Engines 576 and 577 operated here every day in the 1980's and 90's. That's when we had twenty to twenty five care trains and ran all the way to Venice. Those days are gone. I have lived in Sarasota since 1965. The Seaboard yard downtown just north of their depot on Lemon and Main streets, the Atlantic Coast Line yard between 8th and 12th streets, Seaboard Coast Line U-18-B's...... memories.....thanks for a great video. Nice to see that siding on Myrtle active again.
Company car is awesome!
Its a wonder this railroad is still in business,all the track has been removed south of Fruitville Road
They have since rebuilt that road crossing on Myrtle and the lead going into there.
Update: Found out that Seminole Gulf railway purchased that spur/land where that old concrete plant sat. I have driven by Myrtle and seen their engines sitting when not in use. Lately, Seminole gulf has been more active on our Sarasota line. I want to say that I hear both 596 & 580’s horn blast in the mornings simultaneously, everyday on the 10th street tracks that are by my house. I have even noticed tank cars and several hoppers tied down on the WYE nearby as well…very interesting!
Also now that is where they park the engines when not in use
I’ve heard that horn a while back and I was like that’s definitely not 596, must be a mystery train. Until 2 weeks ago or so I caught 579 on 17th Street. I was surprised because I thought these were long gone! Great to see it in action again!

Oh so thats what where you. We’re railfanning on Monday I didn’t catch the outbound Tropicana train on Monday they just pulled the consist farther back up into the yard and we just decided to go get lunch

Yes, SGLR does local operations on Mondays and Wednesday’s, but they are night jobs now.
