- In this vlog we take you along with us for two quali sessions, a wet first race and an eventful second race at the famous Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta Circuit. We bring you the reactions to the inevitable highs and lows of racing and also get to sample some American style "High Octane & Caffeine" Bracket Racing too!

Friday is "quali" day so we head to the track with our friends so Luke can get ready for the first session.
Despite having good pace, Luke gets caught up in traffic and isn't able to get in a clean lap, qualifying in P31. He is disappointed but, seeing how the other drivers work in quali, he is confident that if he implements a different strategy he can do better in the second session.
After breakfast in the Paddock Grill, we scope out different parts of the track for potential viewing areas and find a good spot to watch some of the other racing before Luke's second qualifying session. Having learned from the first session, he does really well and qualifies in P10. The drivers will use their best time over the two session so we estimate he will be starting the first race in P13.
We go for dinner at Cash Rica, a Mexican restaurant nearby before calling it a night.
Luke's race is early on Saturday morning in wet weather. Usually, Luke does well racing in the wet but not having had an opportunity to test the US regulation wet tyres or understand how the track changes in wet conditions it takes him by surprise and he loses positions in the first couple of laps. However, once he gets used to it he does well and finishes 17th out of the 50 car grid.
After dinner with friends at the Braselton Longhorn Steakhouse, we check out the local "High Octane and Caffeine" Bracket racing nearby.
Luke's second race is scheduled for around sunrise on Sunday so we are up and out early again.
There's great support from our friends back in the UK posting comments on the SCCA You Tube live stream which gets mentioned by the court commentators.
Luke starts in P13 again but luck is not on his side as just before the rolling start he gets brake-checked by their car in front of him resulting in a nudge which cuts the engine out. By the time he re-starts the car he is at the back of the pack. After a full course yellow for a few laps the race gets going again and Luke puts in an epic drive to make up 20 positions and finish 27th.
Again, the result is disappointing and doesn't reflect his performance as his lap times were up there with the front runners.
After another breakast at the Paddock Grill and time to reflect, Luke is pragmatic about the events of the weekend and, whilst not the track results we would have hope for, it has still been an amazing experience and proven that he has the pace to be a contender in the U.S. Mazda/Miata championship.

Another wonderful video of Luke's racing adventures, and now on both sides of the pond. It's heartwarming that in this volume - Luke's Treads Across America - Dad, and best mate Keith in his best Yoda wisdom, reminds young Luke that the journey is the important lesson for now. Luke, of course, is full of excitement and determination to get to his destination that still awaits.
And what a thrilling chapter that will be.
So as the journey continues, I look forward to continuing riding along with this Cheers Ears - The Raceway Edition!

So I have a four year old son me being 35 and we're best friends, seeing the relationship you have Keith with your son as he's older is such a blessing to see and shows you can still be super close even when they grow up. Wow - well this was exciting! Never watched race car driving before but I was on the edge of my seat the whole time Luke was racing and enjoyed seeing the in-between bits with father/son especially. Great job guys, way to represent british racing! I'm only really familiar with F1, so I know they have 3 Quali sessions and in each one the bottom 5 drivers get dropped until the top 10 shootout..... how does the format differ in this type of racing when it comes to there being 2 qualifying sessions? What is the difference between the 2 sessions? Loving the videos, keep up the great work!
