There were some great points in this video, but as an avid NS main, you missed an important part of hover: airtstrafing. You either forgot to talk about it or didn't realize it was a mechanic because it was in your drydock clip, but airstrafing is very powerful, allowing you to achieve max hover speed with a fully charged railgun and no dashes consumed. By changing your movement direction constantly, you will reach the hover speed cap and allow yourself to turn at max speed. It is incredibly useful both for faster hover peeks or simply to move faster with a charged railgun shot/while charging. An example of when to use it this way would be when fighting an aggressive Ronin. Also, please aim your flight core at the feet :) It will not target the titan themselves, only the map, so a large amount of missiles will simply go around the target if you do not aim at their feet.

I've recently started playing Northstar myself using Viper Thrusters and something I find super useful is fully charging a shot, dashing and then immediately activating hover during the dash. Gives you much better maneuverability during the hover instead of being restricted by the slower aiming movement speed.

I started with the Northstar when I just bought Titanfall 2. Good to know that you can adjust your height for the Flight Core. Especially in maps like Complex it will come in handy. I shall give it a try.

i dont know if many people know this but northstars core is actully the most powerfull core in the game if all missles land (which never ever happens) you can kill a full health scorch

NS has a potential damage output of 16k damage, while ronin has ~28k damage and superior mobility during core and a very strong defensive. NS, has no defensive and is very visable(most of the time). NS easily has the second best in the game. But definitely not the best
Mism22 We could all get really pedantic here and bring up damage potential versus kill potential. If we did that, Ronin in all honesty has a pretty trashy core. Hes so easily negated just by melee mashing him. Nstar can at most kill maybe a couple of weak titans. In overall kill potential, a legion and scorch are likely the best. Smart core will obviously target everything and tear all targets down, and flame core is the hardest core to avoid, if all titans were weakened, it would blast all of them to hell in a second. This isn't a great argument to start debating once realism sets in.
Hover is a great way to move away from Ronin and Scortch with vipers on, just dash backwards and hit it mid dash, then use the time they're chasing you to charge up a few quick shots.
Just subbed to you, your videos are very informative and detailed and you definitely deserve more of a following. I'm curious about what Titan Kit people have been using for Northstar. Personally I always went with turbo engine, since you generally wanna keep her as far away as possible from you targets, and an extra dash helps you gtfo if they start advancing on you. But after watching this video, it seems like Viper Thrust might be a much more versatile kit to run. Thoughts?
Thanks for the Sub! Viper thrusters is great for mobility, but I find that most of Northstar's kits are really good depending on the tactics you are playing. The enhanced optics can really help spotting pilots trying to peek you over buildings, and increasing the cluster payload has tactical utility when you need to control banks or other objectives. Double tether trap will probably help you the most in titan duels, and the penetrating shot makes you a beast at lane control because you can even shoot through your teammates without them blocking the shot, which is really useful, and doubly so for frontier defence. This is one of those choices where it comes down to personal differences in play-style I suppose. - Ascendance

I use vtol hover a little differently. I use it for a glitch called moon boots which is mainly used in speed running but it reduces your pilots gravity by 16%
RandomlyBasic Basically you hover with north star to a point where he lands while hovering then you exit the Titan. On black water canal there's one if your under the bridge and use hover to get in the bridge you get out of north star and boom less gravity
We are thinking of making a video on this actually, but as for now you just have to be careful of the arming period. It takes a moment to fire once you deploy them, so you have to place them early, not in a panic when the enemy is already on top of you. - Ascendance
Tethers work really well defensively and are good for punishing mistakes. I recommend putting them about a dash or 2 away from where your hold up incase they push. If your caught in close engagement try using electric smoke to hide the trap so they can't shoot it when they're caught giving you time to back up. Or on your flanks to buy some time (you'll hear a distinct twang) that's your que to pull back.

Secret trick if a Ronin phase dashes at you dashing backward with good timing will often kill the Ronin
Sam Reddig Gaming, if it's not a stupid Ronin, they should sword block as they phase out to stop them dying, so it doesn't really work.

You can also execute airborne Northstars when using your vtol
And use the high to drop a smoke on a dropship for that extra damage

When you hover you can fire a full change shot a cluster missile the a three charge shot
Note: You can air strafe during hover to either gain speed while charging a shot, or to manuever in otherwise impossible ways.
