    Since my daughter was 6 we've went to the Nutcracker ballet... and we get real dressed up for the evening, have a nice dinner out at a restaurant and she gets a couple nutcrackers as gifts. Now at 23 we still do it but travel to other cities to see their ballet and she's amassed a collection of over 50 nutcrackers. We've probably been to seven other cities across the country just to see different companies rendition.

      That sounds like an amazing tradition! How fun to travel all over to see the Nutcracker!

    We do ornaments as well. Christmas Eve we have finger foods and do the sock exchange. Instead of buying presents, we bring a pair of socks and play a game. The reader reads a Christmas story and every time the reader says right or left, that is the way you pass the socks. When the reader finishes the story you get to keep the socks you have. They can be Christmas themed socks, silly socks, socks with wine bottles... usually there is always a pair or two that everyone wants. It makes the game more fun. We have the adults pass to adults and kids to kids, or the kids end up with socks to big.

      @jenleecardmaking  3 года назад

      How fun! We used that same poem except with an "adult" gift...which is what we called them to distinguish them from the kids gifts lol There was always that one person who just had to give something inappropriate!

    You have asked about building Christmas memories. One I did for "ever" with my kids was, hot chocolate under the tree, they each chose an ornament that I told a story about. I just made up a story, they were not outstanding (!) however, both of my kids are grown and now share this same "memory" builder with their kids. We did it more than one night, say twice a week, it made bedtime special and the ornaments.

    • @jenleecardmaking
      @jenleecardmaking  2 года назад

      That sounds like a fun tradition, Jan! It's the little things with family that make the memories.

    I have a suggestion for your boys. There are many popsicle stick ornament videos on Pinterest & RUclips. They are glue together paint & embellish projects. I still have some ornaments my son made when he was young. A walnut skier. A faux stained glass nativity wall hanger, bead wreath & candy cane & a mini nativity glued onto a cardboard circle set on cotton inside a plastic hollow open front ornament. Their are treasures for sure.

    I love these cards and papers. I went to Tuesday Morning last year and bought like 5 or 6 different discontinued Christmas pads that they get from the suppliers or other craft stores and I love to make Christmas cards with them. Christmas is my favorite time of the year and when I can get a good bargain on Christmas papers, I jump at it. TFS!

    Great cards, especially if you have a lot of cards to send out. When I was young (in the 1950s) my mother made a big picture to hang on the living room wall. She got a roll of brown paper for the background and then she drew, painted, coloured with crayons, pencils, or whatever was available, plus she added things that were cut out from plain white paper, etc. As we got older, we contributed to the picture. It was a lot of fun and took several days to complete. Usually by the end of Christmas it wasn't worth keeping, but the memory is there.
    Michael's Canada has the same paper packs at 2 for 1 ($11.99) for anyone who might be interested. I can't go to stores (extreme high risk) but thought I'd let others know.

    Just found your video on Christmas cards! It's 2022 now and I'm not thinking of making cards yet, but will soon. I do love the Michaels Hot Buy pads and try to get one or two every year for Christmas. I had a tradition when my 2 boys were small. Every Thanksgiving or Christmas we would do two things. First, we'd go and buy groceries for a nice holiday dinner, like meat, canned yams, spuds, cranberry sauce, etc. and take the full bag to the local fire station to give to needy families. The other thing we would do, would go to a gift tree somewhere in town, usually at a grocery store or big box store, that contained tags from different foster kids with a wish list, and we would pull 2 or 3 tags off and get one of the gifts they asked for, and go home, wrap it, and bring it back to put in the bin for them to be picked up. My kids still remember doing this, even now being in their 40's!

    One year the presents were just a few per kid, so the presents were hidden and the first clue was the tree. The next clue was the present just found, etc. The kids loved it, and so do the grandkids.

    Great video just found your channel and am making my Christmas cards now as I always seem rushed if I wait until November. I live in Canada and don't find that we get many good deals at Micheals here. I am currently working on the Micheals pads I have and now have more ideas from this video to use them up.
    Do you have any videos on regular cards? I am trying to build up a stash of Birthday cards etc so I always have some ready to go. Thanks for sharing.

    This was so fun to watch. You made 10 cards in such a short time snd each card has its own design. Lovely! I would be interested in seeing how you cut up your 12x12 paper. You said you cut it in half. What measurements are you cutting the rest in order to get so many cards?

    • @jenleecardmaking
      @jenleecardmaking  3 года назад

      Hi Pamela! Thanks for stopping by and I'm happy that you enjoyed the video. If I recall, this paper was from a Michael's paper pack which comes with a lot of paper. I cut the 12x12 paper into four 6x6 squares. I do this because the size of card I make is usually 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 and also because I can then store leftover paper in my 6x6 container. The only ones that I don't cut like that are the papers with big images and those I would fussy cut. I hope this helps!

      Hi Rita! Photo's are one of my favorite traditions....I love looking back and seeing how everyone has changed, especially the kids. They grow so fast! Most of the time I use the foam rolls from the .99 store...it comes on a roll of individual squares.
