    LYRICS
    All these relief-givers
The needle sure revs in the red
    Chemicals like hugs from inside
they feel like my best friend
You think me a coward but I am a warrior
With many voices in my head
When I looked around and I reached out
    I saw no alternative
God rest, God rest our souls
And this substance is the only comfort I know
He's been pushing for a while
Can we cut this man some slack
Let him lie down, let him lie down
We are a country desperate for the embryonic
I'm cold and I'm hungry and
I yearn for a hand on my forehead
You think it's a walk in the park and it's easy
"She's got it as good as it gets"
This misunderstanding's the line between living
    or being the walking dead
And God rest, please rest our souls
And the more I take, the less comfort I know
She's been pushing for a while
Can we cut this woman slack
Let her lie down, let her lie down
The more that you hurl at me
The more I will curl up in my bed
    where's the humanity?
Aren't we all hovering around the same end?
Door number 1, 2 and 3 have been promises
that aren't real enough to be kept
You wish me a speedy recovery
But when you turn I plumb the depths
And God rest, God please rest our souls
This is the surest exit I have known
We've been hurting for a while
Can we cut ourselves some slack
Let us lie down, let us lie down
Let us lie down, let me lie down

Oh, I love "That I Would Be Good" too! That song, as well as some others of hers,
help me to know that there are people who care and who understand. I believe that her fans love Alanis because what she shares in her songs are feelings and thoughts that everybody has. She is talented, wise, and empathetic.

I've connected with Alanis for too long now to imagine myself without her words being a part of me. I don't know how she manages to get inside me over and over and give me the words to finally express how I feel. I'm broken but I'm trying to heal and that requires rest... Love and rest and pauses to all of you!

I hear you. I’ve been an addict for 43 years. Recovered now, but… are we ever, really? Every single breath is a struggle. The only thing keeping me here are my cats. I took responsibility for them, now I owe them a beautiful life. When they are naturally gone someday, it will be my time too. And, my God, I will be ready!

I just heard her sing this at Lisa Presley’s funeral. It was absolutely beautiful; almost 20 years since jagged little pill and she still doesn’t cease to amaze me.
I have suffered with mental illness all my life. And my heart goes out to all the families left behind by those that believed there was no other way out. God Bless you all. ❤

I have struggled with mental illnesses, self harm, and suicidal thoughts. I have put myself and the people around me through so many emotions. And last night I went to her concert with my mom. I sang, I danced, I smiled my ass off, and I got very emotional- in a good way. Afterwards my mom got in the car with me and she said she was relieved to finally see me truly happy. I cried as soon as I got home.

Such Pretty Forks In The Road shook me upon its release. It’s the mental health record of 2020. I love how more songs keep slowly being released in 2021 extending this era. Rest is absolutely a climax for sure. What an incredible song. Thank you for hearing the fans and releasing it. The world needed to hear this. This past week I have been playing Smiling nonstop as I had a lot of personal things happen. I needed time to just rest this week more than ever. I usually just push through, which is not always healthy. This song really hits my heart right now. I just cry as I feel validated. This entire era has hit in ways I never expected. Absolutely incredible! ✨
