since Leica only goes up to 1/1000

What are your thoughts on the Leica Q3?
Also look into LOMO OKS lenses 😎
As a person who is ignorant in photography, is that like a new Leica at the beginning does it have a metal recessed shutter button?
It's a Leica M10, it has an aftermarket screw in metal shutter button
Newly released Cooke lenses for mirrorless cameras must excite you :p

Something wrong with the audio... seems like one channel is some millisecond off from the other.

Can I put it in my Sony ?
Try the filter Smoke 1 or 2 from tiffen

which adapter did you use to shoot on Fujifilm
The one I use doesn't seem to be made anymore but this one looks like a decent alternative: bhpho.to/4avW4OB
@@brandonylee thank you!
The voice track got weird at around 0:46
You can’t use auto focus with this?
No, it's manual focus only
Oh yikes, something went wrong with the audio. The transition is stark at 0:44 - 0:50
audio is messed up on this one.
audio's fine, it's none worse than other small youtubers.
Just get a non asph 50 Summilux. had this. Sold it, didn’t need it.
