David waa played by the boy who played Opie Taylor's best friend Arnold for several seasons on "The Andy Griffith Show." Also, he wasn't at the ceremony.
Sheldon Golomb who played David also appeared in the 1966 film The Russians Are Coming the Russians Are Coming as Pete Whittaker's son of Walt Whittaker played by Carl Reiner and has made numerous appearances on television shows from the early 1960's to the early 70's if my research is correct, he is Currently a Dentist, DDS, in the Colorado Springs/Pueblo area since moving there in 1986.
You all beat me to it… I’m probably around the same age as Sheldon… He had a magnificent screen presence. While I was growing up, I always noticed him, I would say “ Oh, there’s that guy again.” I remember him in one of my favorite episodes of the big valley. Sorry, I don’t know how to share this link with you, but there’s a fella who has a Andy Griffith show tribute channel on RUclips called “ 2 chairs no waiting.” He replays an interview with Sheldon that was done in 1998 which I found very interesting. If you haven’t already seen it I’m sure if you search “ two chairs, no waiting… Sheldon Golomb” you’ll run across it. He talks about his conversion from child actor to dentistry and a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff as a child actor. He grew up to be a real down to earth fella. All these years later, I enjoy running into him when I’m watching old reruns of the great television shows from the past. The sound quality in this interview is very bad at first… But it gets better as you listen it’s about a half hour long interview. Might help to listen to it through headphones .
Pippa Scott as Dorothy! She's in one of my favorite "Twilight Zone" episodes, "The Trouble with Templeton." She also worked with Dick Van Dyke in "Cold Turkey."

This is pretty cringe worthy if you're actually jewish. It is NOT ANYTHING like the way an actual bar mitvah goes. Sorry. Dick van dyke in a yarmulke is cute. But the cantor saying the shma (i think!) Followed by a speech is not what happens. In real life the "boy" gets an Aliya and then reads the haftara (which is the segment from the profits that goes with the weekly torah portion.) A lot of other people get called up first. That is to say, there's usually actual jewish people in the synagogue! Sorry (again) if I'm ruining this for you!

Beautiful episode, moved me to tears!
Me too! 🥲
I've seen it before, but I'm still in tears as I rewatch !

One of the most solemn episodes of the series.

Interesting episode!😁
Buddy's Mother is so cute.

THIS is by all means the most inclusive episode...together with the one where they thought they had to swap baby :)

Where was Pickles?
It’s interesting that Pickles doesn’t show up in the last scene. Buddy does mention her in his speech but she then is not with the crowd?
Budget I assume?
Wasn’t she standing right behind him in the last few seconds before it ended ?
@@ifamilymoments1965No. That was the rabbi's wife, Dorothy.

No Pickles in attendance? Why was she ignored?
She is there, sitting next to Buddy's mother.

They stopped using her as a character in the show
Pickles didn’t exist after season 2.
The tagline for the episode:

Strange that his wife Pickles was not in attendance although his mother was.
