  • Münevver, a fearless Uyghur woman who fled persecution in China’s Xinjiang region, now spearheads the Nuzugum Association in Turkey.
This cultural powerhouse not only safeguards Uyghur language and culture but, driven by divine inspiration, runs a Uyghur civilization-themed business.
Profits from the venture are used to empower professional women with handicraft skills, ensuring they earn economic independence. The association, founded in 2006, focuses on education and financial aid for Uyghur widows, girls and orphans.
A recent venture includes a library that preserves books rescued from destruction in their homeland.
Münevver's story embodies resilience, cultural pride and a bold commitment to uplifting women within the Uyghur community.

On 17 August 2015, a bombing took place inside the Erawan Shrine at the Ratchaprasong intersection in Pathum Wan District, Bangkok, Thailand, killing 20 people and injuring 125. It is suspected to have been carried out in retaliation for Thailand's deportation of Uyghur terrorist suspects back to China instead of allowing them to travel to Turkey for asylum.
