I'm on the third year of my Fine Arts degree, and you're the teacher I've never had. Seriously, I learn more with your videos than I did in three years of fine arts university.
@@persiaart6907 Yeah, Marco's series on color on his YT channel taught me far more than 3 semesters (and thousands of dollars) of painting at university.
Bucci is one of the highest quality art teachers on the net. The way he masterfully compresses huge amount of complex knowledge to its most basic essence is breathtaking.
"I don't have to literally make the colors blue, as long as they're going that way on their journey through the color wheel, i can pick a wide variety of cooler colors here" something about color theory never really clicked until I heard it phrased like that- his whole egg study segment felt like actual understanding! where as so many color theory youtube videos simply exposit the same definitions about value and color and all that without actually giving practical advice about how to use it in practice- this was a very comprehensive start to understanding!
This video was SO incredibly informative-- I have it saved so I already plan on returning to it often. But I can't help but feel a bit overwhelmed by all the information )'': I know mastering this stuff takes time and practice, but I just completed a piece for my art account and now I'm looking at it like "oh god, I think the colors are way off considering my light source" LOL! But hey, I'll keep practicing! Thank you so much to Marco Bucci for this!
i think this is the first time ever i turned video speed not to 1,25 but to 0,75. it's so jampacked with information and spot on demonstration that i had to slow down to soak it in :)
It took me ages to learn this haha. I learned it via Sam Nielsons course and just tonnes of sphere tests. A nice analogy for anyone who might not get it is to think of the colours as magnets. The more saturated the light or object, the more it will 'pull' towards (creating the resulting colour). So a bright red won't be affect so much by a grey (warm) light source and it will retain its local colour. Then you just adjust the brightness based on the light source strength. Hope this helps :)
I just finished watching Marco's two videos on ambient occlusion. Then THIS video pops up when I take a break from working on a new art piece, one that's been a total struggle to paint in terms of color and light. Proko's video topics are really next level.
I love Marco's content. He is always sharing useful information that allows you to see things in a new way. I think watching his videos has made me break a few plateaus already, especially when it comes to coloring.
THANK YOU FOR THIS 😭😭😭 I always start off my works with grayscale then add some colors using gradient map tool and I often rely on blending modes CUZ I DON'T KNOW HOW TO PAINT PROPERLY WITH COLORS... NOW I KNOW WHERE TO START STUDYING COLORS AND THEIR RELATIONSHIPS 😭😭😭I'M REALLY REALLY THANKFUL ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I decided to go and watch the previous video since you were suggesting I did so, and when I came back to finish watching this video this is where it resumed 13:25
After watching the video i felt like I just watched it illegally, I already watched too many color theory video including the one in marco's channel, but i think I understand this more maybe because this is more simplified and focuses more on warm and cool. Thank you for this Proko and Marco! this really helps a lot.
Omw!! Color theory finally makes sense to me! This was the best video, and it ties everything up so well. I can't wait to try some of this out. Especially more natural lighting effects. I won't share too much more from here. This has been a year worth of self studying for me. I'll let others do there own research. Thank you soooo much!!! 🥰
The visuals were so helpful with the color wheel and the ball. Honestly I thought I would never understand how to shift skin tones to make sense in an environment’s lighting…
Even though this is probably one of the most useful lighting, color, and skin tone tutorial I've seen on youtube I can not stress enough how helpful it would be to see this concept explained using darker skin tones as well. Mostly because the ochre, blush, and cool tone rule that you mention regarding faces doesn't seem to appear as often or as dramatically on those tones? If anyone has good tutorials or resources to expand on this idea but for dark/black skin please comment below!!
Ben Lustenhauer (might have misspelled that) has a good video on how the 3 color zones do also apply to darker skin tones but how they generally have more saturated colors and the zones are closer in tone with more gradual transitions to shadow.
I kind of lean towards deep reddish purples and blues for darker skin shadows and more of a dull dark pink orange mixture for highlights (depends on lighting, sometimes a watered down blue)
I agree. African, Caribbean, Indian and Olive skin tone studies are way more needed on the web. The deeper the colours, the more subtle the blends are because the hues are at the darker end of the lighting so more skill is required IMO.
wow! I learned about this in my oil painting class but I never truely understood until I saw the way you explained it! I am going to apply this on my current project
I learnt a lot... Which is even more impressive as I don't know how to draw or the fact that I didn't even watch the video to learn how to colour people in a drawing. I watched this video to understand how light affects skin tone so I can better light humans for video 😁
