I hope this video helps you out Its just how i go about replacing the belt and pulleys If theres any other videos i could help out with put it in the comments and ill see what i can do👍
Hey mate, i replaced all pulleys and installed a new belt couple months back and it just sheared yesterday whilst driving. I replaced but steering feels tight, would a stuffed power steering pump have caused the belt failure you reckon or something else? Thanks
I tried doing mine today without researching it half drunk half just stupid ended up snapping a bolt on the tensioner pulley. Now i have to go to u pull it and try find another bracket. I never really learn im apparently a good person but im stupid
The pulleys are always a bastard to get off at the best of times! Still the L36 Ecotec are great engines to work on & learn just like back in the day with my '72 HQ wagon (first car).
Yeah mate ive got the VX calais to do today then some other odd jobs on the VY Commodore as well Next time safety grandpa (dad) is over the Big fella and I are going to pull down a ecotec or 2 with a beer and pizza night down the shed
@@downtheshedwithbyron A while ago I bought a set of eBay o2 sensors & it's been throwing an engine code on my VY LS1 ute which was racking my brain. I had it hooked up to my scanner & as soon as you cleared the code, it'd come up again. In the end I bought NGK o2 sensors & the fault was cleared. I'll never buy eBay o2 sensor ever again. I reckon the big fella would love tearing into the Ecotec.
Also, some people say the pulley by the ac is a 004 not a 002, what’s your take on that? The kit I have uses a 004, but I think my commodore has a 002. Can I swap them out?
I'm a bit of DIY man with my VY 6cyc wagon. Could you shed some light on what seems to be a miss at around 58 kph? The car is duel fuel and it happens on both fuels. I've changed plugs, leads, coils, DLI module, cleaned MAF sensor. Prob still persists. As with most probs , they progress slowly. I thought it was a tailshaft prob, changed the mid bearing. Same result. It's a buggar!.Steve
Oh man thats a good 1 Id say a miss to test and check ignition system but sounds like youve done that Then fuel injectors but its on both fuels No engine lights? I guessing you've cleaned and checked all plugs to sensors? Vacuum leak or intake pipe split? Compression test or leak down test just to make sure cylinders are healthy eg rings and valves Im not sure dude sorry but keep me up dated 👍
great vid mate, just a quick question, should I replace the tensioner pulley or the entire bracket assembly? tensioner pulley itself is notchy and barely spins, so Im assuming its seized, would it have done damage to the whole tensioner assembly? this for my VS which chucked the belt off when driving. cheers 👍
@@downtheshedwithbyron Appreciate it mate 👍 Tensioner itself was fine in the end, just new pulleys and belt, now the mighty VS Commy runs like a thoroughbred.
The VY looks so much easier to work on than our VZ, I want to do the thermostat just as maintenance but of course, in the VZ it's right at the back of the block not nice and open like your VY :(
I hope this video helps you out

NIce Vid. For some cars the belt is a 2830 in lieu of the 2815. Some cars needed an extra 15mm for some reason.
Yeah we found that out a while ago on a mates statesman
Hi there great video, can you do a video same issue but on a Commodore v6 supercharger using the tensioner pully
Gday
Cheers mate yeah i probably could just need to find 1 for a video
very very good 100% job
Cheers mate
I have a set from GMB and the pulley for the tensioner is a GP002 vs the EP002 you showed. Will this still work?
Also, some people say the pulley by the ac is a 004 not a 002, what’s your take on that? The kit I have uses a 004, but I think my commodore has a 002. Can I swap them out?
Hey mate always Double check the parts
Use you vin number to Double check at the parts shop or measure the pulleys and see
Hey mate is the process the same for a v8 statesman
Yeah mate 👌
