    This is the decking I have used, by Composite Prime check clink on their link here
    www.composite-...
    This video is about How to lay a composite deck. I am using a new wide plank from Composite Prime to build my deck outside my summer house in my garden.
    I show you how I set out the job using some basic lined paper, then cut all the pieces needed to complete the deck, it was then a simple job to install the deck using the great clips supplied by Composite Prime
    I show you how I mark and cut rips and scribes and the various tools that can be used for the job
    I finished the deck perimeter with a matching flat fascia screwed to my structure
    The job was really enjoyable and looks fantastic

    Great job as always.. I did a massive composite decking job in the summer for a client in Essex.. Hottest time of the year.. And when I set out the deck and started laying the board the client wasn't happy about the big expansion gaps.. That was until the sun hit the boards and the gap disappeared.. You really need that gap.. Also I had to start about 6am so I could get a fair bit done before the sun and heat kicked in.. Cheers.

    • @dickdoc3337
      @dickdoc3337 3 года назад +1

      Interesting Jim that is can expand that much would that be approx 5mm per board ?. What is the composite board like when water lays on top or gets wet is it like an Ice rink ? Another question about health what about off-gas unhealthy fumes thought that composite board can give VOC fumes even more when sun beats down (there is whole list of VOC that is unhealthy for you Cancer is one of them among others.)

    • @jimcraiggeezer
      @jimcraiggeezer 3 года назад +1

      @@dickdoc3337 expansion is as per instructions.. It pays to follow the data sheet from your particular material.. I was surprised to see it expanding the full 5/7mm (it was 30c plus though) .the board I have used is a nonslip board but I have seen some algae in very damp and shady areas.. Easy to clean though... No idea about the voc sorry.

    Great video Robin, thank you. Well, as a DIYer I’m glad to see I did mine pretty much the same way as you! A few points I’d add for guys like myself: I’ve got a Ryobi impact gun and it was way too full on for the fixings. I used my drill driver. If you store the composite outside over a winter and a warm spring before installing, it definitely won’t be straight! I did a picture frame border in bullnose boards. I used the composite subframe and I would not do that again, it’s evil stuff imho even though it will never rot. I did mine from the picture frame border and worked back to the wall because I knew I’d end with a scribed cut and it seemed easier that way. To fasten down my cut boards I cut slots in it with a router using a biscuit cutter and used the fixings. As mentioned by others, the composite is a saw blade killer. I used EnviroBuild Frontier, they supply colour matched screws for both the deck and the fascia. I thoroughly enjoyed installing mine and I love the finish. There’s a far less professional video of mine on my channel for anyone that’s interested.

    On this one we work totally different. I lay out boards all over the deck which is very useful if up high as you use them to walk about on rather than just the joists. String my first row and fix in accordingly. Then measure and line about every fifth row depending on width of board and area to cover. Never could be bothered with dragging all the boards over a drop saw I have always marked and cut in situ. Super quick and less lugging of boards. I use a fine cut saw blade on a circular saw and a speed square. I mostly cut and loose lay my five rows and then fix them off and repeat. I don't like blocks of joints and so stagger every joint if I can so totally random but then the boards I use don't specify double joists and span 450mm. I will never be as neat and or skilled as Robin but I have built literally dozens of decks especially living in Qld Australia for the last 22 years.

    Top video Robin - like all your others, very informative. I’ve got the subframe built for my 45m2 deck using 6x2s on 300mm centres and an array of 36 x 750mm SIP ground screws. We have really stony ground here so even with a 1m x 25mm pilot drill on the big hammer drill I had to cut some of the screws down with a grinder once they bottomed out. Tapes next and then laying the boards. I’m going for the 150mm bullnose picture frame around the outside so put in a triple joist at the perpendicular ends to hold the double row of concealed starter clips. Champagne colour for me and as I design all my structures in AutoCAD there should be no ripping of the last boards. The frame is good to 2mm tolerance against the string lines and laser level…

    • @ukconstruction
      @ukconstruction  Год назад

      sounds awesome!!! I would love to be able to design in Auto cad!!

    • @orb3442
      @orb3442 Год назад

      You can. You just need to get a license for your laptop and learn from online tutorials on YT - just like we learn carpentry from your videos. It’s not difficult, you just need a bit of patience and to spend some time.
      I’m an electronics & software engineer ’to trade’ (35 years of it) but I give all trades a good crack.
      With CAD, I get a cutting list for almost everything apart from closing cuts. I also use this to estimate my purchasing. For example, with this deck project I worked out that I needed 58 x 4.8m carcassing Timbers and 62 deck boards. There will be very little left over…

    Brilliant job, quite the picture! Having done some repairs on a composite decks, first off you really do need the support structure to have the proper spacing or everything will sag. Secondly be super certain about how you manage the water flow, runoff, gaps etc, because these boards will wick moisture into to your structure like nothing else. Third the varieties I've seen can warp pretty badly when there are large temp/moisture differences, I would definitely use more than enough clips to hold it all down. Getting a board out after several years is doable, but with all the accumulated crud and the boards having gotten warped, I ended up having to pick up a whole area in order to fix it. Still, very doable but replacing an individual board is not super feasible.
