Angela gettin clocked with that skate was one of the BEST things to happen this season
Agreed! I normally don't condone violence, but people of privilege need to know how much their words and actions can do to someone and the consequences of treating people like that. People can only take so much.. even after what Angela did,, El calmly approached her and tried to talk it out but Angela just had to turn the knife and bring up Hop. That crossed the line and El snapped! Maybe should've swung with her fist, but the skate WAS satisfying! The first Blockbuster Video opened in Dallas in 1985 so it was still in a really small scale until the late 80 and early 90's when it skyrocketed. This is late March 1986.

I'm sure someone has already cleared this up, but Joyce's $40,000 was Hopper's money (life insurance? cop pension?) that he had in a trust for El. They briefly mention it on the phone call with Enzo, but plenty of people miss that detail!
Also, 40k was closer to 100k in today's dollar.

I do think that season 4 is perfect tbh... They knew what the people wanted and they delivered. Murray as a main cast member is just the icing on the cake.
I grew up in the 80s, bullying was definitely common, a daily occurrence. Had plenty of it happen to me, and saw plenty of it happen to others. I guess things must be a lot better now, everyone reacting to this series seems to have a hard time believing this could have been real. Great reaction as always, Major!
I'm afraid it still goes one, everywhere. People are people and some are assholes. Awareness may be better and there are in some places lots of support, but not everywhere.

Keep in mind, El (Jane) did not have anything even remotely like a "normal" childhood. The inter-student power struggles she experienced as a child were warped by the fact that all those other children she was raised among each had their own power, and Papa manipulated all of them ruthlessly in his monomaniacal drive to develop the most powerful. Jane has no defenses except her powers, and when those are gone, she has no social skills or understanding of how to cope. The rage that she experienced demanded expression and grabbing that skate was her need to make Angela feel the same pain that she'd inflicted on Jane. And, fun fact: Brown and the actor who played Angela are bffs in real life. Must have been fun shooting those harrowing scenes!
So as someone born in '81 in Kansas City...we had a way of dealing with girls who behaved like Angela. Someone eventually beat those girls' down. It was usually done at parties where you couldn't really call the cops.
Bullying was DEFINITELY a thing in the 80s. We just didn’t have social media to put a spotlight on it. Loving these reactions!!
"Peaked" means pale. He committed a hit and run and was carrying the guilt. That's why it came out when he saw the cop and imagined him saying, "Is that why you went home instead of calling us?" was the clue. Enzo said that Hop had a trust for El, when he called which is there the $40K was coming from. All the episodes this season are long. The finale you're gonna have to do in three parts to get enough content for YT.
Love how Hop says he works with no one, and later on he indeed works with "no one".

I was bullied from 3rd grade - 7th grade (1989-1993)... during 7th grade.. the school bully threatened me in the cafeteria in front of EVERYONE.. I was/and still am 5'5".. bully(at the time) was at least 5'8" (Big 7th grader) Anyways.. He Threatened me.. said if I leave the Cafeteria.. he was going to beat my ass.. I stood up and said.. if your going to do it.. lets do it now! He came at me.. I dove at him.. tackling him to the ground.. and just started wailing on his face... and I fucked him up.. IN FRONT OF EVERYONE!! Ever since that day... NO ONE would mess with me.. even through High School! As a matter of fact.. from that day forward.. I protected other students from bullies!! That is how much respect I earned that day!! Fk Bullies!!

The same way they nodded to “Terminator” in the last season, the bullying scene in this episode is a nod to “Carrie”, when they dumped pigs’ blood on her at prom. Carrie had supernatural powers and took revenge, just as Elle does.

I struggle to watch that scene at the roller rink - it's very similar to many situations that I experienced during my own childhood. For example, one time, someone stuck their leg out and tripped me up in the middle of the lunch hall, and they made me fall over and spill my lunch all over the dirty floor, and then another person proceeded to squirt yogurt at me - nobody helped and they just giggled amongst themselves. Unfortunately, it's very real and it's uncommon for anybody to step in a help you. Teachers ignore and walk away and the other children either join in or stand and watch. I don't think bullying has gotten any better, if I'm being honest.
Before my 8th grade gym class there was a guy in my class who would grab my ankles, drag me to the middle of the basketball court, and swing me around in circles. No one said anything, and I was too scared to tell the teacher.
I was bullied from 2nd grade right through 1 ami2th. Kids, parents, teachers... I'm still damged from all the abuse. Unfortunately I'm still dealing with bullies in my 40s because I'm fat, and its always open season on us.
I’m 17, I’ve definitely experienced bullying. In secondary school it was more subtle, but that somehow made it worse. Like patronising type of shit, like people think you’re stupid. Looking back it’s definitely because I’m autistic, so my experience is definitely different from others.
I grew up the only "whitehead" in an Italian community in western PA. I was the only kid that wasn't related to someone else, and I had my own beat and my own drummer. Yeah, I had to deal with bullies. I had to fight a LOT!

I was bullied for about a year in elementary school. The school I went to had half-day kindergarten and in the afternoon I went to a babysitter's house. But there were two kids there, a brother and sister, who picked on me and got all the other kids to join in. They would pull my hair, take my toys, and the brother would sit on me, his favorite game was pretending that I was a beanbag chair. I was a skinny little kid and he was a year older and WAY bigger than I was. And every time I would try to retaliate, they would immediately go crying to the babysitter and I would get in trouble. I'm still trying to work through everything they did, almost 15 years later.
I'm so sorry that you went through this and I hope you are healing well, even though it's frustrating having to do that because of those people. I can relate and I am here if you ever need to talk. Sending hugs.
“Psycho Killer” by the Talking Heads was the perfect song for this and “Up In Smoke” is a Cheech and Chong classic. In fact all of the 80’s movies they listed are classics. 😁❤️
Dude, Cheech & Chong were/are a comedy duo from back in the 70s and 80s who made the most hilarious drug movies of all time. "Up In Smoke" and "Next Movie" are classics (I highly reccommend.)

I was a military kid so I was always moving to a new school. At almost every school I went to someone was being bullied, a lot of the time we as people don't even notice when someone is being bullied.
in the 90's I had a bully in the 8 grade Thomas Green he was a wannabee crip. When I got to that school his friends said he had to fight me for him to join, so every day it was him spreading rumors, pushing or throwing stuff when teachers won't do anything.
At least that's what he said when he woke up after he tried to jump me after school, and I choked him unconscious. His friends started to hit me to get me to let him go, I was trying to ki!! him I told them to back up when they did I let him hit on the ground.
The people I was walking home with and I start to walk away, as his so called friends try to wake him up to continue fighting. the school must have heard because they sent school security, we hide. Thomas got caught trying to run and snitched where he saw us hide.
A funny part is his younger sister had a crush on me, and he had to sit outside during a school dance while she wanted to slow dance with me.
I just wish I could tell him," you know what I am gay and you sister let me finger her at the dance."
If you google ( Challenger middle school teacher gets drugged ) that was my middle school in San Diego. The kid that got caught told on everyone he ever sold anything to.

People would bully very lowkey at my school. Kinda like how Angela was treating El in the beginning. They make it seem like its a positive thing. Like making their friends go ask out a quiet person just to get a reaction. A common thing thats been happening is they all crowd around this one autistic girl and “hype her up” to where she’s dancing all just to record her and stuff :/ like she’s having a good time and theyre making fun of her

I was in elementary school in the 80's, went to school in '83 to be more specific and we had big classes and definitely there was bullying. Teachers didn't condone it, of course, but it still happened during recess, after school and so on. You didn't have social media or internet or any of that shit and telling on people was something that was frowned upon, especially among boys. Which was really unfair to the victims obviously. I was both bullied and something of a bully in return to some other kids for a time. In general I'm not very fond of looking back at certain parts of my childhood.
Enough of that, to you wondering about the value of $40,000, apparently $40,000 in 1986 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $109,795.62 today (US) and this was the Soviet Union era so standard of living was actually very low for most people so this would have been A LOT of purchasing power over there. And still today, more like especially today, Russia is massively divided economically, the gaps between the rich and the poor are enormous. Then again, they ARE very big in the States too, aren't they? The Kamchatka Peninsula is in the far east of Russia, roughly between Japan and Alaska.
You're a bit stuck in the previous seasons' thing with all the host talk, but that's understandable considering how they basically stretched the same thing with variations over all of them. It's fun in a way though and as you saw it's a bit different this time. Cool to revisit the season with you, keep it up!

My high school was so small that we had all known each other since like kindergarten so we didn’t really have bullying. I think it depends on the school honestly
Love you major, and yes I was bullied all the way through high school. Primary school not so much but high school oh ye it was the worst time for me bullying wise. It was hell I hated school and didnt learn anything because of it. People threw hands at me but I never learnt to defend myself until after school

Unfortunately, my childhood where I lived we were bullied horribly, and I knew one kid who got so mad or well I didn't know him personally, but he used to be in my class and he one day cracked because the teachers couldn't get this kid and his friends to stop bullying him, so he took his dad's gun to school and shot the kid. He just snapped and all that pain and anger and hurt from being beating around caused this kid to snap. I feel bad on both sides I am not saying it's right to do this, but the facts are what they are, if people can't stop it things like getting attacked is just going to keep on happening.

This is what happens when you bully someone, and it goes on for too long and no one stops it. This is what happens with kids like El. This bullying thing gets out of hand, and this is what happens. Although she deserved it personally in my opinion. Poor Will he feel like a 3rd wheel and the fact he has feelings for Mike too, so this is painful truthfully. But damn it's good.
A lot of the bullying now in school is on social media which sucks because it used to be you didn’t have to deal with bullies when you left but now they can always hit your phone
I like how this show presents different personality's in similar 'roles' in life, like the contrast between Crissy and Angela being the "queen"s of their high schools or many other examples like Steve and the jock dude who's hunting Eddie down. Basically shows that there can be much more to people than just whatever clique or status group they're involved with.
I'm sorry Major but you need to put some respect on the names Cheech and Chong. Cheech Marin, Tommy Chong, Willie Nelson, and Snoop Dogg are the 4 most famous Tree smokers In The World. Plus, Cheech & Chong are one of the funniest comedy duos to ever do it.

I dealt with ALOT of bullying when I was in school in the 90's early 2000's. I went to a small private school, so maybe that's why. Besides it's different for girls, girls can be so mean.

I once went to a school for 4 years and kids would make a round to bully other kids, just like in this show, without the rollers... Teachers would do nothing about it. Then I move to a Catholic school and everything went well, not because there were Catholic, because that means nothing, but because there were good people, the nuns also... It's weird because I'm from Chile and this violent school was an USA School in my city, for American kids and everyone who could afford it. It's was awful 😞... But I knew one of my best friends till date so... You can find good people in every place, same with garbage people

You never saw the bullying because u played football and werent the one getting bullied. I wouldnt really call it bullying most of the time it was more just making fun of people. Probably rarely happened like this but people were definately made to feel like outcasts when i was in school. Not me though because im awesome 🥴😄😄
