Thankfully the products I cant return are just anti-dandruff stuff I can safely rotate in and out when needed and can be modified and even optimized using basic hair science principles. Thank you for what you do!!!

    you made a great point about wash n go's causing damage. i'm relaxed so i thought i'd lay off the heat styling so i wouldn't be breaking the bonds with chemicals and heat. for awhile my hair did seem to be healthier and i maintained a good amount of growth, but then it started looking and feeling really rough and the growth stagnated. when i thought about it and after hearing more information from videos like yours, i realized that by doing wash and go's all the time and letting my hair air dry i was never laying down and sealing the cuticle. air drying would leave the cuticles in my hair shaft raised, but blow drying and flat ironing would smooth them out and lay them flat. i'm still working on finding the right balance on frequency and the right temperature to use when flat ironing, but i won't be doing wash and go's as often now.

      @@IamCynDoll My only problem is that both sides what to RESTRICT what I can or can't do with my hair. If I want to get a 'Silk Press', that's my choice; if I want 'Bantu Knots' or a 'Twist out' or 'Braids' (MY hair) then that's my choice; if I wanna throw on a Wig on or use 'Braid' or 'Sew ins' again that's my choice. Hi Cyn. I am 67 and have gray hair. I wore it natural for over 10 years without flat ironing it. 2 months ago I decided to straighten my hair to be able to properly trim it. I followed all your tips (clean scalp, deep condition, heat protectant, etc.). My hair came out beautiful BUT when I washed it a week later, completely straight! I had no curls anywhere! I have never seen anyone have heat damage from root to end but I think I have. I wondered if this happened because I am now gray and my hair texture changed. I was 4b/4c. Also, my flat iron is a babyliss and it was set at 390 degrees. HELP!

    • @getchristielove
      @getchristielove 9 месяцев назад

      This happened to my friend. Either the hair is singed, so it can't curl like it was before. Or you have to retrain the curls. But heat can ruin a curl pattern.

    • @IamCynDoll
      @IamCynDoll  9 месяцев назад +12

      You gave yourself heat damage. Remember just because you haven’t used heat doesn’t mean your hair is healthy. Most likely you had holes in your hair shaft from years of natural styles like braids twist etc. when you add heat especially if you used any oil or butter of any kind you fried your hair.
      In the future practice before you use that flat iron. That’s a professional iron and to use that powerful tool on your head without knowing how to use it your first time in 10 years all combined to do it.
      You can’t bring the curls back but give yourself a OLAPLEX treatment to strengthen your hair and then do a roller set.

      @PAASNC 6 месяцев назад +3

      Hello sis! I hope by now you have found an appropriate response to your question. However, I wanted to offer you some accurate information to answer your question.
      Our hair has chemical bonds which determine the texture, strength, porosity, and consistency of each hair strand. We manipulate and break these bonds with chemical/product use and heat app,ication. Each chemical bond is responsible for a different characteristic in our hair. So to put it plainly, when you decide to straighten your hair and then return to a curly style, you have to be sure that you are washing and conditioning your hair with products specifically designed to revert the strands back to a curly state.
      I will not endorse any specific product brands. I also don’t endorse one method of hairstyling. There are too many women with long, strong, healthy hair (who don’t use heat) to say that it is not a healthy way to wear your hair.
      I also know women who use heat regularly who have long, strong, healthy hair.
      We must all remember that hair is a part of our body and just as our body has a scientific process so does our hair!
      So here are my basic tips based on my own experience and what I’ve gleamed from the natural hair community:
      1. Do your own research!
      2. Be aware of anyone pushing one method strategies.
      3. Remember to tailor your hair products to your hair. For example , if you have very porous hair, you may not want to follow someone who has low porosity hair for product recommendations. You may not get the same results on your hair.
      4. Be sure to decondition and try a mud mash treatment after having your hair straightened. I used to get heat damage every time I would get my hair straightened. Then a hair care specialist, (who mainly provides silk press treatments), advised me to use a mud mask after having my hair in a straightened style. Once I used the mud mask, my hair immediately reverted back to the coily state. I never get heat damage anymore. See, those products/process work for my hair. I do what works for my hair!
      5.Please, do not skip over getting your hair trimmed. I find that a lot of people don’t want to trim off dead ends. You’ll see all these videos where people are getting their hair silk pressed, and there will be a lot of length. Look closely at the ends and see if you can see split ends or a demarcation in the hair where the hair looks very see-through.I don’t hang onto raggedy ends just to say my hair is longer. I keep up with my trims and I take care of my hair in general. My hair is healthy and I don’t have any problem retaining length. I have often been accused of having fake hair because it is so healthy.
      6. Finally, remember that gray hair is very resistant and needs a little something extra to care for it properly. It tends to be drier and more brittle. Be sure to use moisturizers that work well for your hair. You may need a specialized treatment before and after wearing your hair in a straightens style. Building up the protein bonds helps to prevent permanent damage. The actual greying of the hair is due to the loss of pigmentation. So using shampoos and conditioners, specially made for gray hair is helpful. It keeps the shine in and prevents the hair from looking brassy or yellowish.
      I hope these tips will help you on your hair journey!

      Maybe you could do a blowout instead of a full on silk press, and just press the roots, edges, and perimeter of your hairline. I do that to mine a lot. Or flat iron it but use slightly less heat than you normally would so the hair isn’t left bone straight. It will have an ever so slightly texture to it. Adding volume. And then you could still straighten the front of your hair and a bit of the crown to still have the appearance of a flowy silk press.

    People are gonna always have something negative to say. You have to ignore them. Never let anyone's comments stop you from what you love! And are great at!!

      Comments don’t stop me from doing what I love 16 years was enough of my life given to the hair industry. I love to teach, create and build businesses. I’m doing exactly that. Thanks so much for watching.

    Hi Cyn, girl I sure wish you would go back to styling, we would be your clients period. However, I have a question, what happened to all of your clients? Believe me, stylists like you are VERY difficult to find. Lol, I can't find one so I am going to hairschool.

      Hey beautiful, I know you mean well but Don’t wish that on me.🤣 Sis that phase of my life is over and I couldn’t be more grateful.
      It’s been over 7 years love I’m not sure. It’s like the job you have now. When you retired or quit your not keeping up with how they replaced you or how they are making it without you. ❤️ It was my job and I’ve been blessed to do something else that brings me joy. Thanks soooo much for watching!
