The allman brothers at Fillmore east...religious experience..it changed my love of music..forever. the greatest band in history
Duane would have been 73 yesterday. The world missed out on one of the greats. Happy birthday Skydog!
I was 15 when introduced to their music. I fell in love with them. As long as I'm alive i will listen and enjoy their music. 🌹🙏🌹💗💗💗💗💗
Best band of all time...
The Righteous Brothers said it best: "If there's a Rock and Roll Heaven, you know they got a Hell of a band".
I like to think that in another world, The Allman Brothers Band are still alive and well and playing their hearts out, creating amazing, indescribable music.
Now Gregg is home with Duane. What a sad loss of an awesome talent. There will never be another one like Gregg. A warrior til the end. But he will live on in our hearts and his music will live forever. Love you Gregg.
The Allman Brothers were the best Southern Rock band of all time.
The Allman Brothers Band was and always will be the best live band ever to grace a stage anywhere anytime.....
Citadel , AMEN
They hated to be clasified as Southern rock.
Gabriel facts
@@brandonshafer1220 Greg Allman said as much in one of his interviews.
gregg allman is one of the best singers ever yeah!
He really was wasn't he? Him and Freddie King possessed my two favorite voices (for guy singers). As good as they sounded on record they sounded even better live.
Yes Ma'am !!
Best white blues singer ever
the allman bros are still played on the radio in macon and most ga. multiple times a day... that speaks volumes about there music...
.."their" music..
The Best music can ever get - that in my book. Yes my book goes very long. But yes indeed the A.B.B. start the book and ends the book with so many groups in the middle the line goes on and on but like I said the road does go on and on God bless🙏👍
I do not know what it would be like to live my ups and downs of life under public scrutiny. What i saw was Greg Allman and band members in their pursuit and love to play not quitting. Much in honor of keep playing. And love for music. I have no good answer as to why some are taken before we all feel they should. How we left on earth find ways to work through our grief. Allman brothers band will no doubt be forever played. And missed. The documentary is about how the band members dealt with the losses. Only we can speculate affected their lives the band and ever changing world we live in.
Thank you much
I saw The Allman brothers band play in Berkeley just months before Barry Oakley died....for me it was a Phenomenal show yet very bittersweet with out Duane Allman....Dickey Betts did a helluva job, but not long after we saw them in Berkeley then Barry Oakley died....just freakin heartbreaking.
Never in my life will I ever see or have the pleasure of hearing a greater band. ABB ruled yesterday today & for all time !!
Allman Brothers now playing in Heaven:
Duane Allman on Guitar,
Dan Toler on Guitar
Gregg Allman on Hammond B3 Organ, acoustic guitar, some electric guitar,
Frankie Toler and Butch Trucks on Drums,
Lamar Williams, Berry Oakley and Allen Woody all playing bass sounding like thunder.
Phil Walden managing the band again.
Bill Graham opens up a new club called the Filmore South.
Special Guests include Toy Caldwell, Allen Collins, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Hughie Tommasson and so many more.
I like the way you think pal. Throw Lonnie Mack in the mix and my oh my.
Dan had big shoes to fill and he did a commendable job. Lamar was a beast also.
Have to say...1985 in north Charleston sc. Small club and maybe 20 people there. I told my buddies at work but none went...at a break only Gregg on stage, which was at least 8 inches high, looked at me and asked 'WHAT WOULD U LIKE TO HEAR'.I said Melissa and he picked up a 12 string and sang that song,a great moment in my life while everyone else was at the bar. They missed a once in a lifetime opportunity to hear a humble and really the greatest ...ever.
For Gregg's kids, your dad was a humble man who played Melissa for me when no one else even played attention to the greatest singer and performer ever, even if only one person was there,me. Thanks and still love you Gregg...
I never had a chance to really meet him but my slightly inebriated dancing made him laugh at a show in Toronto 20+ years ago. It's not much but I feel good knowing I put a smile on his face knowing how many times The Brothers did the same for me. Cheers!
Wow Roger, that's a great story!
Helping my father's brother in Hospice was monumental to me .
Hey all ABB fans,... if you have not already read Greg Allman's book ' My Cross To Bear ' I suggest strongly that you do. The entire story from day one of the band is revealed with no holds barred. After reading this book I soon realized that the ABB deserved everything they achieved by earning it through the survival of very intense trials and tribulations. A true story of perseverance and intestinal fortitude.
Gregg Allman was a legend in his own time.
The best thing he ever did, teach Duane to play guitar.
Yes he certainly was.
r.i.p. gregg what a loss of a talented inspirational singer loved greggs music and the allman bros. we lost another one but atleast we dont have to worry about them the music lives on!!
A truly remarkable band - I am always inspired when I hear their distinctive sound
At 00:50 the guy talks about the band's music being indescribable then mentions two jazz influenced songs; "Jessica" and "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed", both written by Dickey Betts. Nice to see his song-writing get specific mention. Jessica won the band a Grammy for best rock instrumental performance and In Memory of Elizabeth Reed was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.
Dickey wrote many songs, and his "Ramblin' Man" was their highest charting song.
A week after funeral, agreed to keep band together, Duane smiled down...
So glad i got to see them Live 7 times + Gregg Allman Solo twice.
I recently saw the full version of this documentary. If you can find it, it's well worth the time tracing the band's evolution up to Greg's death. R.I.P. boys, and many thanks to Govt. Mule for keeping this music alive.
I wish I could watch the whole documentary.
they helped make america great!
We still love u Sky Dog Duane.
great documentary. love me some all man brothers playin'....
Rest up and rock hard up there boys!! RIP ABB
...elements of everything! I could not say it better. They had it all.
there's southern rock and then there is the Allman Brothers
The true creators of the genre Southern Rock,... all others such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot the Outlaws, etc. followed their lead.
ABB,... absolutely brilliant!
RIP Duane & Gregg Allman, Butch Trucks and Berry Oakley
I REMEMBER THE DAY........WORD GOT AROUND SO FAST.....LIKE LOSING A FAMILY...RIP
Magical mesmerizing and deadly beautiful...got into your soul. FOREVER.
One of the first albums I ever bought was a Kmart blue light special, the all man joys. I have no clue what happened to it. But I still have beginnings. I literally wore out Elizabeth reed when I first got that album. I remember hearing Phil Walter's brother(can't remember his name) talking about why he couldn't get Lynyrd Skynyrd signed to Capricorn because they sounded like the Allmans, which he totally disagreed with. He was absolutely right. You say 'southern rock' and Skynyrd comes to mind (although I was listening to Black Oak wayyyy before anybody heard Skynyrd on the radio)
not to mention half a dozen other bands that followed like Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, the Outlaws, etc. But I wouldn't put that label on the Allmans. Their music was so unique they deserve a one of a kind 'label'. NOBODY sounds like the Allmans.
they were certainly a force to be reckoned with. others may have followed and been good by their own rights/talents but none could match ABB's amazing presence. wherever they are, you know there's one hell of a jam going on now that Duanne and Gregg are reunited! RIP guys. we love and miss you both.
jaemoe and dickey sole survivors who knew all the rest live on in albums videos and those who saw them live and of course our hearts
R.I.P. Greg Allman(5/27/17) Gregg Allman, the soulful singer-songwriter and rock n' blues pioneer who founded The Allman Brothers Band with his late brother, Duane, and composed such classics as "Midnight Rider," "Melissa" and the epic concert jam "Whipping Post," has died at age 69, Billboard has learned. He was diagnosed with hepatitis C in 1999 and underwent a liver transplant in 2010.
He "passed away peacefully at his home in Savannah, Georgia," according to a statement on Gregg Allman's official website, noting that the family planned to release a statement soon. "Gregg struggled with many health issues over the past several years. During that time, Gregg considered being on the road playing music with his brothers and solo band for his beloved fans, essential medicine for his soul. Playing music lifted him up and kept him going during the toughest of times."
Gregg’s longtime manager and close friend Michael Lehman said, “I have lost a dear friend and the world has lost a brilliant pioneer in music. He was a kind and gentle soul with the best laugh I ever heard. His love for his family and bandmates was passionate as was the love he had for his extraordinary fans. Gregg was an incredible partner and an even better friend. We will all miss him.”
With his long blond hair, cool facade and songs that chronicled restless, wounded lives, Allman came to personify the sexy, hard-living rock outlaw in a life marked by musical triumph and calamitous loss.
Billboard will have more information about the specifics behind Allman's death as the story develops.
Allman fronted his band for 45 years, first alongside Duane and then as its sole namesake, after his older brother -- regarded as one of the most influential guitarists in rock history -- was killed in a motorcycle accident in November 1971, just as their trailblazing Southern rock tracks were taking hold on the charts.
Soldiering on through grief and then the eerily similar death of bassist Berry Oakley just one year and 10 days after Duane died, Allman and the band became as well known for their stoic survival as they were for their freewheeling concerts.
The Allman Brothers Band first reached the Billboard 200 albums chart with its self-titled debut in 1970. Over the next 34 years, the group charted 24 more albums, including four top 10 sets. It topped the list once, with Brothers and Sisters, which reached No. 1 for five weeks in 1973.
The group also landed 10 Billboard Hot 100 hits between 1971-1981. It earned its best showing with “Ramblin Man,” which reached No. 2 in October 1973, and reached the top 40 two more times with “Crazy Love” (No. 29, 1979) and “Straight From the Heart” (No. 39, 1981). The band also logged a No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock Songs chart in 1990 with “Good Clean Fun.” In total, since Nielsen Music began tracking point-of-sale music purchases in 1991, Allman Brothers Band have sold 9.3 million albums in the U.S.
As a soloist, Allman notched seven charting albums on the Billboard 200, including one top 10 set: the No. 5-peaking Low Country Blues in 2001. On the Hot 100, he claimed a pair of entries with “Midnight Rider” (No. 19 in 1974) and “I’m No Angel” (No. 49 in 1987). The latter also topped the Mainstream Rock Songs chart that same year.
After years of tragedy, dramatic breakups and tense reconciliations, a reconstituted Allman Brothers Band engineered a renaissance starting in the mid-'90s that put their fiery brew of old-time blues, jazz and country rock squarely at the forefront of music's thriving jam scene.
denise dillon, well said.
Denise Dillon If I remember correctly, Butch Trucks was recognized as bringing this timeless group of musicians together.
magical...
Kim Payne. The Roadie. A book you want if you like Allman Brothers history. Met him last week. An honor.
I hear little martha in the background. That little tune brings me a tear every time I hear it
R.I.P. Greg
No testimonial from Dickey Betts? Not even a mention of his name? The man is a living legend! He took the mantle. Give him his due!!!
Jesse Coble this is only a small segment of the full length documentary. There were two docs actually...one was about the "Duane era", the second about "After the Crash". I saw them on July a while back, idk where you might see them now
Jesse Coble Right on. Dickey Betts was a badass guitarist, a legendary figure not revered as he should be . more power to him
I just got done watching the whole 2 hour long doc "After the crash"
They talk about Dickey more than they talk about Duane. The documentary is about the band after Duane's death and it goes through the Berry, Lamar, and the break up and reformation and the Dan Toler years. They talk about Warren and they go all the way up to the Derek trucks years and the bands graceful departure a few years back.
Dicky Betts went through quite a mean drunk spell and I think he went quite some time not playing with them. Just being a Dick head I guess. (pun intended)
I'm sure hes in this a lot. Weird that he isn't in this clip.
"Rock and roll's greatest survivors." Yeah. Lynyrd Skynyrd would like a word with you about that
What a great documentary! Thank you much!
Really appreciate your channel.
RIP Gregg Allman
I'm surprised that this video hasn't gotten more views since Gregg died but this show was on AXS channel on the cable. Maybe it will get more views later
Where's the rest of the doco? Berry was an amazing bassist! I know very little about him, but i know he is buried next to Duane. They was clearly tight!
6:19 no truer statement could be said ...he was outstanding, the brothers where outstanding, what a gene pool to emerge from?
Would like to hear more of that
Duane you should be here.
Me too...me too...
Riky Lee Everyday we get on our bike we take that Chance. He would have wanted that way
Gone far too soon
I named one of my pigeons Sky Dog. Every time I come home, he comes down off the roof and flies out to meet me and land on my shoulder. He's friendly, loyal, and as intelligent as any 3 of the imbeciles that pass for humans these days. Lots of great qualities, just like brother Duane.

Remember Duane ALLMAN ❤️🎶
Had Gregg been killed the band would have been finished. A shy unassuming southern gentleman with a gift that without doubt was on the same level as Lennon , and Brian Wilson RIP Gregg Allman
Come on, Allman was head and shoulders above Lennon or Wilson.
it was Duanes band..Greg did a great job..plz
Gregg Was Head & Shoulders ABOVE, Brian Wilson & John Lennon,,,WAY ABOVE,,
@@frankrusk6172 and Dickey wrote some incredibly good songs. They were a multiheaded monster.
"The Truth."
What a loss.
Dicky Betts ... nuff said
How can I find out what songs are playing in the background one scene has the intro of some slide guitar but cuts off pretty quick if find the time in the documentary can someone tell me the tune
What is the intro song! I am guessing the Allman Brothers? A little help here!
Where's the rest of the video? The video is good, but it leaves the major question of how the band continued wide open. Yes, Gregg couldn;t lead the band. Berry tried, but couldn;t either. Those questions resolved themselves. However, the question of how the band continued and who lead them, is totally unresolved. The video dies just as Duane regretfully did. The fact is, Dickey Betts took the helm and steered the band forward and ultimately to their number one song, "Ramblin' Man" and the Album Brothers and Sisters. That was the first album "After the Crash(s)" and it's not addressed at all. It's as though the video, as good as it is, suddenly drives off a cliff and there are no answers or stories there to resolve the initial title. It's as though there are chapters 1, 2, and 3, but the 4th with the answer is entirely left out, much less the epilog..
Key West Chris Rehm Good stuff to hear and right on the money.t.m.
Key West Chris Rehm . It looked like Dickey filled the leaders boots after Duane had been gone after a while. You can see it on stage at the shows with Dicky. t.m.
Y
why is the dreams audio here not the allman brothers.... did you not want to pay for the rights?
I heard there was 2 documentaries Before The Crash & After the Crash. Have either of them been released on DVD yet??
The band
If there’s one thing i needed today it’s a brutish guy telling me about the allman brothers ...
Hi. can anyone tell me the name of the song that plays in the background of the first five minutes of this? Much appreciated.
it's "Dreams", but not the studio recording....from some other live performance
Actually, the music playing in the background isn't the Allman Brothers...it's a "Dreams-inspired" song they used for tge soundtrack...they probably couldn't obtain the licensing to use actual ABB music for the documentary...you see alot of music docs doing the same thing. In fact, there was a Stevie Ray Vaughn documentary that player some of the same music that was in the ABB doc
@Big Papa Stovepipe again, that's not actually the ABB song "Little Martha", it's a "Little Martha-style" number, most likely written for this documentary
Does anyone know what song is being played the first five minutes of this video?
where is the other half of this I want to see more😒😒😒
Anyone know what the song is at the beginning of this?
Tattoos and scares......
U ever see buy one get one free Jack Daniels? Me neither. 💓The Allman brothers! ❄️🌎❄️👁️💓🎵👊😶✌️🎶
Saw them shortly after duane passed,
so wheres the rest why is there sp many unfinihed docs on utube i want to watch this
Rick Hadden
Rick, not sure this will help, if you have Amazon Prime Video, the complete doc is there...it is very good (as opposed to some Floyd docs..) & taught me tons about my favorite band (again besides the floyd..) I never knew most of this and I have watched it a few times. if you don't have prime, it is available on dvd thru amazon. rock on brother
thx rock on man
Why didn't you identify the interviewees ?
In my previous post it says "Phil Walters". Obviously I meant "Phil Walden". Thanks for nothing spellcheck.
Anyone know the story of Popa ALLMAN ..LOOK INTO HIS DEATH IN NORFOLK,VA.😣😒
I live in NORFOLK and going to do more research on location of his death .
Ed Simpson the song iz dreamz
Was Dwayne a chopper dad?
southern roick roick southern
3:18 Is that image from an album?
Jim Kirby yep he was in the allman brothers at one point he's good but also check out another member of the allman brothers Derek Trucks and their band "Tedeschi Trucks band" if you liked Duanes guitar playing you'll definitely like Derek Trucks. He was his biggest inspiration
To much talking, more music would be appreciated.
Evert Radema it's a documentary...if you don't like it just look up the songs...duh!
This whole 'best white blues singer' label is bullshit. Gregg didn't see color and he didn't care for the label either. He was a blues singer. Not white. Not anything else. Just a blues singer.
