What a BAND!
Wynton was 20 years old. incredible.
He is genial!
54:30 Amazing crazy solo of Kenny! Now he plays it for God
Kenny Kirkland was a genius!
37:40-39:00 is magical. Between Tain and Kirkland, that build is magnificent, how Kirkland finds Tain's beat and then Tain immediately switches it to build texture. Chef's kiss.
When Kenny started playing Chance as intro, I was sure it would be continued (it’s my absolutely favorite one written by him, so touching!)
Ahead of their time is an understatement.
Set list:
I’ve Never Been in Love Before; Paraphernalia; Father Time; Who Can I Turn To; The Collector; Later
I did see this band live in 1982. I was 13 years old and am a fan ever since.
Kenny!
Phil is a beast on the bass
These cats picked up where Miles Davis left off with his mid 60s quintet. The Marsalis brothers have come a long way in their musical careers since then and we’re all for the better as a result.
😉✨🎶
that first take on i've never been in love before was amazing, so upbeat. i had only heard chet's take, amazing as it is, ain't upbeat... beautiful Marsalis may the Gods bless him....
Los Marsalis, en los primeros años. Se juntaron varios grandes músicos que siguieron sus carreras. Que decir de Wynton y Kenny 🎶
Tremendo!! Sección rítmica histórica!!!
That's JEFF, not "Geoff" "Watts. LOL!
ChristianMcBrideTV Genio! Please come to Argentina!
LMAO they missed that one
Jeff "tain" Watts
Haha yes the one and only Tain ! Also cool to see him so young and playing a vintage Gretsch. One of my all time favorite drummers!
Go Kenny go!!!!!
The band is burning red hot
Thanks for sharing this unique footage!
Sick!
And that is his brother Branford Marsalis on the sax!!!
le meilleur !!! 🔵⚪🔴
Maravilha. Muito bom essa relíquia de vídeo.
great!!
Eccezionale,
Spoke truth about entities makin money off of selling vids, etc. of the music. Dude probably thought Wynton was spoiled or not grateful. Dude had some typically dumb questions though. Wynton probably hadn't conceived of the impact he'd have & the $$$$$ to come. At any rate the music & the self control while challenging themselves & boundaries, was fire, many ways.
(00:46:33) Vale a pena repetir.
Hotep from (A)Ngola!
(00:46:33) o tempo fica suspenso ...
Hotep from (A)Ngola!

Paraphernalia
somebody knows the name of the song at 15:05 ?
it's Paraphernalia, a Wayne Shorter composition; the original recording is on Miles Davis' Miles in the sky
what’s the name of the first tune?
I’ve never been in love before
(JAZZ!MUSIC)! LEGEND! (WM)! NOW! YOU! KNOW! THE! ORIGINAL! (JAZZ!MAN)! BLACK!MAN! 🙂*MIKE! SPENCE! HA! HA! HA!
This brings back my childhood. I sure couldn’t stand him when I was a little kid lol. I thought he was arrogant and overhyped. I’d leave the room every time my dad would watch him. Yes, at 7 years old, he was like my arch nemesis lol. I must admit, even now I do far better prefer an aged Wynton to that of this young buck but the music was still good. Now? I love me some Wynton but back in the day? You couldn’t pay me as a 2nd grader to watch a minute of him perform lol.
Very interesting, I much prefer the young buck
