I have enjoyed so much watching these old Dick Van Dyke shows! I'm a 70s kid and I remember most of them from back in the day. I don't know how on earth I could have forgotten this one...AND the fact that that's Dick's real brother! Thanks to all the comments for the reminder. I think this is a funny one, especially when "Stacy" is trying to be funny on the banjo😂😂 Nothing these days can compare to the clean, fun comedy of this show...I LOOOOVE it🎉
I agree, but at his age, frankly, even with his physical and mental abilities, I am sure he doesn't think much about it. Ten or twenty years ago? I'm sure. I have NOTHING but the utmost respect for him and his incredible life achievements, but professionally and personally. Speaking as someone who is only slightly more than two thirds his age, and I don't want to sound morbid or derogatory, I'd HATE to live that long, and I'm not kidding. Give me early to middle eighties, tops, and I'm ready.
I think that it was very ahead of it's time for the Dick Van Dyke Show to bring up the topic of mental illness, and how families dealt with the issue back in the day. Rob Petrie's protection of his younger brother is it very sweet, and understandable.
Despite what Stacy said at the beginning, he was not at Rob and Laura's wedding. They got married at Rob's army base, with no family in attendance. Rob's mother brings up that fact whenever her character is on the show. Then she bursts into tears.
Yeah, consistency was not the show's strong suit. Still wonderful, though. There was also mention of Rob having a brother in one of the first episodes, but that he was married -- it had to do with Sally being single, of course.
Oh I just commented that and I didn't see yours! He sure does give Woody Harrelson vibes here! Both the Van Dyke brothers were talented ,each in their own way :)
When Jerry Van Dyke guest-starred on the MTM Show, about 10 years after this, he played a comedy writer for the Chuckles the Clown Show, who wanted to be a stand-up comedian. He had one booking at a bowling alley, and he tanked miserably. He was not, however, a sleepwalker.
Stacey could not have met Laura at her wedding. Neither Rob nor Laura had any family at their wedding, at the Camp Crowder Army Base infirmary. It's a long story. Told in flashbacks in another episode.
@@user-bu7ig1dr9e uh, it was just an observation, a bit of trivia that we DVDS fans are prone to look for, nothing snarky or critical about it - unlike your response.
I always wondered how Jerry Van Dyke would've done had he stayed on as Sheriff Andy Taylor's new deputy on _The Andy Griffith Show_ (as Barney Fife's replacement).
wow. looks like they just sewed some corporal stripes on a suit. No divisional insignia, no unit awards or personal award ribbons, branch identification, NCO stripe on the trouser leg or anything. Bet he isn't even brass on brass under there.
I have to admit, even when I was a KID I hated the episodes with his brother in them. They were always "forced" and they always basically, well, sucked. NOTHING personal about his brother, but even in other situation comedies and such, I wasn't a fan. Coach comes to mind. I just changed the channel.

I like how they act and sound so similar. It's cool that they got his real brother
wow he is his real brother? didn’t know that!

LOVE HOW LAURA RATTLED THE TELEGRAM TO FOOL ROB THAT SHE HADNT ALREADY READ IT.
Dick formed a club called "The Burfords" while in high school, hence the nickname. They were reunited on his "This is Your Life" tribute.
Man, I wonder how Dick Van Dyke feels sometimes knowing he's outlived everyone on this show, as well as his younger brother.
You forgot one more. Larry Matthews the second surviving member of the show.
lucky?
He was in a parking deck and was asked by reporters how he was doing, after he was in a wreck. He said Ok but all his friends were dead.
@@pedrogonzalez5075 I think we'd all rather forget him.

Jerry Van Dyke was adorable. ❤

Mary is so beautiful great episode thanks
Despite what Stacy said at the beginning, he was not at Rob and Laura's wedding. They got married at Rob's army base, with no family in attendance. Rob's mother brings up that fact whenever her character is on the show. Then she bursts into tears.
Good catch! 😅

OMG the two brothers sounds so alike.
I just watched an episode tonight of Diagnosis Murder in which Jerry Van Dyke plays Stacey Sloan, brother of Mark Sloan (Dick Van Dyke).
Rob's brother Jerry, Stacey here, reminds me of Woody Harrelson, with hair...
Oh I just commented that and I didn't see yours! He sure does give Woody Harrelson vibes here! Both the Van Dyke brothers were talented ,each in their own way :)
This is my favorite Jerry Van Dyke episode. Despite the fact it's the 1st one.
The Van Dykes should have had their own show.
It would have been wild!
@@LADYKAT... Great lines by Morey Amsterdam & Jerry Van Dyke together.
22:01 "its a wonder i didnt wake up, huh?" Blows my mind.
Jerry Van Dyke could play the banjo like no joke!
I love Dick Van Dyke.
To get the full 🌝 experience should watch 😂 part two of this episode.
I like the face on the banjo 😊
He'd make a good coach.
I love him on Coach.
😂
This guest was great here
Jerry Van Dyke, Dick's brother.
THE BROTHERS VAN DYKE IN THAT TV SHOW AND TV SERIES
When Jerry Van Dyke guest-starred on the MTM Show, about 10 years after this, he played a comedy writer for the Chuckles the Clown Show, who wanted to be a stand-up comedian. He had one booking at a bowling alley, and he tanked miserably. He was not, however, a sleepwalker.
Jerry Van dyke was funny
He was hilarious on Coach and Yes Dear.
@@patrickworkman1014 Both Coach & Yes Dear had great 😃 casts.

Oh absolutely! Loved him in Coach and Yes Dear. 😂
Stacy's character is goving me strong Woody Harrelson vibes!

I see that the network made them clean up the pelican joke. The punchline is supposed to be "How do I get this guy off my ass?"
He is in a much better place
20:20 I can’t stop laughing
Laura is wearing that same blouse as in the pilot.
So? she plays a house wife, don’t you where your clothes over and over?

When she was alive(1936-2017), Mary Tyler Moore was a most desirable and very attractive lady! RESPECTFULLY.
She also went out of her way to help children with Type 1 diabetes.
One of Dick Van Dyke's daughters is named Stacey. No doubt that is why Jerry Van Dyke's character is named Stacey.
GREAT!
Rob's tie and kerchief!!!
I always wondered how Jerry Van Dyke would've done had he stayed on as Sheriff Andy Taylor's new deputy on _The Andy Griffith Show_ (as Barney Fife's replacement).
At 2.30, it takes the audience a couple of seconds to get the bathtub joke:-).
There was no bathtub joke at 2:30.
@@garyfrancis6193sorry, it's at 8.28. I don't know why it appeared to me as a different time stamp, before.🤔
Unlike a lot of people I liked his brother. He was funny.
I thought he was calling him Bert as in short for Robert
Also Alan Brady was in this one but slightness.
Sightless? Do you mean “unseen”?
@@garyfrancis6193 Yean I used the wrong word.
Jerry Van Dyke’s daughter hanged herself. She had been a porn star and had a drug problem. It was very sad.
10lbs of ribs! Goodness, that's a massive amount of meat.
First comment. Thanks for the upload
There go Luther Van Damme
This episode seems five hours long.
🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😅😅😅😅😅
Jerry had a show of his own but it didn't last very long
I saw Jerry in all kinds of shows growing up in the early 1980s.

They wrote it as sleep walking, but to me this is bipolar.
Jerry played a lousy comedian on a Mary Tyler Moore episode.

after watching this i'm convinced these "wholesome" actors did coke. never could stand jerry van dyke in any role early nor recent
What recent roles have you seen him in? He died 5 years ago.
Dick Van Dyke had an alcohol problem which he kicked in the 70s he has been sober since then
Me too.
Funny how one brother in the family can get allll the good looks. Dick Van Dyke was very handsome. The brother, not so much.
For me both handsome, but Jerry is better looking than DVD
BORING
YUP!
Yes you are

Your sex life im sure lol
Every time I come across this episode it reminds me what an awful actor Jerry.Van Dyke was. Completely talentless.
Well, he certainly lacked your sparkling talent for unkindness.

Jerry Van Dyke's second TV Show lasted longer then his first one.
