I love that you call it ‘bed head’! In the US, we refer to how messy our hair looks in the morning after sleeping as our ‘bed head’ but I see your video title has the term ‘head board’ which is the same here. You are so brave to make your own. Wonderful job! Thank you for sharing.
I have a headboard that had a faux leather inset. Sadly, the previous owner taped the price on it when they were selling it at their yardsale and the tape pulled off visable holes in the faux leather finish when it was removed. I tried using leather dye, but that didn't really work. So, I took the inset out (which was a chore and a half) and recovered it with a blanket. Once the inset was put back into the frame, it now looks like a really soft fabric inset.
The 8th is My birthday and I'm getting vintage bed sheets and pillows I'm very excited! I loove the results of your bed!!! I also love how you kept saying we :)
I absolutely love it! Your James is so sweet and funny. His joke about a 1950's housewife not cleaning! 😂 I agree with possibly doing a room make over, or at least new paint to showcase your gorgeous headboard.
It wasn't one pillow it was two pillows with the blanket spread and tucked over and under. My aunt Fran used to make her bed like that till she died . God rest her soul.
Being a child of the 50s, many a time I made a bed that looked like the Mad Men bed. The bedspread was long enough to cover the two sleeping pillows, making the top look like a very long pillow. Wasn't until the late 60s that I noticed a tendency on some relatives' part to cover the bed with pillows of all kinds, which have nowhere to be when the bed is in use. To this day, I hate throw pillows and pillow shams... Anyway, your headboard is absolutely lovely. Thanks for sharing.
You done excellent job and I love your new bedroom Bixby I'm a bit spread. I love that one, and yes, the wall color does not match good job, love it.❤❤
I want to make a headboard just like this. I have a camel back couch that I will put on my paper to trace the top shape. In the US we have pegboard that has evenly spaced holes that are intended for hooks to hang tools or pots/pans or whatever on. I’m planning on using pegboard for the backer board so I can skip your step of measuring for button placement. I loved watching you do this and you have me the courage to give it a try. I love watching your channel, I also love Dick Van Dyke.
Just found your channel this weekend -love it!!! Hubby & I have been binge-watching, especially your cooking videos. I am feeling so inspired to try many of the recipes! Thank you for all you do, including inspiring my now 60 year old self! May God continue to bless all that you do!❤
This turned out so nicely, I love your craftsmanship, although the bloopers this time were especially funny; I couldn't stop laughing! The Dick Van Dyke Show is a favourite of mine as well!
Lol thats awesome I made one also 20 years ago It was great ! Felt good to be able to make your own also Looks hood and yes need to change up decor a bit..love the video
I always look forward to your videos! I especially love your makeover videos. It's fun to the room transform from its previous state to a beautiful space. If you do makeover your bedroom, I know it'll turn out amazing like the rest of your house did. Can't wait for your next video!!
This idea of yours turned out absolutely amazing girlfriend, keep coming up with these ideas!! I also don't want to forget to pass along a big Thank You to James for helping you with the big stuff😊😊
Wow ! you aren't afraid to try anything! It turned out lovely.I am betting the next video will be about painting, making curtains etc.You are lucky that James is such a willing helper.
I love the care you take in choosing pieces for your home. You really craft each room not just decorate it. I also love how you thrift things or make them when you can. Also I LOVE Dick van Dyke
It looks SO good! Im obsessed with anything mid century modern. If you ever have to make another one...make your life easier. Use peg board instead of plywood. The holes are already spaced out. You can also get buttons made especially for covering with fabric. Like the ones you see on clothes. Then use a long needle and thread through the front and tie off in the back. Using the holes as a guide. Pull tighter and the tuft is deeper. Can't wait to see another makeover of nans house!
That is awesome. We just got a new bed and it always seems to be missing something. I figured I need to add a bed headboard. Thank you for the inspiration ❤
Great concept to re-create the headboard from Mad Men and wow it looks perfect! So much skill and creativity. At the beginning I couldn't figure out how you were going to do the tufting and the buttons, so it was interesting to see that part especially. Anyway, beautiful work!
It would really be neat to see an entire room makeover! I feel like periodically it's just nice to kind of move furniture around, spring clean and decorate. What a great looking headboard I think it was worth the struggle!🎉
I so admire your confidence and ability and determination Sage! And I love how supportive and helpful James is. My hubby wouldn't be so patient lol. The headboard looks beautiful! One piece of advice I'd give you is to lay your pillows flat when you make the bed so the headboard isn't so covered up by them and is the centerpiece of the bed. It's too beautiful to be hidden behind pillows! And all your hard work deserves to shine. 😊
Just some 5 years ago, I finally purchased a bed with a headboard. It was not planned, as these beds tend to be more expensive, tho I was looking to replace my old bed. And there she was…. My kind of color, headboard and ON SALE! Honestly, headboards are so wonderful. Especially for people who enjoy reading in bed
The headboard came out beautifully, Sage. I love Donna Reed and Dick Van Dyke. I watch them every year. The episode you showed was when the deli owner hand delivers their lunches because he has a thing for Sally.
I don't think there is anything you can't do when you set your mind to do it. I love watching your videos and listening to your calm voice as you explain what you are doing. Beautiful job.
I love the old school Aussie ingenuity in this video! Who needs a work bench when you have a garden bed sleeper! 💪🏻 Gosh! You would have had lots of tea breaks sewing all those buttons. Keep up the good work Paige ( and humble assistant James).
Love the new headboard. Excellent team project. I didn't own a comforter/duvet with pillow shams until 1992 (I was 29 years old). Prior to 1992, I used bedspreads, and the pillows were “tucked” under the bedspread. I still use a chenille bedspread on the bed that was my grandmother’s, and tuck my pillows 😊.
Always Crafty Sage.I do remember these still there in the 70s,but disappeared in the 80s.I rember when my brother got married in 1981 floor model tv was still a statement piece in the living room. That looks very professional.
You are one brilliant DIY creator. You can do & make anything with handyman James. You are gorgeous & just love your videos. Best channel on RUclips by far! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Sage, your videos are so inspirational, I love how, when you set your mind to something, you find a way to get it done. Looking forward to your next video. 😊
Gorgeous! My grandmother showed me how to make a proper bed. She always did the pillows under the spread, looked like a sausage. Her house was filled with vintage :)
Isn't it wonderful, not hitting your head against bare wood anymore? We switched from wood to a padded bed frame and it was completely worth it. Be proud of yourselves. Every time you see yoir bed, it's something you made yourselves and just by it's existence, it's a lovely memory to build on..
I’m so happy your headboard turned out well! Believe it or not, you weren’t far off from how a professional upholsterer would have tufted the “bed head” - the measurements for button placement would be made on the plywood itself, and holes drilled through. Then the covered buttons (ones with a “shank”) would be threaded with string, both ends put through the eye of a long upholstery needle (sometimes called a doll needle) and pierced through to the other side. You begin tufting from the center and work outwards. This method is great because it allows you to adjust the depth of your tufting to your preference. Finally, the string ends are stapled to the back of the plywood - and you can cover the back if you choose. This method of tufting is extremely secure - so if you find yourself with popped tufts or dropped buttons, you could choose to repair them as the pros do!
That is absolutely adorable! Very impressive! Nothing looks so good as button tufts! As a miniaturist (this is a hard-won hint,) when gluing, a drop of super glue on top of your fabric glue will allow it to set up superfast.
My daughter bought a headboard already padded and covered in white muslim. Over the years she has changed the cover fabric as the color and decor of her bedroom changed. I commend you for doing the entire project yourself. It turned out beautufully.
You and James make a great team, the finished headboard looks very glamorous, maybe one time you could do a show and tell, about your beautiful bedding, bedspreads, covers etc.
Looks lovely. I've also seen where you can add wood for legs so it sits on the floor instead of hanging on the wall. Either way...Good job! If you don't want to redo the whole room you could bring in some blue in things like curtains, pictures, vases...
You did an absolutely beautiful job on the headboard. It looks very expensive and elegant as well. I think I know where you're going with the style of your bedroom and it is really going to be gorgeous!
Finally got to finish video, headboard looks terrific!! If you want the big single pillow look, just get a bedspread and if you want contrast, etc some throw pillows. Looks great!!!
I love that you call it ‘bed head’! In the US, we refer to how messy our hair looks in the morning after sleeping as our ‘bed head’ but I see your video title has the term ‘head board’ which is the same here. You are so brave to make your own. Wonderful job! Thank you for sharing.
😂, I was about to post this, too.
Yep - Sage’s “bed heads” - the new aqua velvet one, and the one on the mornings when she fails to roll her hair the night before!!! 👩🏻🦰😂
This term is in Australia too ;)
Bed head/headboard/head of the bed.
I like it bed head. I can get use to this term 😂
Love how James is so on board with the whole thing. 😅
Sage: James, can you...
James: Right, I'm on it Love.❤
I'm very lucky! 🥰
This is how my husband is with me. It’s so lovely to have someone so supportive and willing to help you.
@kytrvlnurse my Dad, was that way with my Mom.
I wish my husband and I were so in sync. We have to work harder at it. 🙂
@@kytrvlnurse LOL Mine too.😂
i had no idea australians call headboards bed heads. that’s so cute!
I know right! 😁
Both names are inter changable in Australia.
I agree!!! I may change it to match
Such a fun detail 😍
Never met a person doing such new difficult things so easily. You are strong character and so charming at the same time. Real woman!
I know I’ve said it before but I love watching your videos. You are such a breath of fresh air in today’s world!😊
Aw thank you so much! ☺️
I totally agree 😍
My goodness, so many talents (and such patience)!

I agree 😍 it's all in the details

Happy early birthday!!! 💕🎉
@@SageLilleyman Thank you!!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday sis! (she is my sister fyi hehe)
I giggled every time you said “bed head”. In 🇺🇸, a bed head is the messy hair you have when you wake up. 😂
I absolutely love it! Your James is so sweet and funny. His joke about a 1950's housewife not cleaning! 😂 I agree with possibly doing a room make over, or at least new paint to showcase your gorgeous headboard.
Yeah! Love me some Sage Lilleyman! ❤️
Thanks Sage ....We love your channel....Yaaaa Sage.
SAGE! Now I want to make one, and I am NOT crafty! LOL
So cute watching you. Love the moment the headboard slid into the two latches. I thought you were about to squeal! Lovely. Congrats.

Gosh! It's so prety. Great job. Over came fear too.😊
The single pillow with the blanket wrapped up over is how I grew up in the '70 and '80 making my bed 😊 love this so much
Боже я так рад вашему каждому видео , вы для меня находка на ютубе и мне кажется вы единственный блогер у которого есть эстетика 50-x
I am already looking forward to the bedroom makeover vid 🤗🤗🤗
The headboard is gorgeous Sage! You did a wonderful job, as always!
Love you Sage!!!
Well done!!! When I saw those small plastic buttons I was saying NO NO you need to have covered buttons and Voila!! You did it.....beautiful
Boy, did I click fast. The headboard looks great and the whole bed looks romantic.

I can recommend her 1950s Spanish Company Rice. It's quite tasty! Filling, too.
She is such a lovely woman. I am 78 and lived in the Era she lives.
"You're so strong" was really one of the sweetest things I've heard 😍
Well done! 👍🏻 The end result is beautiful and a pretty soft colour.😊 You work very good as a team! 🛋
That's what I though, lovely 😍

Amazing job Sage love it please do a bedroom make over your make over videos color great here in the states we call it a head board 😊😊
Your excitement for the new headboard is so precious. So happy for you! :D
In reality a bedskirt was used to keep dust from collecting under the bed.😊
Oh I didn’t know that !
I love how the tufts organically create those mid century starbursts. I’m in love 🥰
Yay! I just LOVE your channel! You’re the absolute sweetest young lady. I can’t wait for the next one. ❤

Hi Sage and James, The Tufted Headboard turned out great you both did an Awesome Job. Love the color Blue you chose.😃

Yes, it came out great. You’re right a more monochromatic scheme, with hints of yellow or orange would look nice with the color chosen.
Sage - That headboard is gorgeous. What a lot of work. It turned out perfectly. Have a wonderful day. Blessings - Judith 🎵🎭

I love the way that turned out ! You are really talented and you have the patience of a saint to sit and see all those buttons.
It looked amazing when finished
I have tears in my eyes. I’m so happy it worked out in the end. Looks lush!!
