My mom was a student at UF at the time. She said that small, petite brunettes were warned to stay inside and lock the doors since women of that description were being targeted. My mom fit the bill. She lived in the apartment complex where one of the girls was killed. She was so terrified (especially because she lived alone) that she left for some time to hide out at her grandmother’s house. I had not really heard any of the details about his crimes until now. I could only imagine how scary it must have been for my mother and the other victims... these poor girls :(

I grew up an hour from where this happened as it was happening. It was a horrible time. I’m so glad your mother made the decision to stay somewhere else. Most of my family are UF alumni. We took youth trips there during the summer and after this the amount of security was increased to an enormous degree. (Thankfully). Of course we didn’t have trips as it was happening but before and after. It was too close to home and still stands out in my mind. Your mother was blessed to have a place of safety to go to. Thank goodness.

This is weird and I live in Gainesville. I was about to ask “how have I never heard of a serial killer (which inspired Scream) in such a relatively peaceful city,” but then when she said something about university students, my memory was jogged. I pass by that mural a lot. I just forgot about it because I haven’t heard about the incident in so long. And hardly anything happens in Gainesville. I literally clicked wondering if it was a different Gainesville, and jumped to the description, and saw “Florida.” This will be a strange listen, for sure. I’ll have to come back later.

She was sent to her grandparents' house out of town for a while, and wasn't allowed back in town without her parents or grandparents. If she wanted to go into gainesville to meet a friend, her mom or dad needed to be with them.

Could you please look into the case of ‘the grindr killer’ a man that murdered 4 young gay men in London. It’s a case where the police had the evidence to charge the man after the first murder, but didn’t, and that then lead to another 3 young men dying. The police really failed these men. The families pushed for this man to be investigated and found their own case. It’s a pretty recent case from 2015.

I'm from Gainesville, even though those murders happened decades ago we have a wall on 34th street that the University of Florida allows students to grafiti on for fun so they don't do it elsewhere on campus. When the murders were solved someone commemorated part of the wall to the victims of these murders. It's an unspoken thing that nobody touches or paints over that part of the wall and it's still there today.

I don’t get why scream movies are inspired of these murders.. there’s nothing linked with phonecalls before the murders. Scream murders targeted Sidney Prescott and here there’s no one targeted. The real killer never used a mask or anything. In scream the killers where 2 high school boys. I don’t see the inspiration in those real murders..

    • @Jdubski-dk7ml
      @Jdubski-dk7ml 5 лет назад +35

Ana Coudon I think it’s more the idea of students being stalked by a killer that inspired it, not all the actual details plus Danny rolling and the killer in scream both used ka-bar military knives so there’s that similarity

Wow, what an unexpected trip back in time. I moved to Gainesville in November of 1989 as a fit brunette who could easily be mistaken for a student and lived about a half mile from UF.
As soon as the police said they suspected a serial killer going after brunette college students, my partner and I went out to her undeveloped land and got REALLY good at shooting her .410 lever-action shotgun. We figured the sound of the lever was distinct enough that if this guy came into the house, he'd hear it with no trouble. And it being a shotgun, we could shoot around a corner as a "get the ef out of here if you want to live." And while it's meant for small game, it *can* kill a person, but will definitely tear them up enough that you can then move in for a shot to the heart.
That was a unique and terrible experience. His murder spree "only" lasted a few days but since he wasn't caught right away, and there had been an erroneous arrest, we were scared for at least a year. I was so glad to finally move away from there in 1991.

Leah-Adeena I live 5 minutes away from new ash green, we don’t know much yet. They believe her disappearance is to do with her life style (3 marriages, recently had moved in with her ex again in new ash green, active on dating sites etc), a man had been arrested but is now out on bail. Still no body. Helicopters are out everyday, I see them from my house, sniffed dogs, search parties. New ash green is a very small but very big community area, everyone knows everyone. And someone there knows something, someone MUST have heard something even if they don’t realise it is that what they heard. Scratchers lane opposite the brandshatch hotel & race tracks has been closed off. Terrible case, a mother has gone missing and there seems to be nothing. Would love for Eleanor to cover this case especially because it’s so close to home. It’s such a quiet area nothing like this goes on at all! I can name you four tragedy/incidents in the longfield/hartley/new ash green/fawkham area (all 5 minutes from eachother) in the 14 years I’ve lived here. It’s a tragedy, god rest her soul wherever she may be and I hope she hasn’t suffered. And love and light to her children, parents and other family.

My grandad was about 10 years old, and when the man who lived two streets away from him, moved into John Christie’s old flat, he pulled up the floor boards. He ran into the streets shouting ‘A BODY! THERE IS A DEAD BODY UNDER THE FLOOR BOARDS’. It’s a really interesting case up in north Kensington. My grandad lived two streets away, and the man who found the bodies was running through his street. I would love it if you come ethics case, it’s a really sad case. I think it was more of a power thing. He was completely powerless his entire childhood and the only way he could try to escape those feelings was to take control of another person. He probably just assumed that women are very vulnerable targets. There’s also a possibility that the satisfaction he gained from having power bled into his sexual fantasies as well so he would go after women who he was attracted to and then do everything he could to make them feel powerless and humiliate him the way that his father had done to him when he was young.

i can't even begin to imagine how frightening itd be to fight off someone trying to kill you. i feel so sad for all these victims. they were so young too. its just really fucking sad.

Your take on the jonbenet murder. Some say it was her brother in a recent video.

I absolutely think it was her brother. For a brief time I became obsessed with the case and after like 45+ hours of documentaries, television, videos and reading, too.
The most impactful for me was the Netflix original where they had people audition as the families; and the one available on RUclips where they get go over the DNA on the underwear and a kids’ ability to crack open a skull. All of this information has me absolutely convinced it was him.

Literally the only channel right now who covers unique cases and not ones we have heard a million times. So so good! Thanks lovely ❤️

The first time I heard about this case, I was a little girl watching it on a true crime channel. And just like then, I feel scared hearing about how he killed this victims. So, so awful

I am really fond of Eleanor's video for so long now. There's something about her voice and the way she tells the stories that never make me feel bored or even closed to uninterested! I love your contents, dude!

There is a movie called 'Chaos' (not the Jason Statham movie) that had similar killing and tortures. It is basically a WAY more sadistic version of 'Last House on the Left'.

I've lived near Gainesville my entire life and I am currently working at the mall there. I have friends that go to UF and Santa Fe. I'm shocked that this is the first time I'm really hearing about this. I watch yours and others true crime cases all the time, but its so weird hearing about one that has happened so close to home. Great video! Can't wait to see what's to come :)
