I think everyone thinks they have to be at this really high standard right off the bat and they dont. You have to make mistakes to learn. Thanks for your comment Cleo.
I have only done a couple small free motion sewing. And that person suggested to unplug the foot feed and use the stop and go button because the speed is much more even.....and it works good. Thank you so much......for helping me to set my machine up for free motion. Did not know about going to settings to do this. Have saved your site, and will come back and see what you have to teach us.
Just purchased a Soprano machine and just found you. I think the two of you will be come my new best friends. Love your tips and videos which do help me sew with confidence. Thank You.
Hi Cassie, love your videos! Thank you for featuring BabyLock Soprano. I purchased my machine in the spring, am a newbie with quilting and applique and would like to incorporate designs into clothing vs. making quilts. Thank you so much for your free motion instructions.
Thanks for your comment im so glad to help. What I've always wanted to do is one of them 1950s skirts with an appliqued poodle on it. It would be so cute.
Hello Cassie. Love this video. Can't wait to start practicing! Maybe in the future you can teach us to make a quilt from start to finish on the Soprano. Your detailed instruction would be so helpful to us beginners. I am so happy I found you on utube!
Donna McLaughlin thank you That's a fantastic idea. Once I have my binding perfect I will do this for you. I'm currently on my third ever quilt. I'm also on Instagram and Facebook where I post daily if you would like another dose of Faodail in your life. 💙 I'm working on a paper piece star quilt.
If there is not one already out there, I would love a little class on the types and sizes of needles and thread and what applications they are best for. I never really know what to use or buy.
Brilliant! I have tried to do this meander pattern but always make such a mess of it. Love your tips on relaxing too - I always get quite stiff when I'm doing FMQ. I can do straight patterns with no problem, just can't seem to make the leap. Will have a go now though. (Any chance of you doing a paper piecing tutorial?) Thank you so much Cassie.
I have already created a paper piecing tutorial. If you are watching from a computer you can search. Let me know If you need me to provide the link to it.
Would like to see how you use the 'ecco foot. Is it for special free motion? Or what is the best way for this foot. And, do you set up the machine for in the 'free motion' setting for this foot too? Thank you
yes it is kind of a free motion, I use it for motifs or if i've done some fabric painting and want the motif to stand out. It helps with distance between each of the lines as you go out.
Why do you need to change or select the needle position to free motion? Isn't lowering the feed dogs enough? I'm very new to free motion, still in the practice stage 😊
Try to work on a coaster/mug rug. The reason I say this is it's only small and easy to manoeuvre about, while you get the hang of it. Its all about practice, that's all. I have every confidence in you, let me know when you give it a shot I think you'll be surprised. Making a coaster is also quick and easy so you're going to get the instant gratification from finishing a project.
Is there a trick to pulling the thread to the top layer so the back is not covered with tails to trim when you're finished? Should I use the knot button when I start?
Hi. Your meander is very nice & you explain things very clearly. Thanks! I have the same machine & it came with 3 free motion feet. A clear round one, an enclosed metal one with a very small hole for needle & one like you are using. I’m new at FMQ & so I don’t k which one to use. Do you have a recommendation?
Hi Cassie, Can you do some troubleshooting with thread tension during fmq on the Soprano. I'm having problems with skipped stitches and am wondering if this is the problem. Thank you!
I e never had trouble with thread tension in this machine. I'm wondering of its something else. Does your machine need cleaning, needle change, thread quality etc etc.
Loved the video. Thankyou! Can't wait to give it a go! Where do you find that Teflon sheet/paper? And do you put the hole in...or does it come that way?
Regular glide embroidery thread I think it's a 50 weight. I always use thr same weight in the top and bobbin thread. As that can cause issues with thread breaking and tension
The extension table provides so much more space for you to move about. Especially if you are doing a full quilt. Helps to manuore about. So glad thia has helped you. Cassie.
Maybe I misread her comment. Sometimes I use a thread stand if the thread spool is too big or if I'm using my favorite holographic thread as that need to come off the coil vertically. I use the thread stand often, it's something I would recommend you get.
Then you thread the thread is your presser foot in the raised position? When the threads look messy on top it's usually a bobbin issue. Is your bobbing wound correctly. Then after that I would like you to clean out your bobbin area. I have a video on how to do that too. There could be some lint in there that is raising your bobbin up and causing the issue. Let me know how you get on.
Most of the time it's just not threaded correctly. Make sure your needle is up when you thread. Also when was the last time you cleaned out the lint in your machine?

I have been wanting to do this for quite a while now. I have at least 6 quilt tops to be quilted. You made it look so easy. I can't wait to try.
It is very easy. Start on something small like a placemat then build your way up.

for sure i could do that
@@FaodailCreation thank you so much Cassie! I look forward to it. I love my Soprano!
Love your videos! I've been practicing my free motion quilting. What causes my thread to break?
Could be a few things, going to quickly, wrong needle, cheap thread, sometimes it just happens.

no you don't need to change or select the needle position. You are correct. Basically you become the feed dogs and move the fabric about
that's beautiful work
c Kim have you tried free motion on your machine?
not yet but i would like to try on something small.

Press needle up down and draw it up.

He clear round one is your echo foot. I use the o foot. I have never used the one with the small hole. I would recommend the o foot.
@@FaodailCreation thank you for responding so quickly. FMQ looks ALOT easier than it really is 😊

I e never had trouble with thread tension in this machine. I'm wondering of its something else. Does your machine need cleaning, needle change, thread quality etc etc.
@@FaodailCreation Hi Faodail, Since I started using better quality thread, I'm not seeing as many skips. Thank you!
That's awesome, glad you took the time to try out some troubleshooting. Thread makes a huge difference.
Loved the video. Thankyou! Can't wait to give it a go! Where do you find that Teflon sheet/paper? And do you put the hole in...or does it come that way?
You should be able to purchase one from your local sewing machine store. The hole is already there 💙
What thread weight do you use fot this free motion meander? And is your bobbin thread then the same weight?
Regular glide embroidery thread I think it's a 50 weight. I always use thr same weight in the top and bobbin thread. As that can cause issues with thread breaking and tension
Thank you so much. I was able to free motion my table runner with this tutorial. Why do you use the stand?
The extension table provides so much more space for you to move about. Especially if you are doing a full quilt. Helps to manuore about. So glad thia has helped you. Cassie.
Did she mean the thread strand rather than extension table? I am curious about the thread also.

I’m going to practice. Thanks. Can you do other designs
I'm practicing too 🙂 I did a design with a rular it was an echo square shape
My soprano has tension issues when I set the machine up for free motion sewing. I have done all that you say but the tension is too lose on the top.
I need help with tension. I get lots of loops on the bottom side
Most of the time it's just not threaded correctly. Make sure your needle is up when you thread. Also when was the last time you cleaned out the lint in your machine?
You didn't mention anything about the tension. Should the tension be high?
I never adjust it on my machine, I never have any issues
I’d love to see a freemotion drawing... or lettering.
Hi Nancy. Have you checked out this weeks video I just did on free motion quilting.
