Thank you Paul Brownstein and Filmrise for posting the Dick Van Dyke show. I watched these shows with my parents and sister in the 1960’s and thought the show was ever so sophisticated!
I was in stitches watching him fight Boom Boom Bailey. This is one of the funniest episodes I've seen. I never liked the Three Stooges but Dick Van Dyke is one of the funniest comedians ever. He's got the ability to move like no one else. Love him.👏❤️
A very young Gary Marshall as the ref. He went on to create /produce the Odd Couple TV series and Happy Days. He directed Pretty Woman and Beaches among other films. His sister Penny Marshall was Laverne (and Shirley) and the director of Big, Awakenings and A League of Their Own.
I love this episode because it gave Dick a lot of chances to improvise the physical comedy he loved to do. His last couple rounds with Boom Boom in particular!
There was a character on All in the Family also called ‘Boom Boom’, but wasn’t a boxer. Archie and Barney called Mildred Turner ‘Boom Boom’ for a totally different reason.🤭. Allan Melvin played Sol and Barney (Hefner).
12:50 That look on Rob's face after the guy talks about creating the "Dance of the Tambourines" 🤣🤣 If you're interested in seeing the movie "Body and Soul", be sure to skip the spoiler from 15:10 to 15:28.
I thought it was annoying but what everyone finds funny is subjective. I LOVE sarcastic humor but I know not everyone does so it's perfectly understandable that people would find something funny that I find annoying. 😊
The big guy played as the man who had a toy poodle for a pet, and the other guy played as "Rob's" friend throughout the Army scenes, but then, when he played as a jeweler who went to the Petrie's with the innocent intent of correcting a piece of jewelry of Rob's, Rob didn't know who he was.
Allan Melvin played a few characters on The Dick Van Dyke Show, including Harrison B. Harding and Sol Pomerantz. Harding is the character Rob doesn't recognize.
Also, Rob should have lost the fight. He took advantage of Bailey's respect, as Bailey, seeing he wasn't in fighting shape, did not fight him. Otherwise he would've simply knocked him flat while he was aiming uselessly.
And the episode didn't even end on an actual funny note with the whole "I hit him in the appendix" bit; he never even got close to the region of the appendix, so there was yet another lie the writers put into the script (they put lies and cheating into nearly every episode, tiresomely).
In the previous season, Rob is upset because Laura uses judo to flip a drunken harasser. He is 'Pitter Patter Petrie, a boxing champion in the army. He can handle himself (my wife says I should have been on the set to make these corrections).
Yep, I saw that, too. By no means did he hit him in the region of the appendix, but apparently everyone watching the show in the 1960s wasn't aware of that.
I dislike Sol in this episode. Not only does he shove Rob into a situation without asking him, he also has the gall to antagonize Laura for her perfectly valid concerns.
It's so stupid that Sol and the guys acted like Rob was a chicken considering he fought all the other times. And was known to be good at it. He refuses one fight, the last fight, that he never volunteered to do, and he's a coward. It makes no sense lol
"Rob?!"
"Champ?"
"Darling?!"
These lines are golden!
Dick Van Dyke was under rated. Super talent.
DVD has never been underrated a day in his professional life.

All these episodes used to be available without adds before. 😓
I have zero ads.

@@shorty7363 forget ads who says this show is sophisticated it's a bunch of goofballs and that's why it's my favorite show

How could anybody _not_ like the *Theee Stooges* ?

Thanks for the memories.
The army manager of Boom Boom also played the police duty sergeant in Hill Street Blues. "Stay safe out there."
I thought that voice was familiar
Michael Conrad
He also played on the DVD show as the big man who was picking up his Toy Poodle from a dog pound.
There was a character on All in the Family also called ‘Boom Boom’, but wasn’t a boxer. Archie and Barney called Mildred Turner ‘Boom Boom’ for a totally different reason.🤭. Allan Melvin played Sol and Barney (Hefner).
Thanks for the upload.💜
And shout out to Sam the Butcher the man of many roles in DVD and Andy Griffith
Yep, and Sergeant Hacker on "Gomer Pyle." 😊
His heart exploded.....
The fight announcer is a very young Gary Marshall.
He was a writer for the show as well
"You had lunch with a cannon"
"Boom boom!"
"Two cannons!"😂
Sol becomes Harry in the episode where he is a jeweler and visits Rob to fix his watch

What the heck! That punch was totally legal!
LOL laura grabbing his foot is so funny

Allan Melvin also did a lot of cartoon voices in animated shows like The Flintstones.
I have never seen this one.

You’re talking about Allan Melvin who played Rob’s army Buddy and the jeweller. He also did some episodes of The Andy Griffith Show.
@@garyfrancis6193 He was also on the Phil Silvers show playing another army guy.

Rob calls his buddy Sol,in a previous episode his name was Harrison B. Harding.

@@jb6712 Then stop watching the show & whining about it. Every one of your comments is a complaint about it 🙄

He hit Boom Boom ABOVE the belt, then later says he hit him below the belt? 😂
23'22 he hit him way above the belt...he got cheated on that
Back in 1960s there was no way to replay the blow, but, I too thought at the time it was above the belt. 😀

Above the belt in the stomach

Sol is a jerk in every episode.
@@bmyra True.
I have no reason to doubt that Sol actually believed Rob was talented in the ring though.
Alan Melvin Palyed Harry the horse in season one. He was on some great classic shows. DVD, Andy Griffith, All in the Family, and The Brady Bunch.
