    I remember way back when I was in high school maybe early college years my dad bought a Massey Ferguson340 sled just to feed the cows then I found some friends so I road with them but being a kid I wanted to keep up and that wasn't happening so I went and found a JD trailfire I thought I was in seventh heaven I could keep up with everyone and it had a neat feature a back rest. That was nice for everything especially when the girlfriend wanted to go along nice for everyone. Glad you are enjoying your sleds have fun.

Took me a few years but i have a set of what i call the fire series. Spitfire, trailfire, snowfire, sportfire, sprintfire, and liquifire. Get yourself a sled dolly - the one that lifts indee the belly pan sides and then hooks on the back bumper. Best investment I ever made. Lifts the sled up and carries over rough terrain, saves your back, saves the carbines, saves the concrete you have, saves the studs if you have them. My neighbour borrows it all the time when he's moving his sled in and out of storage. I got mine used.

    Those JD sleds look like they are in great condition! I still have my '71 Arctic Cat that I bought in '82 for $200. We have 6 sleds in our arsenal and every damn one needs something. Pulled drive sprockets off of my sons '74 JD 400 last night. Track was wedged to one side last winter and we thought 🤔 it just shifted off of the rear 😳 idlers because, of, you know, kids doing kid things. Brought it in and chained it up and forgot about it. And then I seen the remains of a nylon drive sprocket lying in the alley of the stables last July 😂! 🙄 wonder where that came from! Anyway, enjoy the snow and your sleds!😊

      @northdakotaham1752 Love these old Arctic Cats! I put a helluva lot of miles on my old 71 panther; still has the original Good Year track. Had a guy go thru the kawasaki motor a few years ago. Found an original electric starter for it on e-bay last year. That thing was always so damn hard to pull over! The '72 has a single popper 246 Hirth. It will sit and idle all day without flooding or dying! Slow but fun! These cleated tracks are really good in the powder as if you didn't know! Maybe not like 😕 🤔 the new mountain sleds of 2-day, but not nearly as expensive either! My other A- cat is an '88 cougar that I traded an chevy 350 engine for. Needs windshield, air ducts, and a seat recover. Thing runs soooo damn good! Top dog is '91 RXL 650. These triples sound like mean sombitches! Other Polaris is a '94 Indy 440 that my daughter drives. And then of course is the '74 JD. Bought a pair of sprockets from Dennis Kirk and if you put them back to back they will work. I'm going to order another pair so that we can do both sides. I read on a forum that these white sprockets on this year and others were not good at all. In between I've owned quite a few sleds over the years, and I regret selling some of them. I really would like to some day get an Arctic Cat zrt 600 if I can find one that's 🤔 ot beat to crap!😊

    • @northdakotaham1752
      @northdakotaham1752 Год назад

      @@repairmanjoe8081 Ive had several old sleds over the years that had large singles and yes, they will pull your arm out of the socket! A Polaris Colt I had back about forty years ago had a 300 Hirth. The pull cord was actually steel cable! Never broke that one! In the early days you could identify what sleds went by on the trail by the track they left. Cats all had 17 inch cleated tracks. Skidoos all ran 15 inch rubber tracks. Our neighbor and cousin, sold Viking snowmobiles which were made in Twin Valley, MN if I recall correctly. They originally had 15 inch rubber tracks but many were upgraded with plastic Fast Track sectional tracks, assembled in sections with 1/4 inch pins. I had several of those and they were always great. But they were all bogie wheels and slowed the sleds down alot. The Cats all ran sliders which was one of their main selling points. I still have a 70 or 71 Panther here in a shed but it has a Kawasaki 440 ...I think. Havnt looked at it for years. My 72 Puma has a 340 Kawasaki which isn't very fast but as you said, they float over powder. Love the smell of those 2 strokes running! My second favorite smell right behind Hoppes 9!

    These days all the hikes and stuff are fuel injected but with my carb dirt bikes and trikes etc I like to just lean the bike hard on its tide till the carb over flows. That puts fresh gas in the carb. The barns are vented and sitting all year the fuel gets bad. As long as the carb is good and clean the fresh gas helps them fire right off! Not wanting to throw a snow mobile on its side I’d say just draining the carb from the screw at the bottom of the bowl few about a minute will do allow fresh gas to flow in and do the same thing. You obviously know what you’re doing but thought I’d toss my way of doing it in there! Kewl sleds. I’ve never ridden a snowmobile. Too far south for that fun!

    Many year's ago, the dealership's had a cart made out of pipe with a wheelbarrow tire on each side that sould lift a sled up a wee bit so they could move the sleds around without straining or busting a gut. Back 45 - 50 years ago everyone around here had a sled, or several. There might have been 50 different manufacturers of sleds. Have had a bunch of them....Bolens, Vikings, Cats, MotoSki, Kawasaki, SkiDoo, SnoJet and Polaris. Fingers were frozen half the winter!
