When your entree arrives it will be arriving from your left and taken from your right. Here we know we are having an entree because we have the cutlery that we know is appropriate for an entree. That is a large dinner fork and a regular size knife. Again, we are going to eat like this, with our forefinger on the back of the fork. It is one cut, move forward, bring the bite to your mouth. You do not eat all of your meat first and then move onto the carrots or the potatoes, but you would take a bite of each. If something is on your plate that you do not care for, you just work around it and do not make a big to-do about it. You would actually move forward and do the cutting and bring the item to your mouth and of course, chewing with your mouth closed. Now, you will notice on this plate that there are peas, which of course, is difficult to eat along with rice. So here, what you would do is put some meat on your fork, and then you would actually add the peas to it and then bring it to your mouth, making it very easy to eat. If you are taking a rest, the cutlery is facing up, including the fork, setting it on the outside of your plate. Never like oars on a boat, coming off the plate, but like this.
Then prior to having a sip of your beverage, you would use your napkin or speak to your other guests. Then pick up your cutlery, again, upside down, cut, move forward and eat. When you have finished your entree, then the cutlery would be placed together like this, indicating to the wait staff that you are finished. If you are a slow eater, you want to speed up a little bit and if you are a fast eater, you need to slow down so that all of the guests are finished approximately at the same time. Another key point is the hands must always be seen. So an easy rule is, always, sometimes and never. No elbows on the table. The old rule was the hands were only seen when you are actually eating and the rest of the time, they are on your lap. That is obsolete and inappropriate in today's global society. So it is always, sometimes and never. - Хобби
I doubt I will ever be in a formal dining situation, but I still enjoy watching these videos. Something about her voice and manner that is very soothing and relaxing....
stringendo1 even if I am in a formal dining situation I'll still eat how I want and I don't give a fuck who watches
Raluca Gliga
You too?😝😝
SSJR Dude but why not use your manners and show others at the table respect? Just curious

Does this lady have anymore videos? She is the most gracious about I've seen on here
Yes, I have 700 videos on my RUclips Channel - Expert Gloria Starr. I appreciate your positive feedback. Lady Gloria Starr
She in an unconscious way...raised my etiquette while eating dinner. 😘

I absolutely adore this woman, she's so gracious and elegant!
Like a Queen she is
@@milansansiro4261 To a Brit she is totally pretentious.
So many ignorant people I'm not a expert but this is so beautiful have the manners to eat properly that's why we are different from the animals excellent video mam keep it up and greetings!!!
There are manners that make sense like:
don't make noise when you eat.
Chew w/your mouth shut.
Excuse yourself if you have to leave the table.
Don't talk w/your mouth full.
But things like how you place your silverware, eating your meat proportionately to your sides, fork faces up and not down and down not up are just plain hogwash. Is there really a necessity to behave in such a way and look down upon behaving otherwise? Why do some kind of engineering feat w/your meat and potatoes if you want to eat your peas w/a fork instead of just using a spoon which is much easier?
People like this woman are what's wrong w/today's prejudice society. And before you write me off as being some uneducated member of the lower class, my father has a master's degree AND worked for the united nations. My mother also has a bachelor's degree and came from a wealthy family of entrepreneurs.
pacohouston2 actually I apologize I probably took that too far.....but what's good with you and animals?
@@AwestaKhalid Eat how you like but just not around me. Eating peas with a spoon ffs! 😂😂😂
Gross. And are you saying that your parents eat like pigs?
@@AwestaKhalid how can I give you more than one like
Some do not understand table manners and use of cutlery has evolved to make life easier not harder. Some people overdo it, true. But for most part it makes things more convenient for yourself and others around you. This video is in the balanced territory.
Thanks for the useful tips! It certainly helps when we are meeting someone for the first time for lunch or dinner.
Thank you so much. I loved your video. It helps me a lot. European dining makes a lot of sense and looks so elegant.
Thanks so much for watching!
This woman would have a fit if she saw the way my dad eats 😩😂
Thank you for this great video,
Beautiful china.
It is interesting to see the difference between American and European dining etiquette.
For example:
Coffee Service on the table during dinner is not a thing here.
Desert cutlery is also something we don't put on the table until desert is served.
An entree is called maincourse .
And bread and butter is cleared from the table when the entree is served.
Plates with food are served from the right and soup served from a terine is served from the left.
When finished, cutlery is placed at three o clock.
A charger is never on the table during the maincourse/entree.
u look very elegant .thanks for sharing
This is Beautiful I don’t normally eat wit proper etiquette I luv the way she explains it it’s very helpful if you’re out eating with or around upper class rich folks
That is classic ! Cool !

Mr Ahmed I guess you have
Not seen me eat it’s not a great sight to look at!
In England, at least back in the 60's, this was taught at junior school (7-11).
Its so important. As I rose through my profession, despite my working class origins, I often attended dinners, met important people (including the Queen Mothers Ladies in Waiting who cooked me a meal in Prince Charles's Hunting Lodge at Sandringham), job interviews etc. Knowing my table manners made all these dinners a pleasure rather than a stressful or embarrassing occasion....and yes, I got the jobs 😁
very helpful information. now i dont have to feel worried when eating with my acquintances..
As long as I wash hands and say grace before & after, Im good. But beautiful, comfortable manners are lovely to watch.
Love it thank you. TEACHING MY CHILDREN
Thanks for your video. I don't judge anybody about the way they're eating unless they are being completely obnoxious like speaking with food in their mouth, or chewing with their mouth open, or making noises, because these things really are irritating, however I really appreciate table etiquette in formal settings, not because I'm a snob but because in life you have different occasions and for each one you have an appropriate way to be, just like we're not expected to walk around naked in public. It's nice to vary things when you can and I totally understand that this video isn't for when you're eating home alone, it's for formal settings when showing respect to others is necessary, for example nobody would expect to enter a formal wedding wearing a t-shirt, jeans and flip flops, right? Likewise, when you're at a formal dinner it's nice to adhere to the rules like wearing a suit, eating in a certain way, having a better posture... It's a shame that so many people attack the person in this video for no reason other than they're horrible human beings. Please ignore the criticisms and bring out more videos :)
Good informative video, thank you kindly.
I would like to thank you for this video. I have two questions if you do not mind. 1) I go out to eat a lot and the eating silverware is often wrapped in a paper or cloth napkin. What is proper in this scenario? 2) Is scraping your plate while you are eating correct etiquette, formal or not?
Thank you very much for sharing. I love your video, and you are very elegant!!

This is very helpful! Thanks :-)
Being cultured means knowing how to adapt to any situation with ease, whether it’s a formal dinner in the West, or in India where you would need to eat with your hands, or having to use chopsticks. There’s no one right way, or one set of etiquette on how to do things, so have an open mind guys
I like you
I love these! Easy, quick and important to learn.
Why is this so soothing to watch?
idk tho :")
Thank you.
thx for ur tips
How do you properly eat while steamed asparagus? Do you cut it into pieces or do you pick up a whole one with your fork and eat it bite by bite till you've eaten the entire stalk?
Merci pour ces précieux conseils
You look great. Very good tip
I wish more people ate like this, now days it's the ones with proper etiquette who are made to feel uncomfortable.
i wish people actually had food to eat.

Hi! Question: What if I take a rest, and then when I resume, I'd like a bite of mashed potatoes, without making a cut of meat. Is it acceptable to eat the mashed potatoes with the fork tines up? What about with my dominant hand?
Your video is so interesting , GOD bless you!!!!
Thank you so much for the kind words!
which country's etiquette states you alway keep one hand beneath the table, when not using it?
really good ty
Good evening, Gloria. I love your content. I need more of it, so I can blend in with corporate America. I do not fit in, nor blend in.
Thank u so much I really like it
Meat you cook for a formal party
so eat with ur left hand?
Entree means main course? Do entree fork and main fork mean same thing? I would appreciate if you could answer me the questions Thank you!!! I need your answer for my project
To be correct, and Entree is a French word, you have a number of courses.
Aperitif....small nibbles or "amuse bouche" eaten whilst choosing your meal, having an aperitif.
Entree....is your starter ! Clues in the name so I don't know how Americans decided it was the main course
Plat principal.....main dish
Then these can be followed by salad, cheese and desert.
So refined and elegant
Thanks for this :)
Jan Yumul
You are welcome 🙏
Miss yumul
Interesting. I was taught to never rest the hands, wrists, or elbows on the table. If they aren't free-floating above the table with the utensil, keep them in your lap!
HELP! im going to a formal dinner and ball in three days and need to know as much as possible about the european and american dining styles and whicch forks/spoons/knives are used for what. some one please help me!

Always always, hardly ever sometimes, and never never.
um i am only wanting to do this because just in case i get invited to a royal dinner i don't want to embarrass myself and when it comes to table manners i am a very slow learner but i am willing to learn but can you please do it for like a beginner like me and i also want to do this so whenever i make a movie relating to my own character moviegirl a superhero princess i need to know everything
thanks anyway
This is where I go after watching messy mukbangs and asmr
would you like tea and crumpets my dear ?

Why yes I would thank you 🙏
Tips to Americans: an "entrée" is AN APPETISER. A main dish is a "plat principal". Entrée literally means entrance/entry (into the meal)
what if the meat is too chewy and stuck on the teeth.i mean is not the diner fault.should i foot for the bills.
would be interested to know how to eat crabs
Can you make one on cheese?
In my country everyone eat like that...
Does anyone know why they changed the rule of always showing hands?
lmk if you find out i'm so lost
That's to fancy to me I could never eat like that
thank god the appropriate cutlery was there. she might not have known she was eating dinner otherwise.

Sunny Dutta roy u need help ,
all4one together4all what kind of?
all4one together4all i think he means stunned
These comments are ridiculous. It's an etiquette guide for people who want to learn, or are going to an event where this is needed. This isn't somethingbyou have to use in your house, and no one is making you constantly eat properly. This is for high dining situations, where etiquette is critical.
Just fucken dig in mate its just food
I simply use my fingers to eat....tastes better. Yes, etiquette is out of the window when I'm famished.
I am trying to eat a pizza like this! 😂😂😂

As do i with a knife and a

Mam, you see, here is the problem with me. When that juicy burger lands on my table, I can't help but eat like a bear.... call me simple minded, mam, but when a man is hungry, he just has to fill his belly as fast as possible.
Meat is not healthy. Sorry, but that is right and your etiquette is excellent!
Max Tube Yt hah!
Max World I need to eat meat. too many vegetables and I don't feel right
Gloria Starr
How do you eat ice cream, using a spoon 🥄 🍦?! Lol 😂
What if you don't care for the meat but want to eat the peas?
Whats wrong with oars?
I think this style of eating is too intense. Chewing mouth closed and keeping the table neat is enough for me. But thanks for the video.
The problem with placing your cutlery hanging off the sides of your plate, like oars off of a boat, is that it makes it highly likely that they will fall off making a mess of the tablecloth, your lap, or the floor. It also gives less room for other items on the table like your wineglass etc which again increases the likelihood of something being dropped or spilled.
The best way to eat is with ur right hand..no cutlery needed
So you would eat soup with your right hand, would you? How about pasta?
My dad is Spanish (meaning from Spain) and he taught me to cross my knife through my fork in order to tell the waiter/ess I was finished. Depending what time of day it was it determined how I crossed my knife and fork. If I crossed it through the first set of my fork, it meant it was breakfast, the second set it meant it was lunch and the third set meant it was dinner.
I was just wondering if you guys have ever heard of that?
Nancy Lopez
You are a very classy lady
With great manners your dad
Taught you well
eat with hand without fork and spn really nice man they are crazy i want to eat i dont want show the people lol
She's on an episode of Penn and Teller's show Bullshit lol. Watch it.
Ayo girl, you gunna eat dem peas?
why would click the video to watch informative etiquette eating, if you don't agree on how you should formally eat.
No ones pushing you to eat like that you were told on how to do it rightly. I think that's the reason too why you click and watch the video.
So when the grub excuse me
Main course arrives, I should
Take my bare feet off of the
Table?
😁
Wrong. Assuming you're right handed, you use the fork to hold the steak (for example) in your left hand and when the piece is cut lay the knife across the top of the plate then switch the fork to your right hand..........you THEN lift it to your lips. Don't use the fork to stab morsels from the plate..........slide the fork UNDER them.
What a smooth, urbane line, Jrod. Didn't you know that lapsing into the vernacular and cursing is a sign of 1. anger and frustration 2. small vocabulary 3 poor up-bringing 4 low IQ. Which of these best fits YOU?
😂😂😂
