Why Your iPhone Alarm Isn't Going Off

- If your iPhone’s alarm hasn’t been waking you up lately, you’re not alone. Users across the internet have complained of oversleeping. Questioning whether their alarm went off at all. And now we know, it likely didn’t. Since Apple recently made a statement admitting to a bug that may silence your iPhone’s alarm. And the reason why could be found in the past. Since this isn’t the first time iPhone alarms have failed.
Meanwhile I just thought I've become so sleep deprived that alarms didn't work on me anymore
nah its true

Nah on my life, this is what I thought
at this point i just got mad at it so i got all 3 of my devices and my alexa and just set like 7 different alarms on all of them, now i’m waking up at 6am everyday!

I'm a light sleeping and never overslept my alarm but the other day I literally missed class cus my alarm never rang 💀💀 thought I just forgot to set it or I slept thru it and never questioned it but damn this explains everything
Heard of an Alarm Clock? 😂
Thank You for this! I really thought I was in deep sleep often so I didn't hear it.
I need to send this to my co-workers and my boss, luckily I switched to Android last year and my alarms have been going off just fine now
Yep. I moved to a 3rd party alarm app + Alexa for months now. Been burned too many times by the Apple alarms.
I always thought i just turned it off in my sleep. So i started putting my phone facedown and i havent had a problem since
legit thought i was the only one experiencing this 😭

This bug had been happening for YEARSS
So you're saying it's been there for multiple iOS versions without fixing the bug? That's so odd. Apple is sometimes so unaware.
@@Delicate141yep. I occasionally have this big problem for years

Didn’t it make you think to move to a third party app? Sounds so frustrating!
This is why I use a traditional older alarm that a keep in my bathroom. It's loud as hell so I actually have to physically get out of bed to turn it off. Having it on my phone makes it too easy for me to give in to temptation and hit snooze over and over.

What??? Tell me more
They just fixed this today. Brandon Butch on RUclips made a video about it
@@caroline_catbridges_kitty5384 Ik abt the update (I already updated) but I was talking more specifically about how and why it happened
The bug has nothing to do with the Attention Awareness setting, which has been a setting for years now (do turn it off though as it does lower the volume of the alarm clock considerably if you look at the screen while the alarm goes off!). I do happen to know what the issue is though:
This bug even occurs if you have Attention Awareness turned off and occurs **whenever you set multiple alarms**, basically if you let the initial alarm ring and then don't press the Snooze button before the second alarm starts, that second alarm and any one past that will not make a sound whenever you finally hit the snooze button for the first one. It has happened for many months now and it has taken me months to figure it out because I'm always half asleep when it happens, I put in a ticket with Apple about a month or two about it though, good to hear they're working on it
imagine getting fired because of this
I actually got fired because of this bug back in 2018..🫠
Kudos to apple
i almost did💀
Same. I've been written up repeatedly in the past over this crap. I feel so vindicated
This legit happened to me two weeks ago and my mom said it was an excuse so I showed her a bunch of articles and videos, and I even proved to her
What really sucks is when I oversleep and wake up to see both my iPhone AND my iPad alarms going off silently. It’s really random too. Some mornings, they both work great!🤷♂️
This is a groundbreaking b̶u̶g̶ feature from Apple. The neural network neatly monitors your lifestyle and intentionally turns off the alarm for you to get better sleep!
Bro like wow, i have been experiencing this since like half a year now, always getting late for classes due to this thing, it keeps on vibrating but doesn't even play a bit of sound. This thing just hurts man!
I am not alone!!!
I have an ancient phone with an outdated iOS version. I see this as an absolute win for once.
As I do for having other devices with alarms, including my Neo Geo Pocket, Pokémon Mini, 3DS with Sleep Clock app and PSP with Talkman! (Talkman is a language translator app that also has a metric calculator and alarm clock!)
A legit excuse for your boss if you’re late to work. Whoop!
i reccomend turning your volume+ringer up all the way and switching ur silent switch off before sleeping so it will be loud enough
Does it happen on Apple Watch too? Cause I use my Apple Watch as an alarm clock and have been doing so for years and not once have I encountered anything similar.
How can apple be failing at *the alarm clock app*? That is such a trivial feature, what bullshit are they trying to layer on top of it that's breaking things?
Apple tried to add too many features to the alarm.
all thats needed is ring when the hour i set it to comes. thats it.
My iPhone alarms have not been working consistently since roughly 2017. There were many times where I would wake up to my phone being hung on the alarm screen for hours after the alarm was meant to go off with absolutely no audio whatsoever, blocking other notifications and phone calls. It has persisted across newer iPhone models and I can't see it stopping anytime soon.
This is insane. I'm using a Samsung phone and have never had alarm issues. I am considering switching to the Apple ecosystem because I like their "it just works" methodology. I prefer the inbuilt apps provided by the manufacturer/company over third-party apps. The fact that Samsung has their act together but a trillion-dollar company like Apple doesn't is absurd to me.
to be fair isn’t samsung also a trillion dollar company
People drop a grand for a phone that cant set an alarm 💀
I was recently fired my job for this reason. Finally using my college degree and was denied unemployment because being tardy is “ considered misconduct” . THIS IS STRAIGHT BS .
Thank you for this video, i feel less alone now with people having the same issue as i do.
Whenever i had an appointment in the next morning, i used to put a single alarm but it didn’t go off, resulting in not waking up on time
So now i have to put several alarms with a 5 minutes interval in order to wake up right on time, i hope that Apple with fix this issue!
So this is why my phone is going to make me late for school :D
When they do fix it they should add an alarm ringer besides the regular phone ringer, why do they have to be the same volume? Android has had this for years I doubt it will come to the iPhone which is so frustrating.
Good to know eveyone else is expecting this but it’s been going on for like 2-3 month straight but this month it was finally working but today August 12/24 it starting the cycle all over again and if I set a alarm with a song, it dosent even play the freaky song I want for my alarm instead it plays the default apple alarm L0L
One more reason for me to not switch to iPhone
I discovered that if you have a Focus setting that enables/disables automatically at the same time your alarm goes off, it mutes the alarm
I found this cuz I naturally woke up a few minutes before my alarm went off and I watched it happen with disbelief
I was so pissed. This is now common
Here at apple we value your health and want to help you get more sleep, so we invented a new and amazing future. The new Automatic (and) Intentionally Random clock or in short "AIR clock"*
*Only available on iphone 26 pro max ultra and newer
I am 17 and i am not that of a great sleeper but still the alarm didnt manage to wake me up when i was in japan a few months ago where i had a morning flight to catch that would have costed hundreds of dollars if i missed it , but luckily my dad managed to knock the door so hard that it was like a instant wakeup and i stared at my alarm clock and the ringer was at 100 and it showed it was still playing but it had no audio output , great , so i was wondering during the flight that was someone in the room with me while i was alone who starred down at the phone which made the alarm stop or this is some type of glitch but again yesterday i wanted to go on a roadtrip which started at midnight and again the alarm didnt went off , so i searched that is it really a glitch or i had become a heavy sleeper.
One of the simplest features in the world, and Apple f*cks it up… I don’t know programming language, but this doesn’t seem too difficult right? I’m losing confidence in Apple more and more each year.
Potential work around to this issue could be owning and wearing an Apple Watch while you sleep. It maybe won‘t help with the alarm not going off at all. But it could potentially fix the issue of it being to quiet. Typical. Create a problem, sell the solution.
I've never had an iPhone but I've had several Samsung phones and all of them sometimes failed to sound the alarm. I'd get a "missed alarm" notification, which should be literally impossible since the alarm keeps going indefinitely until I turn it off. Very often the same thing happens when someone calls me (I'm talking like 25% failure rate, reproducible on multiple Samsung phones - it's bad).
The last time I had a phone with an actual working alarm and working phone calls was a Nokia brick way back in the day.
I missed my $2000 flight due to this issue, it's not a joke ! this has to be taken seriously !! when customer can't even relay on basic alarm services !!
Just buy your mom an Android 😏
Just buy for yourself an Android 👍
There is a tiny solution that I found out on have to put it on FULL volume for you to here and it won’t be loud even though it’s on full volume. NO JOKE
Now my mom will finally believe me
My alarm does always go off but for a few days in a row it didn't wake me up because it was silenced. It wasn't even silenced by the silence switch but in the sounds thingy in settings I had 'change with buttons' on so instead of lowering my volume it lowered my notification sound volume. Even off silent it wouldn't make noise but then I turned off the setting and turned my sound back up. That did fix it but I think it's stupid to even have that feature.
This is ridiculous, I use my Apple watch SE to wake me up and it does it perfectly well without ever any bugs.
You can’t be serious. This has screwed me over so many times and I didn’t know what was happening
Luckily I have never experienced this problem with my iPhone.
luckily you have not experienced this problem with your iphone YET.
luckily i cant ever experience this, since i switched from iphone to the dark side aka android
Ugh this keeps happening to me. Apple, FIX YOUR OVER PRICED PHONES.
I have an iPhone 15 Plus on iOS 17.1.1 but I use an iPhone 3G on iphone OS 3.1.3 for an alarm though LOLL.
I keep on being late to work because of this. If I lose my job imma sue Apple 😭
Can't wait for the next update to introduce a bug that disables phone calls...
In my anroid phone in the lock screen it doesn't show the actual time after I unlock it it shows the correct time

This is why I’ve also got 2 ‘HomePod mini’ speakers (as stereo, idk if that even matters, at this point) at head height left and right of my bed. They’ve been working great.
"Apple don't know why"
Fam you PROGRAMMED THE THING!
And I was thinking some supernatural thing is happening with my Alarm
Thanks for informing us cause I missed class multiple times because of missing my alarm lol
This is why I use Alarmy. You get lots of customization on the app, and I have never had a bug where it didn’t wake me up (except for when Apple changed some policies, then it needed to update)
This is why I use a regular alarm clock. I hate using my phone as an alarm.
my roommate has been experiencing this too... well... man's gotten too good at sleeping through his alarm or turning em off at light speed
Or just use a battery powered analog alarm clock that never fails
For years my iPhone would randomly not wake me up. I’ve woken up 2 hours later with the alert still on screen that an alarm is actively going off but no sound and no vibration. Thought maybe I was just so so tired that I slept through the noise and it timed out. Partly why I wear my Apple Watch overnight, i haven’t had it miss yet and monkey brain like seeing colorful sleep tracking bars. But iOS has been infuriating me lately so I’m back on android. Can’t use Apple Watch with it and last galaxy watch I used felt like a separate device entirely unconnected to the phone, that was still in beta testing phase.
The funniest part about it is apple has stated the reason they didn’t put calculator and weather apps on iPad is because they want to “make it great” When they can’t even figure out the clock properly.
istg even Apple Explained is gonna give up on some of Apple's bs 💀
I added a billion automations to make my volume max and then i see this
yeah! its my problem too, Good thing I have my android

Lmao imagine Steve screaming about this bug at the office. The unholy wall punches down the entire hallway to the alarm clock team department with a foot print on the door and the doorframe just snapped
He would say “You are holding it wrong”. Oh, I meant you are setting alarm wrong
This type of thing is exactly why im hesitant to update my devices
This never happened to me cause I don’t have enough storage to update 😎
Title of the video: why the alarm isn’t working…. The video: we don’t know why….
Please make a video how apple made the day / night time changing photos from the iMac / MacBook! Are they real pictures shot in the morning, afternoon and night? Because the camera didn't move at all.
I did have this issue when i was in UK recently when I live in the US. It was odd because it went off before but not the one day when i really needed it to.
That’s so embarrassing for such a basic simple thing
There used to be a bug (at least I hope it wasn't intentional) where your alarms wouldn't go off if your iPhone updated. I personally still don't risk it and have updates set to manual instead of automatic.
That brings up another can of worms. The phone NOT updating when you have it set to update automatically.
I use my iPad as an alarm and it hasn’t helped much either
I lejit thought thay i was going crazy or something
Does the Apple Watch have the same issue?
Not sure but Homepod sure does. Alarm went off but checked the settings and that alarm was off. Also think it hasn’t been going off
I’m expecting a similar issue with my recurring alarm. What are some reputable third party apps I can use? I’m Andrew.
This has made me late for work countless times
And apple users swear they have the superior device
If I have to go to work next day, I will always set up two different devices with an alarm, for example the iPhone and my Alexa
“Why” your iPhone Alarm isn’t going off? Proceeds for two and a half minutes to not tell why 🙃
This guy can be a politician
Just had this problem earlier, now i know why. Thanks Greg
I knew something was up. I use bedtime alarm and sometimes it never goes off. Been having this happen for quite awhile now and it made me late to work several times. I now run the bedtime alarm and a secondary normal alarm incase bedtime fails. I also turned off the feature that stops the alarm when you raise your phone.
Can’t believe this is still an issue all these years later.
A Trillion dollar company making thousand dollar phones couldn’t figure out properly working alarms. Still people buy them, what a weird world we live in!
My alarms seem to go off like clockwork during waking hours, but the last few months (at least) I’ve been oversleeping so much that I’ve had to rely on family members, who I know are awake early, to call me on mornings I absolutely have to be awake by a certain early time. I thought it was due to my low ringer volume, so I turned on the “change [ringtone and alerts] volume with buttons” setting so I can quickly crank the system volume before I go to sleep, but even that didn’t seem to work. I chalked it up to turning the alarm off on my watch, either unknowingly or accidentally when I meant to snooze it, so I turned clock notifications off on my watch so I can’t accidentally brush the watch face and turn the alarm off or whatever was happening. When that still didn’t help, I thought for sure I was turning it off in my sleep, maybe fully asleep and turning it off or accidentally hitting ‘cancel’ when I meant to snooze it, so I set my phone out of reach of my bed. When that still did nothing, I considered it was maybe a bug with conflicting alarms, like one alarm going off and overlapping with the next alarm and the two canceling each other out, so I made a concerted effort to space alarms out to go off within the nine min snooze and outside of the nine min snooze to prevent two or more alarms from going off at the same time and still nothing…
