“Good morning fellow Imperial Citizens, the Ordo Xenos has come for a routine... God Emperor, it's worse than we feared! Summon the Deathwatch, suffer not the Xenos coffee makers to live!"
I know when they do they get wrecked cuase they view melee as beneath them. boy were they wrong to assume that. they have to fight in melee anyway cause 1 the nids have so many numbers and have latterly no fear that they can eat up the tau ammo real fast and still have plenty of number left to throw at them again though try to get them in close quarters combat aka urban areas.
Of course the Tau look like the good guys. Because when they were created, they WERE good guys! GW kinda forgot to give their closets the required skeletons, and added them after the fact. The result, I'd say, is even more disturbing than if they were designed appropriately 'grey' from the get-go.
Tanall That's because you went through what an in universe gue'la would go through. Their good and evil sides were shown in layers. I don't think they meant to do this, but it seems cool now that it has happened
so... here's what i don't get... just factoring in the hive cities and how horrid they are and inquisition and sterilization camps by the inquisition and such... is the imperium actually that much better than the Tau?
@@nigen no. absolutely not. even if life is more oppressive under the tau, and i don't agree with op that it is, the quality of life in the tau empire is so much higher than it is in the imperium, it doesn't take much convincing. look at how Aun'Va became the grand ethereal. he took 10 years... slowly did all this subtle stuff... and then when the time was right, a dozen imperials worlds were like "fuck it, the imperium is terrible" oh and as for the religious conversion angle, you can make the people believe something like "the emperor wants to reform the imperium to the golden age, and the tau are the method he created to do it." people WILL believe this if you say it enough. heck, forget the coffee makers and mattresses. you know what would make people happy? "say, do you hate how you have to live in a bubble and if you go outside of said bubble without a mask the pollution will cause your lungs to melt? yeah? we do to and we can fix that shit."
@@keithsvenson568 I mean from what I read on the Tua, they DO build their world sustainibily to what the worlds can take, unlike the hive worlds and forge worlds.
think of how chaos will fuck them later. Sure they are blanks for now but how long will it take for cults start spreating after they discover sorcery. Or they will be destroyed from top down or just killed by bloodthirsters(they no melee)
Hmm i dont think so. The main point of the warp is corruption. Think about it. The only reason why chaos has not corrupted the tau is because they are really young as far as alien races goes. The warp mutates changes and eventually corrupts everything that is exposed for long enough. Why do i say that now? Well chaos can corrupt even more complex A.I. hell even some necrons but that is VERY rare. So what is stopping tau from corruption? The answer is the fate in the common good. To them its like a religion. And once the tau looses fate in the ethereals they inevitably become open to corruption . After all just because people loose fate in a religion that does not mean they become more rational people in most cases they became even more irrational.

"Really, i find the Tau interesting due to how much thought has gone into how they function and do shit, and how they reason it all away. I also find the parallels with reality to be pants-shittingly scary." look up the boxer rebellion and opium wars... they jsut ripped off the british colonization methods in asia and gave them to the tau
@@nigen I'd say ripoff is a bit harsh, but they did take a lot of inspiration from it. I'm no history nut but I doubt the british are the only ones to use such tactics through the ages
The Heretek, is it really so inaccurate? Or is the lore just inconsistent? I remember reading somewhere, that the Tau were originally intent to be the "softer and lighter" faction, but not much else.
The Great Azal Now? Henry Kissinger has been doing this for a long time. Why do you think the US fund rebels, back dictators and Islamic theocracies to overthrow secular democratic governments like Chile and 1950 Iran?
While I disagree with some of your assessments and laugh at some of your confusions, I love the way you think and I condone the way your brain works. Thank you for being on youtube. Your video on Tuska is how I introduce many to Warhammer 40k.
Everything will be fine and dandy for the Tau until 200 years passes and some Imperial buerocrat notices that a few dozens worlds neighboring a xeno empire has not paid their taxes.
So a bit of interesting points that have come up in recent novels: not everything is permissible under the greater good. War of Secrets shows Tau commanders disgusted by their auxiliaries who created a warp entity. However they cannot openly purge the auxiliaries without severe repercussions from Etheral Council so they strike a deal with Dark Angels. The Dark Angels purge the auxiliaries and the Tau purge a chaos tainted Fortress Monastery
The ways of the Tau are very "progressive". And this, kids is why you want to be an Ork in Warhammer 40k. You do what you want and you live for yourself (for the most part).
As an Ork you wouldn't care. There is also the chance of you coming back to life (especially if you have a Mad Dok) even if you sustained brain injury.
I wonder if the question of how Tau could show up at exactly the best possible moment to save Kroot despite having slowest possible FTL and who had redirected that Ork ship that endangered the Kroot in the first place would be raised. As well as why supplies gifted to starving citizens of worlds Imperium forgot about, carry the same markings as supplies that were supposed to be carried by Imperial convoys to those very worlds before they were destroyed by pirates? Hmm...
It's a mix of communist and a militant Tibetan Buddhism. Funnily enough the Dalai Lama was actually pro communist and worked with Mao willingly for a time but he also advocated non violence.
The imperial navy should start to raid the tau empire. Small battlefleets made with fast escorts and light cruisers, destroying trade ships, small space ports, asteroid mining operations, etc. Tau ships are 3 times slower in warp travel, so if the battlefleets just keep moving and are smart, there shouldn't be looses. If successful, this harassment campaign would really harm the tau (they have fewer starships), and this would show their weakness to the humans under their control, who might start revolts. FFS, a dauntless could easily just drop some virus bombs on random worlds and truly fuck the tau. They wouldn't be able to retaliate without getting then obliterated by the force of the imperial navy, and it wouldn't require to many resources.
ah ship for ship tau ships are often better. plus the tau can replace their ships faster then the imperium which often takes hundreds of years for one ship
Hundreds of years is for battleships and grand cruisers. Light cruisers and escorts take much more smaller time periods. And tau ships might be somewhat better, but they are still slower, and the idea is to destroy economic resources and not engage in combat. The tau empire has very few starships, and even less warships, and this would be a good way to keep it so.
slow between systems not slow in system. the tau ships are often the equal or better then imperial ships in terms of weapons and armor. also unlike the imperials who often lose entire fleets in the warp the tau never lose a ship in the warp. it doesn't really help if you are on average five times faster in warp when you often arrive centuries later then expected or get attacked by demons or arrive elsewhere.
Wasn't the Imperial Truth the Emperor himself decreed not very similar to the "Greater Good" in mentality? Before anyone shouts out HERESY, the Imperial Truth hasn't been really practiced since his entombment on the Golden Throne thanks to the Book of Logar and his heretic Ecclesiarchy
well the emperor's plans to make a secular state kind of failed and he miscalculated on various things of human nature especially faith and underestimated what chaos can truly do and payed the price for it. 1d4chan.org/wiki/God-Emperor_of_Mankind look in the section titled his goals and flaws it is there is where the emperor went wrong when it came to the imperial truth etc.
Let's be honest, EVERYONE in 40K believes they're the hottest shit since ghost peppers. The Tau are hardly unique in their head-up-their-own-ass galaxy conquering aspirations. They are unique in the fact they at the very least tolerate non-Tau.
Have the tau ever considered having the planets they subvert keep up their imperial tribute? That's the only reason the imperium figures out something is wrong.
Tau are not as fool-fool as you think. Many times the great victory of Skavendom was undermined by idiot warlords and their stupid underlings. If noble Veek got hold of this mind control and set tinker-rats to vastly improve their design, the surface-world would be mine-mine!
Tacos are man-thing tick-droppings! I would rather eat Black Corn!!! Furry Stalker nose is weak-meat! Veek is true-true to Skaven cause and Horned Rat!
Sorry to say this Vermin, but I do believe I may have killed your God, I believe the locals called him the "Hell-Rat Behemoth". Sooooooo... Is the Crusade of Pestilence over or~?
Look G'uillal, everything the light touches is our devine right. What about that shadowy place That's the imperium of man. You must never go there. But that's the entire night sky. Did I stutter?
Looking at the one on the top left it looks like they split the cadian helm and added the back of a fire warrior helm to it...maybe. But that transition is so smooth I'm not even sure that's what happened. The thighs though are definitely from fire warrior models, so definitely a squad of fire warriors got sacrificed to put these together. It's gotta be expensive to put a squad of these dudes together.
god I thought that the tau were a shining light of hope in the galaxy, but now they seem just as evil as the imperium, especially when you said they turned everyone else's lives to hell
Is this not just fan fiction? The first ever mention of the evil Tau that restrict humans was in the Soulstorm campaign ending. And this is the lore where 100 Bane blades were lost by the IG. There was no "evil Stalinist" Tau in the early codex or the following story fluff for years. Seeing how Tau indoctrinate other alien racers it seems unfitting the Tau fluff to only hate and restrict humans but not Kroot or Vespid. This seems counter to the ideas of spreading the Tau empire by killing off none of their alien allies except humans because we cant have Tau be good guys but secretly evil aliens. Unless this was a message sponsored by agents of The Holy Orders of the Emperor's Inquisition in which case it is right and proper.
except the early tau codexs mentioned several races absorbed by the tau that are now extinct. the tau now wholly own those planets. these races died of disease after meeting the tau
as for vespid those helmets given by the tau are hinted as being mind control devices. the kroot the tau see best to leave somewhat wild since it is better to have the kroot work as mercs then try to convert them as other races
It was Dark Crusade Tau Ending that revealed that the human population had fallen to 1% in a few generation with the imperium thinking that the Tau were carrying out a sterilization campaign in accordance with the greater good.
we also get a taste of how the Tau do things in some Ciaphas cain novels and hints in the various codexes that some "partner races" disappeared. and ofc you also need to look at how the idea works ege everything and anything is ok as long as it is for "the greater good"
Which is why i love them. Where other use force to win tau use diplomacy, spying and maniuplation. There my 4 favorite race for that reason(1: eldar, 2: necrons 3: tyranids, 4: tau.)
for anyone curious about this, who wants to know more, there is a great account of this kind of tau activity, in the Caiaphas Cain novel, "For The Emperor"
I thought the only reason that the "small crusade" launched against the Tau didn't reduce them to so much blueberry jam was the force had to be called away to help deal with a Tyranid hive fleet. Or has this been retconed?
Well let's see... I am murdered if I do horrible things or refuse to worship the Emperor under Imperial rule. Under Tau rule as long as you understand and accept the Greater Good you can worship whatever, the most horrible thing they did to rowdy humans was sterilize them, they get to have sex without worry. XD
@@purplefreedom1631 ohh, but this isn't a choice between freedom and slavery. It's a choice of who your slave masters are. And the TAU quite clearly beat most imperial rulers when it comes to practicaly everything. I mean, they even care about your contribution to the empire enough to try to evacuate you!
You know you have spent too much time on the wrong side of the internet when a simple video about space blueberries sounds like "jews, white replacement, illuminati, communism, globalism etc etc." 😂
Tbh, given the other options, the Tau are still the 'good guys of 40K', no matter how you put it. So I made my choice: (x) become brainwashed space communist ( ) become Chaos Daemonculaba ( ) Become Servitor ( ) get dissolved in acid by the Tyranids/ atomized by Necrons ( ) get tortured for two eternities by Dark Eldar
Just accept it, the Tau are better Gue'la. “I used to be a like them [humans], in fact one of the strongest skeptics! But then I saw, the Greater Good isn’t just a insignificant alien belief. The imperium’s methods of violence will never achieve dominion of the galaxy. Violence solves only the direst of situations. Try punching your girlfriend in the face to keep her faithful for example!” Tal Hunter, a former Imperial lieutenant. Now part of the Tau Empire.
One could say often rightly that the greatest atrocities in history have been comitted in service of "the greater good". That's what makes the T'au so compelling as an antagonist group. Their philosophy of "the greater good" provokes a visceral reaction.
the Tau sounds a little bit like a communist regime... I guess it's time to deploy the 40k version of Liberty Prime if the Tau are the "good guys" then I'm a very bad boy ;)
"the Tau sounds a little bit like a communist regime..." some PLEASE explain this part... like serious everyone CALLS them communists and never explains why. they strike me more as British colonialists and the methods they used in asia.
The whole point is that they aren't. They are at best 3rd place, behind the Imperium and Eldar. It's just that their PUBLIC face is that of "closest to good guys."
tyranids are faaaar faaaaaaaaar nicer than tau the tau are way more cruel and evil and they will never care about you even as much as tyranids wants you for food They just lie about it...... like vote for me i will give you free healthcare, college, housing, food, handjobs, hookers whatever you want just vote for meee.....
You are actually right, the Tyranids don't care about your status or rank, they just want to welcome you into the their warm and cozy bossoms...... or was that stomaches?
Tau are the good guys. They have multiple races in their armies. Imperium has sanctioned human mutants at best. Eldar have Eldar who are Eldar who like Eldar to be Eldar, who do Eldar like they're Eldar, who do Eldar like they're Eldar. Always should be someone you really looooove.
I'd still live in the Tau Empire if I had to live in the 40k universe. It's not too different from being a middle class American without the illusion you can do better, only with a guaranteed job for life, great healthcare and a comfortable life if lacking in any options at all. I've got no illusions about the Tau but if I woke up one day in 40k as me I'd go there.
Just a question here, but don't the Space Marines conduct recruiting operations on these frontier worlds on occasion,and/or make them homeworlds for splinter groups? As I imagine they'd take a very dim view if they discovered any of this by any means available to them..
tau does not actual absorb much ecpecialy humans dead within a generation or 2 after takeover..... imperium doesnt lie about it.... you can try to fight back easy choice for us humans...dead or alive....
Matthew Chirino I cant imagine the imperium of man the way it is making it to 50k. They are losing technology and not producing new tech. A race that does not change or advance is wiped out. The empire is likely to fall followed by the next ruler of the Galaxy to be the Tau. It happened many times in warhammer that the domiance changes hands.
If I had to choose a place to live in 40k I'd probably go for the blueberries. From the way I look at it, as just an ordinary citizen you have the best living standars out of every other big race that actually tolerates humans, I mean what can we choose from? The Imperium, where 70%+ of the populus is either slowly dying in the slums, has a miserable life working in a factory, or is just a god damn peasant(granted the policies of the Imperium may not be as strict as the blueberries, but what can ya do with your freedom if you are stuck being a noname?). We also have some chaos(err... no thanks.), Orks(there is just a small chance of being enslaved for a little while and preserved for next week's dinner). There may be some other alien races or human colonies maybe even a space EU(thats actually done right) out there that has better living standars, but for the time being I think I will gladly take some blueberry overlords over being eaten, exterminated or just living a hard and miserable life, oh and also the tentacles and the other "extraordinary" stuff, no... thanks I'm fine... really.
+Anomus Anonymous they dont realy tolerate humans they just kill them all over a generation or two and sometimes possibly keep some to help takeover the next target. with 99.9999999% certainty would NOT! live under tau in the imperium trillions of humans live..... easy choice to me
Then again, as I said that is my preferred choice over any other bigger race, in my opinion the "greater good" is still a better policy than "myself above everything else". Granted the blueberries won't tolerate you speaking ill of their deeds, but the same goes for the Imperium, if you speak against someone with any degree of influence you are either too insignificant to move a muscle for or you get crushed. From what I've heard if you do your part without doubitng them you can live a fulfilling life, you may not have kids, and your bloodline may die out with you, but you don't have to live out on the streets at the very least. Still waiting for that space EU though, where are my multiple races actually coexisting under the same galactic confederacy/union at
*sigh* I wonder at times, would it be too convenient just to have an empire thats not based upon a weird religion, or doesn't want to rule above all, or exterminate everything? I guess it would be too convenient wouldn't it? If you want something to be done right you must do it yourself...
At least you can retire in the Tau empire as a lowly infantrymen, plus your life is already decided for you in the imperium, unless you;re the one in a trillion who is a noble.
Just imagnie what would happen if the Tau would accidentaly encounter the "other" races, by for example landing on a maiden world, digging a bit to deep and waking up some machines or a chaos incursion on a "conquered" imerial world. My favorite scenario wold be starting an old mars computer virus and being slaughterd by their own tech.
One example is when Farsight found the Dawn Blade and had to fight chaos demons. Ka'mais had the nids invade and then a necron force which was hidden on the nearby moon woke up and wiped out the nids. The Tau welcomed the necrons who then proceded to harvest the tau world. Vigos had a webway portal spewed xenos and chaos worshippers that attacked the Tau. Probably there is more but those are examples i can recall.
Something I didn't think of the first time I watched this video: What happens to the tithe? A planet not paying it's taxes tends to be one of the few things that can get a relatively quick response from the Impirium.
There was a short story in Space Marine Battles: Damocles I think. The tale of one Janeth Korling or J'Ten as he became. Good story, the other short stories ranged from meh to NOPE. Like a Water Caste not believing in the greater good levels of NOPE.
guess you never read the story of the penal legion that worked with the tau water caste to assinate a tau commander. the water caste oftne deals with aliens and hence is not propagandized like the other castes. so unless an etheral is with them they often don't believe in the greater good like the other castes do.
Love the little hints to our reality's certain authoritarians using similar tactics, sad that we humans are not an inter-planetary society yet, it would make it less likely.

I can’t help but say it a second time and only notice once it’s happened, hmmmmm please don’t inform the inquisition officer over there haha
The Farsight Enclave exists for a reason you know.
so... here's what i don't get... just factoring in the hive cities and how horrid they are and inquisition and sterilization camps by the inquisition and such... is the imperium actually that much better than the Tau?
@@nigen no. absolutely not. even if life is more oppressive under the tau, and i don't agree with op that it is, the quality of life in the tau empire is so much higher than it is in the imperium, it doesn't take much convincing.
look at how Aun'Va became the grand ethereal. he took 10 years... slowly did all this subtle stuff... and then when the time was right, a dozen imperials worlds were like "fuck it, the imperium is terrible"

the blue berry conquest, like a anime protagonist they talk too much when they should be fighting.
And they don't even use melee. Pure Heresy!
think of how chaos will fuck them later.
They can't even melee!

The Great Azal
Look up tau lore yourself, you'll find Arch is wrong on so many points.
The Heretek
Yeah, he's very biased on the Tau.
Loquacious Lobster Lapidary then the neck beards complained that they weren't grimbdark enough and gw decided to darken them.

Imagine the Tau trying to take an orcworld that way, amusing.
Happened the first time but they learned now Orcs are shot on site
There is the chance of being brutally beaten to death, as a starter
I'd take the chance
As an Ork you wouldn't care. There is also the chance of you coming back to life (especially if you have a Mad Dok) even if you sustained brain injury.

I wonder if the question of how Tau could show up at exactly the best possible moment to save Kroot despite having slowest possible FTL and who had redirected that Ork ship that endangered the Kroot in the first place would be raised. As well as why supplies gifted to starving citizens of worlds Imperium forgot about, carry the same markings as supplies that were supposed to be carried by Imperial convoys to those very worlds before they were destroyed by pirates? Hmm...
So basicly politics?
sounds like the tau did those attacks to minipulate events not going to work.

the the emperor would be on board with tau in terms of religion obliteration.
Mike A that is assuming the Admirals in command don't start getting uppity and start making mistakes and well it the Impierum.
ah ship for ship tau ships are often better. plus the tau can replace their ships faster then the imperium which often takes hundreds of years for one ship
Hundreds of years is for battleships and grand cruisers. Light cruisers and escorts take much more smaller time periods. And tau ships might be somewhat better, but they are still slower, and the idea is to destroy economic resources and not engage in combat. The tau empire has very few starships, and even less warships, and this would be a good way to keep it so.
slow between systems not slow in system. the tau ships are often the equal or better then imperial ships in terms of weapons and armor. also unlike the imperials who often lose entire fleets in the warp the tau never lose a ship in the warp. it doesn't really help if you are on average five times faster in warp when you often arrive centuries later then expected or get attacked by demons or arrive elsewhere.
toomanyaccounts again, the game here is to run before any tau forces can arrive. And those are extreme cases of horrible warp jumps.

The tau sure as hell know how to make a good sales pitch and how to run an empire efficently.
Have the tau ever considered having the planets they subvert keep up their imperial tribute? That's the only reason the imperium figures out something is wrong.

It was Dark Crusade Tau Ending that revealed that the human population had fallen to 1% in a few generation with the imperium thinking that the Tau were carrying out a sterilization campaign in accordance with the greater good.
we also get a taste of how the Tau do things in some Ciaphas cain novels and hints in the various codexes that some "partner races" disappeared. and ofc you also need to look at how the idea works ege everything and anything is ok as long as it is for "the greater good"
Arch Warhammer if i remember right, the first Caine Novel was set on a planet partly overtaken by the Tau
So the Tau just pick up the crumbs the Imperium leave behind?

I used to believe the Tau were the best in warhammer 40k. I have since repented that sin and now see the emperor's light
So basically what I'm hearing is the Tau are almost a direct mirror of certain chosenites
Even though this video is 3 years old some of this subversion process's sound awfully familiar.
That feel when Arch makes the Tau feel and sound like SJWs.
I thought the only reason that the "small crusade" launched against the Tau didn't reduce them to so much blueberry jam was the force had to be called away to help deal with a Tyranid hive fleet. Or has this been retconed?
it was however the imperium doesn't want to launch another of a succificent size because of the drain of resources

There may be some other alien races or human colonies maybe even a space EU(thats actually done right) out there that has better living standars, but for the time being I think I will gladly take some blueberry overlords over being eaten, exterminated or just living a hard and miserable life, oh and also the tentacles and the other "extraordinary" stuff, no... thanks I'm fine... really.

they dont realy tolerate humans they just kill them all over a generation or two and sometimes possibly keep some to help takeover the next target.
with 99.9999999% certainty would NOT! live under tau
in the imperium trillions of humans live.....
easy choice to me
Then again, as I said that is my preferred choice over any other bigger race, in my opinion the "greater good" is still a better policy than "myself above everything else".

One example is when Farsight found the Dawn Blade and had to fight chaos demons. They can, just incredibly badly.
what are the relations between the eldar and the tau?
