    Elden Ring certainly has it's issues. But to call it a bad game is just the worst take imaginable, lol.

    • @themrlace
      @themrlace 3 месяца назад +70

      The issue is them interpreting 8 as bad.
      8/10 is a very good rating and Elden Ring fits there quitr nicely (imo).
      People's perception of rating is just really screwed. A 5/10 or lower is, in most people's minds, basically a 1/10. I don't know why and what caused this, but you can easily notice this trend by looking at reviews from the last half decade or so.

      The reason why it’s so low is that when ER first launched it had a ton of performance issues on PC.
      Because I have the special ability to remember things I preordered the deluxe PS5 edition since FROM have never been great at PC optimisation.
      While I think ER is great, it really started to adopt some unfortunate design trends some of the previous FROM games had while casting away their more unique elements.
      It’s unfortunate that the only unique voice people seem to see in FROM is their difficulty and now they’ve hammered in on that whole casting aside a lot of their more interesting design trends.

      @@chazzergamer yeah I remember defeating the Tree Sentinel after a hundred tries due to input lag. It was frustrating especially whenever it had a slither of health. I had pre planned every move and had to predict their potential attack. It was a pain.

    The only thing I think I could ever complain about in Elden Ring is probably the quest structure. Discovering new people during your travels is cool, but too many of the quests are intertwined and advancing on one makes you accidentally skip others without any indication. If they wanted to do an Open World rpg then really should have invested in more of the trapping of other open world rpgs like a journal/quest log just to let you know what you've started and a general direction on what you need to do next. I don't need any hand holding quest marker on the map, but not having to follow some wiki page just to know where some NPC wants me to go would be nice.

      particularly with the multi-boss encounters, like it was baffling how they went from abyss watchers/sister fried egg/demon prince in ds3 to dual gargs/dual crucible knights (before aggro fix) or just pretty much any multi-enemy boss in elden ring
      even the solo boss fights in elden ring i typically found to be kinda tedious and less interactive than many of the bosses in ds3, where those in e.r often felt more of a waiting game than a fluid dance against many of the goated bosses in ds3... like dancer of the boreal valley lol

Lore is what took place beforehand meanwhile the story of something is what is actually happening in the present. Yes, souls games and Elden Ring have an incredible amount of lore but if someone can genuinely tell me that the story of these games are something revolutionary then they are conflating the two. @@scott--1629 Ok, so let me get this straight. If we are to take a stance of how most people experience these games which is watch the opening cutscene and be placed into the world with little to no guidance. The majority of people don't even read item descriptions or understand the point of the game besides the intrinsic motivation to explore and fight bosses. Your excuse of learning the lore through the storytelling itself is a moot point since what is the storytelling exactly? There are barely any cutscenes explaining anything and npc dialogue is vague and can easily be missed on a first playthrough (Arguably the most important one). Next you have environmental storytelling which is a dime a dozen from this developer since seeing a dilapidated world with ruins everywhere and hostile residents is definitely the most original concept of all time. Especially if this is the 6th time that this has been done. Now all you have left are the item descriptions that vaguely link things together, however wanting to read them means that I have to care about whatever "story" is in the game to make wonder about the "lore" from previous events in the world. Telling somebody to look at a wiki to learn what happened in the game that they are currently playing is not a good argument on how the storytelling in this game is good. I am saying this as a genuine fan of these games but if VaatiVidya didn't exist half souls community wouldn't have known have the lore in these games to begin with.
